Out now via the Black Pill Red Pill label is the brand new single video from Elz and the Cult, “Discipline”. The video which was directed and edited by Antre and Elz features Ki̇ki̇ Ci̇ci̇nash.

Mixing dark electronic music with pop, industrial and goth undertones, Istanbul’s Elz and the Cult first got onto many people’s radar with the 2016 released single “I Did This to Myself”. The seven track EP “Sex Macabre” was produced and mixed by Angelspit and is available now through Black Pill Red Pill.

Out today via the US label Black Pill Red Pill is the newest maxi-single from the Turkish act Elz and the Cult. The EP “Fire Meets Fire​/​Discipline” goes hand in hand with a video for the track “Fire Meets Fire” shot and directed by Elz and long-time collaborator Antresex. The video is an homage to George Bataille’s writings about erotica and la petite morte and features images of Elz and their ‘monster-under the bed’ played by Istanbul queer icon and drag artist Kiki Cicinash.

The single itself holds 2 tracks plus a remix of “Discipline” by Qual.

The Istanbul based act mixes dark electronic music with pop, industrial and goth undertones and first entered the spotlight with the 2016 released single “I Did This to Myself”. After their 3rd studio album, 2020’s “Bloodline”, Elz and the Cult released their first ever EP, “Sex Macabre”.

Background/Info: In a rather short lapse of time Cold Transmission Music has released an impressive number of qualitative bands and productions. The German label based near Frankfurt am Main released this label compilation as a double album featuring a total of twenty seven bands. The label is devoted to post-punk, cold-wave, shoegaze, new-wave and dark-wave.

Artists: SYZYGYX, ELZ And The Cult, Kiss Of The Whip, Hallows, Bedless Bones, La Mécanique, Dilk, Iamnoone, Icy Men, White Mansion, Iamtheshadow, Clone Culture, Control Room, The Gathering, Palais Ideal, Mark E Moon, Mary, The Bluebeard’s Castle, The Secret French Postcards, Vastron Vulture, Silent Runners, Pusu Button Press, Carlo Onda, Rosi, Monographic, Paradise Cove, Reconverb.

Content: “Spotlight” covers a rather diversified-, but related number of music styles. The main source of inspiration brings us the dark hours of the 80s music. This is an opportunity to discover young and upcoming talents in the genre while some other artists are composing a more contemporary- and personal sound, but still connected with new-wave music.

The album has a lot to offer and will therefore appeal to a wider audience; from minimal-electronics to pure post-punk and dark/cold-wave, “Spotlight” will for sure ravish all 80s lovers.

+ + + : A label compilation always is a kind of sonic window to discover the real potential and scope of a record company. I already discovered some talented artists on the German label (SYZYGYX, Mark E Moon, Bedless Bones ao), but this compilation also is an opportunity to discover some bands you maybe didn’t get the chance to hear before. The album’s diversity also is one of the main strengths. I especially want to mention the great opening, minimal-electro/wave cut by SYZYGYX and the more EBM-wave work of Bedless Bones –both confirming their potential. From the first disc I also recommend the powerful song by Elz And The Cult and the guitar-wave by Dilk. At the second disc I discovered great songs by Mark E Moon (also confirming to be one of the newest dark-wave sensations), the speed of Mary, the melancholia exposed by Push button Press and the brilliant cold-wave from Paradise Cove. Notice by the way that several songs are previously unreleased.

– – – : I don’t have any real minus points about this compilation, which perfectly illustrates the welfare of talented bands of this label.

Conclusion: I can only, but highly recommend buying this compilation, which will not disappoint you giving you the chance to discover a very international label roster!

“Bloodline” is the second studio album by the Istanbul based industrial goth band Elz And The Cult. The album consists of 12 tracks mixing industrial music with dark wave and pop elements and is produced and mixed by Taner Yucel and mastered by Gorkem Karabudak. The album is available through all digital platforms, on CD by Cold Transmission Music, Germany and on vinyl by Young and Cold Records. A special limited-edition cassette will follow via Domuz Records.

The Istanbul based band first popped up on our radar via the 2016 single “I Did This to Myself”. In December 2018, the band released 2 different versions of their second studio album “Psychodrama” digitally and on CD & Cassette. The album even had its own special zine dedicated to it on the underground art scene in Turkey.

Background/Info: German label Cold Transmission Music moves on with the “Zeitgeist”-series unleashing the ninth volume. This is a new opportunity to discover some of the upcoming talents from the electro-underground and cold-wave scene.

Artists: SYZYGYX, La Mécanique, Elz And The Cult, Crying Vessel, Antipole, Aprilmen, Lobby, Glaring, Egoprisme, Sexy Suicide ao.

Content: There are less label bands featured at this compilation and that’s probably because “Zeitgeist Vol.9” sounds more electro-minimal like while the label is more focused on cold-wave music. Most of the bands are getting their inspiration from the 80s although you’ll notice very personal influences on top. The compilation sounds pretty vintage like and progressively evolves from minimal-electronics to a last part featuring cold-wave driven formations.

+ + + : It’s a new opportunity to discover less familiar- and totally unknown projects active in the shadow of bigger names. But the compilation again brings us real cool surprises. I especially like the minimal-electro touch emerging from bands such as Milliken Chamber, Glaring, Mater Suspiria Vision and SYZYGYX. From the cold-wave front I especially recommend La Mécanique, Sexy Suicide and Lobby (which in the meantime seems to have split up). This compilation features 31 bands!

– – – : I don’t see real minus points here, but it’s a pity some of the featured bands don’t have more recognition!

Conclusion: Among the endless list of samplers, the “Zeitgeist”-series seems to be one of the most interesting ones for bringing us a truly underground spirit by a nice selection of less famous, but talented artists.

Best bands: Glaring, Sexy Suicide, So What?, Milliken Chamber, Lobby, Egoprisme, Hanging Freud.
