Out now and ready for Valentine is the brand new video from Metamorph, “Love in the Wreckage”. Featuring Margot Day – who was an integral part of the 80’s NYC underground music scene while fronting the legendary Goth band The Plague – the track was produced by Cleopatra recording artist Erik Gustafson (Adoration Destroyed).

Here’s what Margot Day has to say about the track: “Life in todays’ world is messy and chaotic but I am thrilled to be writing and recording music in the jungle – transmuting the worlds chaos into love. Metamorph Music has always been about change. 2021 was full of so much chaos and pain. But for me there has been a strange undercurrent of joy in the madness. I found myself transforming this emotional intensity into a spiritual awakening. Alone, but not lonely, here in the jungle, writing and creating new songs. These new lyrics and melodies are pouring in like an avalanche. It was a challenge to take on new technology and learn to program music and record my own voice and flute. But the necessity to share with you and the world made me driven to learn and grow and delve deeper than I ever have before. I am grateful to Erik Gustafson for for his musical contributions and brilliant production.”

Margot Day is a singer, flutist, songwriter, and poet who played with the band The Plague in the 80s as part of the underground music scene in New York City. Day also played flute with Slow Walk 13, a conceptual music band, in 1982. In 1987, The Plague released a self-titled album and two years later, the band broke up. Day went on to release an eponymous album in 1997 that echoed work by Yoko Ono. In 1999, she released another album, “Sacred”.

In 2010 her six-piece group mOss circle self-published a self-titled CD. By 2018, she was playing with Kurtis Knight in a duo called Metamorph. 2019 Metamorph expanded to include Anomaly on Bass, Joe Netzel on Drums and Dancers Rivqah Cas and Kitten Mapants.

Noone else but XTC’s Andy Partridge has been working with the 80s pop infused act Darling Boy (aka Alexander Gold) for the new single “Breaking Into Forever” as far as production goes.

Not all that surprising as we have seen Partridge’s credits popping up allover the place in the past few years namely in records by (and we limit to those which will interest the scene public more or less): Tricky, Blur, Thomas Dolby, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Icehouse, Primus, Sarah McLachlan, Bad Company, The Stranglers, The Mission, The Residents, and many many more.

Not sure if you will like the bubblegum pop produced here though.

On a side-note, Darling Boy refers to “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)”, a song written and performed by John Lennon. It was released on the 1980 album “Double Fantasy”, the last album by Lennon and Ono released before his death. Paul McCartney has stated this is one of his favourite songs composed by Lennon, and when he appeared on Desert Island Discs in 1982 included it as his favorite in his selection, as did Yoko Ono as the only John Lennon song in 2007. It was used as the B-side of “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” to promote the compilation album “The John Lennon Collection” in November 1982.

Music history, it never stops to amaze us doesn’t it.

“Fly” is the second album by Yoko Ono, produced by her and John Lennon, and released in 1971. The album included notable songs such as the singles “Midsummer New York” and “Mrs. Lennon”, “Hirake” aka “Open Your Box” and “Don’t Worry, Kyoko (Mummy’s Only Looking for Her Hand in the Snow)”, dedicated to Ono’s daughter Kyoko Cox.

The track “Airmale” was the soundtrack to Lennon’s film “Erection”, showing a building being erected in time lapsed photography, while “Fly” is the soundtrack to Ono’s film “Fly”. Below you can see the video for “Mind Holes” equally from the 1971 avant-garde album, “Fly”.

Note that this double vinyl LP (white vinyl on top) reissue has the following 4 bonus tracks: “Between the Takes”, “Will You Touch Me”, “The Path” and “Head Play (Medley: You/Airmale/Fly)” totalling 17 tracks for this reissue. The album was recorded around the same time as Lennon’s “Imagine”. A small detail, Ono had to re-record her vocals on “Open Your Box”, on 4 March 1971 at Abbey Road Studios, after a managing director of EMI called the lyrics “distasteful”. The song featured a line that went “Open your trousers, open your skirt, open your legs and open your thighs”. “Trousers”, “skirt”, “legs”, and “thighs” were then changed to “houses”, “church”, “lakes”, and “eyes”. Remarkably enough Lennon and Ono didn’t complain about the change of the words, and only “wanted to get the record out”.

Another interesting details is that each edition of the US, UK and Japanese albums utilized that country’s distinctive telephone ring in the track “Telephone Piece”. You can hear the 3 versions below.
