Genre/Influences: Industrial, experimental.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Stephen Ah Burroughs (known from Head Of David) is striking back with a new work of his Tunnels Of Ǡh project. It’s the fifth full length released by this project, which is always inspired or recorded with a visualized location arising in. This recording was ‘set on a half mile stretch of abandoned railway where various human transgressions have occurred’.

Content: I can’t say this album is a real conceptual work, but when you imagine the sphere recovering the place where this album has been recorded, you can only, but figure darkness. “Deathless Mind” is an appropriate title for an obscure sonic canvas. It feels like a haunting travel throughout an abandoned universe. Spoken samplings are empowering the deadly sphere of this sonic canvas while different noises and industrial sounds plus some drones are achieving the work. Notice by the way Primitive Knot and Adam Probert have been featured each on one track.

+ + +: Tunnels Of H has accomplished a truly sonic patchwork. The result has something of a perverted work inspired by the darkest side of existence. But the sonic universe of Stephen Ah Burroughs is not the kind of stuff that will get you happy, but a way to face your most evil, hidden demons. This is a world of obscurity and desolation transposed into a sonic web created by electronic manipulations and ghost-like atmospheres. I also have to say a word about the front cover of the album, which perfectly illustrates the horror behind this work.

– – – : I can’t say this is my favorite work of this project; I’m missing some poignant and more overwhelming passages.

Conclusion: There’s music to get people happy and smiling and there’s music to make you think about our existence and why we are living…

Best songs: “The Cult Is On The Move”, “Parable Of The Sower”.

Rate: (7).
