After releasing their comeback EP “Koma:Redux” a few months ago, Cold In May return with a brand new EP on the fine label SkyQode titled “Isolation Songs”. “Isolation Songs” is a 3-track EP with brand new tracks written shortly after the surprise release of “Koma:Redux” in early March. The new songs retain all that trademark feel and sound that made Cold In May an interesting act in the first place.

The band was started in 2006 by music producer Ars Nikonov, who is also known for many other projects like Fury Weekend, Diversant:13, FLA Vector, etc. With 3 well-received albums and hits like “Halo of the Gone” – which raked over a million views on YouTube – Cold In May went on a prolonged hiatus for four long years in 2016. But they are back.

Out via the fine label SkyQode is the “Koma:Redux” EP, the long-awaited new release from darkwave / synthpop band Cold In May and this after four years of total silence.

“Koma:Redux” is a present to all Cold In May fans who have kept supporting the band during their silent years. Out now via SkyQode is “Villain Royale”, a new EP by Diversant:13 (now branded as Divrsnt13). The band led by Archr (aka Ars Nikonov, the music producer known for Cold In May, Fury Weekend, Tribal A.D. and numerous other projects) explores new genre territories on this new release.

The new EP, “Villain Royale” is a 5-track bass-heavy industrial offering which blends together the electro-industrial sound of “Ode To Inhumanity”, Divrsnt13’s 2016 album, with crunchy modern midtempo bass music. The release features 4 original tracks as well as a remix from the Moscow-based music producer Oleg Xaler aka Cutoff:Sky.

Unity One have announced the release date for their highly anticipated debut album “Awakening”. The album features 12 tracks and is to be released on April 27th by SkyQode, the home of Mental Discipline, Cold In May, Synapsyche, to name just a few bands.

Unity One is the futurepop/synthpop project formed by musician Mike-E (Russia) and vocalist Rush (Moldova) who have diverse musical backgrounds. But you’ll clearly recognise the duo’s shared love for such bands as VNV Nation, Neuroticfish and Colony 5. We have been following this band for a while now and so should you.

The band already released a single for the track “Infrared” which spent several weeks in the Top 10 of the Deutsche Alternative Charts. In 2016, they also released the single, “Tomorrow” which equally got very good feedback from the DJs.

The band’s debut album comes after a string of festival appearances including Resistanz (UK), Children of the night (UA) and Synthetic Snow (RU), as well as concerts supporting Covenant, Assemblage 23, SITD, and Solar Fake.

Their upcoming debut “Awakening” is clearly drawing inspiration from synthpop, EBM, futurepop and modern club music and will please many who want something else then the harsh electro which is flooding the scene these days.

Genre/Influences: Electro-rock, pop-rock, electro-wave.

Background/Info: Hailing from Belarus, Cold In May has already released 2 previous albums and a few EP’s. The 4 head band released their 3^rd full length “Холодный Мир” (translated as “The Cold World”) a few months ago.

Content: “The Cold War” is a typical pop inspired release with a poignant and omnipresent sad mood hanging over the songs. One of the main particularities of the songs is that they’re all sung in Russian.

The music reveals a quite noticeable electro-rock orientation, the songs clearly empowered by guitar while the electronic passages inject a delicious, but sad taste of melancholia. A few songs have been reinforced by cool melodic tunes, which polished the pop element.

+ + + : Cold In May definitely not sound like an average electro-pop formation although they’re using familiar elements. There’s a perfect balance between guitar and electronics and I especially like the beautiful melancholic passages adding this sensitive and fragile touch to the work. The digipak format of the album is a real bonus.

– – – : The language is not exactly the best way to catch the attention of an international audience. This album is also missing a potential hit!

Conclusion: “The Cold War” sounds like an album mainly created for the Russian scene. If you like sad sounding pop music you definitely have to listen to Cold In May’s new album.

The Russian synthpop / futurepop project Mental Discipline entered the scene with their debut album “Constellation” featuring collaborations with the vocalists from bands like Frozen Plasma, !Distain, Culture Kultür, Endanger, Pulcher Femina, Spektralized, and many others. The debut was followed by two digital-only EPs, “Fall 2 Pieces” (2013) and “Butterfly” (2014), featuring both new tracks and remixes of the tracks from the debut album.

Finally out via SkyQode now (you can order the release here) is a special CD (“Precious Paradise”) which consists of the tracks from both digital EPs, as well as a couple of previously unreleased tracks. This limited CD edition comes in a 6-panel digipak and contains 13 tracks in all. Among them are the collaborations with Swedish singer Tess Fries as well as remixes from such artists as Assemblage 23, Mind.In.A.Box, [:SITD:], and more.

“Precious Paradise” acts as a warm-up for the band’s upcoming second album “Past Forward” due later this year.

Out on March 8 via SkyQode is a brand new 5-track digital EP “Точка Невозврата [Point Of No Return]” by Cold In May. It follows the band’s third full-length album “Холодный Мир [The Cold World]” released in October 2015 also via SkyQode. The new EP features 5 previously unreleased tracks.

The mix of synth-driven melodies, dominant guitars, and the vocals should make that this release will appeal to fans of Diary Of Dreams, Zeraphine, Lord Of The Lost and the like.
