Genre/Influences: Experimental, Ambient.

Format: Digital, CD, Cassette.

Background/Info: Polish project Voices Of The Cosmos strikes back with a new work consisting of live recordings. A few cuts are known from previous studio recordings while there’s also previously unreleased material.

Content: This band reveals a true passion for astronomy which is exposed in every single details from their work. From the sound and titles to the artwork this project sounds like being part of space. They conceive sonic collages which mainly sounds like improvised but always creating the illusion of an astral dimension. Sometimes dark and icy but also totally dreamy this work is quite diversified around the main theme.

+ + + : You can only but immediately perceive the strong and omnipresent astral dimension of the work. There where Ambient pioneers have explored all different facets of this music genre, Voices Of The Cosmos transpose it into a true Experimental style. This is music for fans of sound improvisation but I’ve to admit the used sound canvas of the tracks is absolutely impressive. I’m in for the darker side of the work.

– – – : It remains a true Experimental-Ambient sound which is according to me missing a visual side -especially as this is a live recording.

Conclusion: Space remains a prolific and inspiring ground for Ambient projects and fans.

Best songs: “Geomagnetic Hiss 2”, “Pulsar PSR B0950+08”

Rate: 6½.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: “Zona Electronica” is an invitation to discover fourteen Polish -and originating from Poland, artists dealing with different Electronic genres. All tracks are exclusive pieces.

Artists: DID, Clinamen, Kompozyt, Pin Park, Aquavoice, Hubert Heathertoes, Jeff Gburek, Fischerle, Mammoth Ulthana, Ab Intra, Mike Majkowski, Voices Of The Cosmos, Kamil Kowalczyk, Joanna John.

Content: This compilation is a varied selection of Polish artists dealing with pure underground Electro. From intelligent, Minimal-Electro to mysterious Ambient atmospheres and pure Dark-Ambient to Cinematic music and finally a lot of Experimental music this album has a lot to offer.

+ + + : I like compilations revealing a majority of unknown artists. I was fascinated by the Dark-Ambient interpretation of Kompozyt, the Minimal-Electro and IDM driven cut of Pin Park and the more into Experimental sounding Fischerle.

– – – : Some artists are definitely too Experimental for my taste.

Conclusion: This is an interesting and fascinating experience revealing some hidden treasures of the Polish Electro-underground scene.

Best bands: Pin Park, Kompozyt, Fischerle, Clinamen, Voices Of The Cosmos.

Rate: 7.

Genre/Influences: Cinematographic, Experimental.

Format: Digital, Vinyl.

Background/Info: Voices Of The Cosmos is a Polish sound project set up by Rafał Iwański (X-Navi:Et) and Wojciech Zięba (Electric Uranus). They’ve been joined by astronomer Sebastian Soberski. X-Navi:Et and Electric Uranus have already released several albums together and also have this other common project. They’re using ‘the original extraterrestrial signals and sounds (pulsars, magnetospheres of planets, Sun, aurora borealis, masers) captured with radio telescopes and other radio devices’. This album features four tracks.

Content: The album is comparable to the album “Voices Of The Cosmos III” released by X-Navi:Et & Electric Uranus. You again feel embarked on an imaginary sonic travel throughout space. The songs have been progressively built up. It all happens very slowly, but astral sound effects and icy tones are joining in. The music is somewhere in between reverie and a chilling experience. Especially the last track featuring droning effects in the background is a dark experience.

+ + + : I once again got the feeling we’re listening to the experiment of sonic scientists instead of real musicians. The composition is however meticulously built up and revealing a strong visual appeal. This is an album, which needs to get a visual support to come into its own. I recommend listening to “Maser Emission”, and especially the final track “Methanol Flash” is a great listening for its more explicit icy approach.

– – – : The work is missing a true apotheosis, but remains a pleasant listening.

Conclusion: Men and musicians have been always fascinated by space and astral themes like illustrated by Voices Of The Cosmos.

Best songs: “Methanol Flash”, “Maser Emission”.

Rate: (7).

Genre/Influences: Dark-Ambient, Experimental.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: This album is the third installment between Polish projects Electric Uranus and X-Navi:Et. “Voices Of The cosmos III” was already released in 2019 and features eight tracks.

Content: The title of the work also indicates the main influences and in a way noise sources. All the tracks are featuring sounds and noises taken from radio telescopes mixed with Electronic manipulations. The result is a unique ambient format, which also has a strong Experimental appeal. Boiling sounds, sweeping effects, icy tones, monstrous noises, but also typical astral atmospheres and effects are the main essence of this work.

+ + + : I first of all want to say a word about the great, artistic artwork of this digipak, a physical format having that more than digital stuff. But you of course don’t only buy music because of the artwork. Both artists create something unique if you compare the work with classical Dark-Ambient and Cinematographic music, but it mainly reflects this album is much more than a ‘classical’ work. It all feels like resulting from sound scientists active in a sonic lab and getting different noises and radio telescope sounds accessible. They’ve put in into a molt to obtain an enjoyable and fascinating work. The global atmosphere is dark, sometimes mysterious and mainly featuring great sound treatments.

– – – : The album is missing a true apotheosis in sound although I can’t say there’s any single cut to throw away.

Conclusion: “Voices Of The Cosmos” feels like an accessible Experimental work.

Best songs: “White Dwarf Dance”, “Luna”, “Magnestospheric Chorus”.

Rate: (7).

Artist: www.facebook.com/xnaviet
