The UK-based post-punk / dark pop act debdepan release a new single, “Habit”, via Silent Kid Records, introducing their second EP “Lovers & Others”, due November 2025. The track is available now, with an official video accompanying the track.

“Habit” blends industrial-leaning percussion and grunge-edged elements. “This song is about feeling like you’re not good enough for someone and having to play it cool to win their affection,” the duo says about the track.

The song was largely written during an artist-in-residence collaboration at Westway Lab (Guimarães, Portugal) with Portuguese electronic artist/DJ Phaser (Miguel Loureiro). Credits on the release list Chelsea Tolhurst, Grace Bontoft, and Miguel Loureiro as writers, Mikey Collins (engineering), James Minas (production), and George Abrehart (drums).

The band will be playing London (Strongroom Bar, Sep 17, 2025) and Hamburg (Hafenklang, Nov 11, 2025) in support of the new material.

About debdepan

debdepan formed in March 2022 when Chelsea Tolhurst and Grace Bontoft began writing together during lockdown and established the project in Margate, England.

Early momentum came via Pie Factory Music’s Emerging Artists programme, which led to an initial release opportunity with the Wantsum Music? label. The duo subsequently signed publishing and label deals with Archangelo Music.

Their debut EP “OMEN” arrived on July 25, 2023 (Bamala Newtown), led by the track “The Goat”. In 2025, debdepan return with “Habit” on Silent Kid Records and the follow-up EP “Lovers & Others” slated for November 2025, accompanied by UK and German dates.

The UK based dark pop act debdepan has just released release their new three-song EP, “Omen”, via Bamala Newtown run by Daryl Bamonte.

The UK-based duo debdepan consists of Chelsea Tolhurst (vocals & guitar) and Grace Bontoft (bass & backing vocals), who create dark, melodic music inspired by Warpaint, Marika Hackman, The Cure, PJ Harvey, and The Big Moon. Note that Chelsea Tolhurst is not related to Lol Tolhurst, the former drummer and keyboardist of The Cure.

Taken from this 3-track EP is the song “The Goat” for which a video has now been made availabel.

The duo utilised the lockdown period to compose songs, forming the band in March 2022 and promptly performing their first shows. Shortly after, the duo signed a publishing and label deal with Archangelo Music, owned by Daryl Bamonte.

Out now is “Darkest Hour” by debdepan. The single comes accompanied by a video which you check out below. The single is out on Wantsum Music?, a record label based in Ramsgate (UK). The label was formed last year by the local youth charity Pie Factory Music in order to offer a platform to young musicians from South East Kent.

Musically our first impression was that the single sounds like a stripped down Cranberries. And it certainly begs for more.

debdepan consists of Chelsea Tolhurst and Grace Bontoft and although both started writing songs in 2020 they only formed a duo in March 2022. The duo explain the story behind their single as follows: “‘Darkest Hour’ is open for interpretation; but the origin of the song is personal, it’s a reflection on an experience, that needed to be captured musically in order to move through it. The song is intended to captivate listeners, to move them from one place emotionally to another – to journey to the quiet within the loud.”
