Cathedral In Flames release single ‘Push The Fire’

The Prague goth rock band Cathedral In Flames have released the digital single “Push The Fire” via Musicraft, accompanied by a new video on YouTube. The single is the first new material since the 2024 album “Count To Nine”.

“Push The Fire” is a metaphorical story about picking up women, using vampire imagery on the surface and promises of eternal love underneath. The band describe it as “vampire kitsch” built around “promises of eternal love, right up to and beyond the grave”, with the narrative shifting into anger and escalating bloodshed as the seduction fails.

The initial ideas formed during spring walks around South Bohemian fish ponds, with melting ice, fog and flocks of crows. Musically, “Push The Fire” is a direct goth rock’n’roll track. The single was produced and mixed by Brett Carruthers of The Birthday Massacre.

About Cathedral In Flames

Cathedral In Flames are a gothic rock band based in Prague, Czech Republic, built around vocalist and lyricist Phil Lee Fall and composer/multi-instrumentalist Gatsby, with Ambra von Bernstein on vocals, Billac deVille on guitar and, since 2026, drummer Barney Estrada.

Their debut EP “Children Of The Blackest Hole” was first released at the end of 2019, later appearing on vinyl in 2020 via Universal Sounds Group. In May 2021, the band issued their first full-length album “Hang Me High & Bury Me Deep”.

From 2020 onward, Cathedral In Flames released a string of singles and EPs: “Desperado” (2020), “The Weeping Song” (April 2022), “Not Another Vampire Song” (December 2022), “Release The Pain” (April 2023), “Rebel Yell” (Billy Idol cover, October 2023), “Pale Rider” (February 2024), the companion EP “Pale Rider RMXD” (June 2024) and “The Gate (The Path) John Fryer Remix” (November 2025), alongside their two albums “Hang Me High & Bury Me Deep” (2021) and “Count To Nine” (2024).

In April 2022, the band also covered Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ “The Weeping Song” to raise funds for Ukraine.

The Prague-based gothic rock band Cathedral In Flames has released their third album “Count to Nine”, offering a blend of dark and gothic influences. Known for their fusion of traditional gothic rock with a “cowboy” flair, the band delves into contemporary psychological issues, Lovecraftian mysticism, addictions, and magical sexual practices.

The title itself is symbolic, referring to the mystical number 9, representing fulfillment, closure, and the connection between different dimensions and stages of life.

The material was mixed by producer John Fryer, who has worked with influential bands like Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode.

Lead vocalist Phil Lee Fall says that the album represents their deepest creative journey yet, taking nearly three years to complete. His bandmate Gatsby emphasized that each track reflects the mood in which it was written, a catharsis for the emotions stirred by modern life’s confusion and darkness.

Count to Nine is available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify and Bandcamp, and includes the standout single “Dreaming in the Witch House”, for which they’ve also released a music video.

Cathedral In Flames present brand new album ‘Count To Nine’

The new album from Prague gothic cowboys, Cathedral In Flames titled “Count To Nine”, is out now on the Musicraft label. It’s the follow-up to the 2021 released “Hang Me High And Bury Me Deep”. On this album the two key members, Phil Lee Fall and Gatsby, are accompanied by the voice of Ambra von Bernstein and guitarist Billac deVille.

Thematically the album covers contemporary psychological problems and addictions, mysticism and magical sexual practices. The nine tracks were mixed by John Fryer (Fields of the Nephilim, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Paradise Lost, Cradle Of Filth and more).

Vocalist Phil Lee Fall says this of the album: “On Count To Nine we tried to cross boundaries. We ventured further and deeper than ever before. Musically, lyrically and sonically. It took us almost three years, but we are extremely happy with the result. Dark, mystical and monumental gothic rock for the 21st century.”

Gatsby adds: “Each track is heavily influenced by the mood and situations in which it was created. That’s why I make music, to get the emotion out. So the fact that it’s dark is probably natural. In a way, it’s a catharsis of the disgust and confusion we live in.”

Cathedral In Flames release goth rock ‘Pale Rider’ single

Prague-based gothic rock band Cathedral In Flames has released a new single titled “Pale Rider”. The song pays homage to classic western films and composer Ennio Morricone. It narrates a dark story involving an occult battle with cancer, with production by John Freyer.

The single’s release is accompanied by a horror-themed music video set in a graveyard, featuring characters inspired by Cthulhu mythology and a reference to Clint Eastwood through the use of a replica of his hat. The band members involved in the video are Ambra, Phil, Gatsby, and Billac, with Gatsby portraying a grave desperado character.

Vocalist and lyricist Phil Lee Fall says of the record, “We’ve always loved and used the western aspects in our take on gothic rock and we’ve taken it to the max in Pale Rider. Cowboy guitars, screaming cowboys, Clint Eastwood and Lovecraftian poetics. Total country overkill. And yet it fires like a very black devils hog on all cylinders.”

And Gatsby, author of the music, adds: “I love westerns, Ennio Morricone, and I put all that into “Pale Rider.” I wrote a darkly gothic cowboy shuffle with an eerily demonic chorus. The mix was an uphill battle, with John having to dip into his reserves of patience a lot to be satisfied, but the result is worth it! After all, it is the title track of the forthcoming album.”

Cathedral In Flames covers Billy Idol classic ‘Rebel Yell’

The Prague-based gothic rock band, Cathedral In Flames is back with a cover of Billy Idol’s classic, “Rebel Yell”.

