Horror & Opera, brainchild of Siberian-born classically trained operatic singer, multi-instrumentalist, experimental electronic musician, and multi-disciplinary mixed-media artist, Alia Synesthesia, premieres the track “Incantation”, launching the new immersive multimedia release, “The Lost Opera“.

An immersive, multimedia storytelling event, “The Lost Opera” by Horror & Opera is a ‘Haunted Box’ project, combining audio drama and an operatic composition, “Mortuus Messis”, with both physical artifacts and digital media. “The Lost Opera” tells the story of a mysterious opera known as “Mortuus Messis”, thought to have been lost forever, and the research of the passionate PhD student determined to uncover its secrets.

Project mastermind, Alia Synesthesia of Horror & Opera, says: “There’s something captivating about uncovering lost histories, hidden stories, and forgotten art. For the past year, I’ve been immersed in half composition, half research project that taps into a myriad of exciting for me themes, blends fact and fiction, myth and reality. Today, I’m excited to share the culmination of that journey: The Lost Opera Project – an exploration into the hauntingly beautiful and enigmatic world of Mortuus Messis, an opera that was performed just once in 1916 in Blackwater, Massachusetts, before vanishing into obscurity.”

The Lost Opera ‘Haunted Box’ is made available in both fully virtual (digital) and physical forms. The digital version includes audio downloads of both the opera itself, and the protagonist’s dissertation tapes, along with digital artifacts. The physical version of the box includes everything available in digital form, as well as physical cassette tapes, photographs, letters, and other ephemera.

The Lost Opera by Horror & Opera is composed, performed, produced, mixed and mastered by Siberian-born artist Alia Synesthesia; a classically-trained operatic singer, multi-instrumentalist, experimental electronic musician, and multi-disciplinary mixed-media artist, now based in Toronto, Canada.

Alia was born in Yakutsk (Sakha Republic), where she began her formal musical education at the age of 6. Alia started making electronic music in 2011, inspired and influenced by acts like Skinny Puppy, Depeche Mode, Chelsea Wolfe, and others.

Her music blends elements from classical music to musique concrète; from blackmetal to progressive rock; from synthpop to darkwave; from industrial to dark ambience.

Washington DC-based darkwave gothic rock band The Neuro Farm has just dropped their latest single, “Panic”. The track delves into a childhood experience of fever-induced delirium and is set to be included in their forthcoming album, slated for a 2024 release.

The band brings a blend of vocal harmonies, sweeping violin tunes, pulsating rhythm guitars, and atmospheric soundscapes. Their sound however is influenced by a range of artists, including Joy Division, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sigur Ros, Chelsea Wolfe, Portishead, and Rammstein.

The single “Panic” features performances by Rebekah Feng on violin and vocals, Brian Wolff on vocals and guitar, Tim Phillips on synths and programming, and DreamrD on drums and percussion. The track was penned by Brian Wolff and Rebekah Feng, recorded at The Neuro Farm’s own studio, mixed by Brian Wolff, and mastered by Rob Early.

Adult has launched a remix of the Bestial Mouths song “Unshivered”. A video was equally made and can be seen below. The song is included in Bestial Mouths’ remix album “Thousandneedles” that features collaborations with SRSQ, Ash Code, Void Vision, Light Asylum, and more and which dropped earlier this month.

“Thousandneedles” will be available on vinyl and cassette versions this August via Fill-Lex Records and Soil Records.

In a reaction Adult says: “We got this remix request in the summer from Bestial Mouths and it was just the thing we needed to get us back in the studio again. It wasn’t like looking at a blank canvas and it felt more like collaboration in a way, which was much needed during such an isolating time.”

The track’s visual counterpart offers a psychological portrait of a person clawing their way to meaning. Director Jamie Parkhurst, who has previously worked with Los Angeles post-punk outfit, Death Bells, and experimental electronic artist Trevor powers, was helped by producer Yelena Akopian, stylists and designers Bradley Soileau and Elliott Evan, photographer Renee Parkhurst, DP Connor Ellman, and camera operator Alex Van Putten. The video was edited by editing is by Alex Nicolaou (Drab Majesty).

From their inception in 2009, the core root of Bestial Mouths has combined Lynette Cerezo’s voice with several genre influences across the spectrum of goth, industrial, post-punk, new wave, noise, metal, and other underground sounds using live acoustic and electronic drums and analog synthesizers. Since 2018, Bestial Mouths has been the sole project of Cerezo.

Out now is a brand new video, “Void”, by the Nancy (FR) based act -ii- (aka Two Eyes). The video announces the band’s upcoming album “Extinction” which will be released on March 10th and it’s promosing something really enjoyable as you will hear and see.

“Void” is the first track from this album and the accompanying video explores films like “The Neon Demon” by Nicolas Winding Refn and the experiments of Henri-Georges Clouzot (and his unfinished work “L’Enfer”).

After a first EP (“Lighthouse”, 2018) -ii- started touring in France, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Italy to promote their EP. Two years later the band released “The Rings of Saturn” single showcasing a more industrial sound.

Shortly after the release of this single, the world found itself confined due to COVID. The group took advantage of this period of enforced seclusion to release two single (“Crowns” and “Summer in the Wait”) plus some remixes (Chelsea Wolfe, Health, Daughters) and started the production on their first full length “Extinction”.

The inventors of Death pop, Industrial pop and Dark pop from Los Angeles are back with a new single called ‘Impulse Control’ that can be ordered here. The new videoclip was shot by singer/musician Rizz and Jesse Draxler (Nine Inch Nails, Chelsea Wolfe, the Black Queen) in Little Tokyo just before the corona-crisis broke out.

Dark, doomy, dreamy, cinematic and mysterious is the style of VOWWS. Those elements can be seen again in the new clip. The band states: “It’s a unique time for humanity, the machine has stopped and we’re all in solitary having to deal with ourselves. There’s a lot of anxiety that we can’t really run from. Like everyone else, we’re processing a huge shock and experiencing things we’ve never dealt with before. We’re grateful to have an outlet for some of the angst, it feels like the best way we can work through something this intense is to capture the feeling. A lot of the song came out of nowhere, straight from the void probably.”

VOWWS earlier collaborated with Deftones singer Chino Moreno, New Wave icon Gary Numan, Danny Lohner (Renhölder) of Nine Inch Nails/Marilyn Manson and toured with The Cult in the US. Their first album ‘The Great Sun’ was co-produced by Kevin McMahon (Swans). Last year the band performed in Paris, London and Tokyo on fashion events and recently Rizz and Matt toured the US and Europe as support for Poppy.

“Hiss Spun” is the upcoming fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Chelsea Wolfe, to be released on September 22, 2017, by Sargent House. The album features guitar contributions by Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens of the Stone Age, as well as a guest appearance by Aaron Turner of Isis. The material was recorded in Salem, Massachusetts, at the studio of Converge guitarist, Kurt Ballou. Ballou also produced the album.

34-year old Chelsea Wolfe has earned a lot of praise for her releases, “The Grime and the Glow” (2010) and “Apokalypsis” (2011), which blended elements of gothic rock and folk music, as well as her following albums, “Pain Is Beauty” (2013) and “Abyss” (2015), in which Wolfe incorporated elements of neofolk, electronic and metal. Her music has been featured in promotional material for the television series “Game of Thrones” and “Fear the Walking Dead” as well as in “How to Get Away with Murder”.

Small but no so innocent detail, she is of Norwegian and German descent, the best musical genes have always been present there :).
