The female-fronted symphonic darkwave act Angelic Foe has a new lyric video out for the track “Avnas”. The track is taken from their album “Amulets and Charms”, out via WormHoleDeath Records.

The album’s nine tracks are exploring themes of mysticism, mythology, and esotericism. The music is a blend of the enchanting vocals by Annmari Thim Hermansson and Fredrik Hermansson’s orchestral arrangements, enriched with classical instrumentation and rock and metal elements. The album also includes contributions from additional musicians: percussions by Mattias Borgh, viola by Björn Jönsson, and guitars by Jhonny Göransson, with mixing by Léo Margarit and mastering by Magnus Devo Andersson.

About Angelic Foe

The neoclassical and darkwave band Angelic Foe hails from Eskilstuna, Sweden, and was founded in 2006 by vocalist and composer Annmari Thim. Known as the lead singer of Arcana from 2001 to 2014, Thim initiated Angelic Foe is particularly focusing on Jewish mysticism and demonology.

The project’s debut album, “Oppressed by the Heavens”, released in 2012, featured compositions by Thim and guitarist Cristian Ellingsen, with percussive contributions from Mattias Borgh. In 2015, Angelic Foe released “Mother of Abominations”, co-written by Thim and Samuel Lidström, with mixing and mastering by Peter Bjärgö. The third album, “An Evil of Nature,” released in 2019, marked the inclusion of Fredrik Hermansson as a permanent member. Hermansson, known for his work with Pain of Salvation, brought a background in progressive metal and classical music.

“Circles and Spheres”, the fourth album, was released in 2021, brining a blend of neoclassical music with elements from rock and metal.

In 2024, Angelic Foe signed with Wormholedeath Records and released their fifth album, “Amulets and Charms”, on December 6th 2024.

Out on 11 January (digitally and on cassette via Cut Surface & Wsmtml) is the all new Sundl album “Four”. “Four” pays homage to both the dark 1980s as well as the vibrant Viennese underground scene and includes a cover of “Mesmerism” by darkwave legends Dead Can Dance, featuring vocals by Terz Nervosa. The whole was mixed and mastered by Philipp Forthuber.

This is the 4th album for the Vienna-based solo artist following the self-titled debut (2020), “II” (2021) and “3” (2023). He has this to say about the musical evolution: “While remaining true to my signature approach of blending samples, retro sounds, guest vocals and instruments, the various elements are more distinct, each standing out in its own right.”

Just Friends and Lovers’ Lina Gärtner and Veronika Adamski contribute live instruments to several tracks, including “Oak” (vocal samples by Terz Nervosa), “How Sweet” (vocal samples by poet Linda Pastan), “Diving” (vocal samples by Lina Gärtner), and “Mesmerism” (additional arrangements by composer Andreas Karl). The lyrics for The Space are written and performed by Vienna-based Lithuanian artist Hylut.

Out already are the first two singles, “For” and “Mesmerism” feat Terz Nervosa. A 3rd video single “How Sweet” follows on January 25th.

Out 10th January 2025 via Metropolis Records is the brand new 5-track EP from the Swedish act Morlocks, “Amor, Monstra Et Horrore Profundi”. Musically the duo combines elements of industrial rock, neo- classical, darkwave and metal.

The EP follows the album “Praise The Iconoclast” released in late 2023 and two US tours in 2024, in support of KMFDM. You can already listen to the opening track, “The S.N.A.F.U. Principle v3.0” below which is also downloadable immediately to anyone pre-ordering the full EP.

Asked about the inspiration behind the song, the duo says: “Watch the world from a distance. Get angry at first, but also inspired. Take the darkest parts of it and twist them into something weird, beautiful and batshit insane – something that you could either dance to, brood in the shadows to or scream at the top of your lungs at the moon. Preferably all of the above. Everything can be turned into art, and art must hurt. Situation normal: all fucked up.”

About Morlocks

Morlocks was co-founded by group mainstay J. Strauss in Gothenburg, Sweden in the early ’90s, developing a diverse sound that ranged from guitar-based electronic rock to mediaeval tunes, to synth-pop with orchestral elements. After teaming up with current band partner Innocentius Rabiatus (aka Andreas Wandegren of goth veterans Dark Side Cowboys) in 2003 the group changed its sounds towards heavy, guitar-based industrial rock with symphonic parts. This led to the 2011 release of an album “The Outlaw of Fives”, as well as the recruitment of bass player/vocalist Lamashtu.

They also befriended Sascha Konietzko (Käpt’n K) from the Hamburg-based industrial rock outfit KMFDM, with Morlocks providing remixes and appearing on the KMFDM album “KUNST”. Käpt’n returned the favour with a guest vocal on “Praise The Iconoclast”, which also included vocals from dark ambient electro artist Karin My and black metal musician Heljarmadr of Grá/Dark Funeral.