In their version of the song, Cathedral In Flames toyed with tempos, added strings and flirted with blast-beats for the first time in their history. The track was produced by John Fryer and comes hand in hand with a comic book video.

Singer Phil Lee Fall says, “The songs were basically made to order. And we had a lot of arguments over it, we couldn’t figure it out for a long time, but when Gatsby threw in the tempo changes, everything clicked. And John added the blast beats symbolically at the very end.”

And Gatsby adds, “I’ve never liked this song, so I approached it in the end in the style of seeing if something interesting could be made out of a thousand times stale little ditty. How it turned out, judge for yourself. I’m washing my hands!”

Czech goth rock act Cathedral In Flames present new single: ‘Release The Pain’

The Prague-based gothic rock band Cathedral In Flames presents their new single, “Release The Pain”. The track is a ballad about the contemporary unlearning of the perception of death and pain through social media.

Vocalist, Phil Lee Fall says, “When the song was written, I was having a pretty bad time. I was taking long night walks through old Prague and I realized that all the people I meet are going to die sooner or later.” And Gatsby adds: “Release The Pain” is a catharsis for our whole band. For me, there is so much emotion in this song that if it doesn’t knock you on your back, nothing will.”

The band debuted in 2019 with the EP “Children Of The Blackest Hole”. The band consists of two key members which are vocalist Phil Lee Fall and songwriter/musician Gatsby. They are joined by singer Ambra von Bernstein and guitarists Billac deVille and Mr Theorodick.

Prague’s gothic rock band Cathedral In Flames have just revealed their new single, “Not Another Vampire Song”. The single follows the release of their Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds cover of “The Weeping Song”. John Fryer (Fields of The Nephilim, Peter Murphy, Nine Inch Nails) produced the new recordings.

The lyrics of the track poke fun at typical gothic rock themes as well as stories of closed rock clubs and churches.

Phil Lee Fall explains the track: “The song is based on a memory of the nineties, when we used to travel (not only to play) around Bohemia, and after a night of drinking we would go the next morning to the only place that was open (on Saturday or Sunday) at that time, so to church. It’s also about booze, or rather about alcoholics and how after a few drinks quiet introverts turn into raging sovereign steamrollers. And how they turn into pale, hungover vampires the next day, afraid of daylight and looking in the mirror.”

Czech gothic rock act Cathedral In Flames launch album ‘Hang Me High & Bury Me Deep’

Czech gothic rock act Cathedral In Flames have an album out, “Hang Me High & Bury Me Deep”. “Hang Me High, Bury Me Deep” is available worldwide on CD and via all digital platforms. A special vinyl version in a 3D gatefold package will be released soon.

For this album Phil Lee Fall and Ambra Von Bernstein also worked with samples and guitar parts by Billac DeVille, Mr Theorodick and Gatsby, who – in addition to the obligatory bass guitar – also recorded a substantial part of the guitars and keyboards. Pianist Antonio Koczwara was also invited to record the demanding keyboard parts.

Via the 9 tracks on this album you can hear that the Prague based act were clearly influenced by the likes of Sisters Of Mercy and Fields Of The Nephilim both in terms of sound and musical ideas. You can check out “Blacktrain” below.

Background/Info: This is the second volume in the series “Dark Tunes From Czech & Slovak Caves”, which was released last year –three years after the first volume. The compilation is mainly featuring Czech artists and we get a total amount of twenty five songs.

Artists: Bratrstvo Luny, Decent Ruins, Novi Lidé, Tear, Love My Science, Stereo Songbird, Das Funus, Výsměch?, Dave Von Tenebrae, Cathedral In Flames, Epadun, Nemuer, Vespertine Soul, Schwarzprior, Mean Meme, The Opposer Divine, Projekt 203, Bolehlav, Isiolia, Project Jara-J, KIFOTH, GoLeave, Last Influence Of Brain, Skrol, Fuj Kluk.

Content: This is an interesting cocktail of very different underground music genres. From Gothic and Post-Punk to multiple artists dealing with different Electronic formats like Electro/Wave-Pop, Dark-Electro, EBM and Industrial to refined Ethereal-minded and even Ritual-driven artists, this album has a lot to offer.

+ + + : I’ve always been very enthusiast when discovering this kind of compilations; it’s an opportunity to get a better idea about underground scenes we’re not familiar with. So it also becomes an opportunity to discover new and/or unfamiliar bands. And there’s a lot to discover on this album. I was impressed by the icy Electro-Wave of Das Funus. Epadun stands for heavenly female/ethereal voices mixed with artistic violin parts. It also has something Gothic and cinematographic-like and definitely appears to be a band to keep in mind. The Ethereal inspiration comes back at Nemuer, which also deals with Ritual elements. The Opposer Divine is a more familiar name and still warrants sophisticated Electronics. Another established formation is KIFOTH dealing with an efficient Dark-Electro format. A last surprising song comes from another familiar project Skrol. They deliver a kind of old-school inspired Industrial track. I also want to say a word about the great digipak format of the CD edition, which includes an informative booklet featuring brief information about each band.

– – – : When you get twenty five artists featured at a compilation it’s quite normal you’ll always find a few less interesting cuts.

Conclusion: This is a compilation I can only, but fully support as you’ll discover some new –and maybe upcoming, talents.

Best bands: Das Funus, Epadun, Nemuer, The Opposer divine, Skrol, KIFOTH, Bratrstvo Luny, Cathedral In Flames.
