(Photo by Cecily Eno ) “Film Music 1976 – 2020” is a brand new Brian Eno release out on double vinyl / CD and download on November 13th in the UK and followed by a US release on January 22nd.

“Film Music 1976 – 2020” is the first ever collection of music from his film and television soundtrack oeuvre. Spanning five decades, this release features classic Eno compositions, lesser-known gems and seven previously unreleased tracks.

Eno’s long-standing affair with film goes all the way back to 1970 with his soundtrack to Malcolm Le Grice’s short experimental film “Berlin Horse”. In 1976 he followed this with “Sebastiane” and a long forgotten Greek b-horror film, “Land Of The Minotaur” AKA “The Devil’s Men”.

Early classic Eno film moments include “Prophecy Theme” from David Lynch’s “Dune”, “From The Beginning” from Dario Argento’s “Opera”, “Force Marker” and “Late Evening In Jersey” from Michael Mann’s “Heat”, “Under” from Ralph Bakshi’s “Cool World” and his cover of William Bell’s soul classic, “You Don’t Miss Your Water”, in Jonathan Demme’s “Married to The Mob”.

His 1978 studio album, “Music For Films” was a loose compilation of material recorded between 1975 – 1978. It was intended as a conceptual soundtrack for imaginary films and only the last track, “Final Sunset” was written for an actual film. It proved to be a fruitful project with nearly every piece on the album going on to be used in future films.

Eno again explored the above approach with U2 as passengers on their collaboration album, “Original Soundtracks 1”. Four of the tracks from the album were used in films prior to release: “Beach Sequence” and “Your Blue Room” in Michelangelo Antonioni’s “Beyond the Clouds”, “Miss Sarajevo” in an eponymous documentary about a beauty pageant held in the midst of besieged ‘93 Sarajevo, and “One Minute Warning” in Mamoru Oshii’s Japanese animation classic, “Ghost in the Shell”. Another track, “Always Forever Now” later appeared in “Heat”.

In the mid-seventies Eno began a collaboration with British film maker Derek Jarman, who initially commissioned Eno to record “Final Sunset” for the closing scene to his first feature film, “Sebastiane”. The collaboration continued all the way through until Jarman’s untimely death in 1994.

“An Ending (Ascent)” and “Deep Blue Day” are taken from “Apollo: Atmosphere & Soundtracks”, Eno’s collaboration with his brother Roger and Daniel Lanois. The music was originally written for Al Reinert’s documentary of the Apollo moon landing, “For All Mankind” although since then “An Ending (Ascent)” has taken on a life of its own and is now remembered just as much from Steven Soderbergh’s “Traffic”, Danny Boyle’s “28 Days Later” and Miguel Arteta’s “Beatriz at Dinner”. It even made an appearance in the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony. And then there’s “Deep Blue Day”, which will forever be identified with Ewan McGregor’s legendary toilet dive in “Trainspotting”.

Besides this and more filmwork, Eno has also scored extensively for television, including all three series of award-winning UK crime drama “Top Boy” and Danny Boyle’s “Mr Wroe’s Virgins”. Other television credits include his scores to BBC Natural World’s “Hammerhead”, “Francis Bacon’s Arena”, Neil Gaiman’s futuristic urban series, “Neverwhere”, and Stewart Brand’s BBC mini-series “How Buildings Learn”.

Background/Info: Hailing from Chile, Casa De Orates is driven by the creative spirit of Manuel Knwell. The band has already released several productions and is clearly inspired by dark-ambient music.

Content: The title of the album clearly indicates what the music is all about. The music is dedicated to films, which has been transposed into dark-ambient compositions. This is not exactly the familiar dark-ambient sound we’re used to hearing on leading labels in the genre, but a more diversified production. The diversity is definitely due to the contribution of guests and a few remixes as well.

The dark atmospheres have been reinforced by some Eastern sound elements, but also by experimental and even glitch-like passages. Spooky voices lost in an imaginary empty space can be heard as well while a few tracks feature some rhythmic parts moving into IDM.

+ + + : “Music To An Interior Film” clearly appeals to awake your fantasy skills creating a scary and mysterious universe. The low sounds create a somewhat agoraphobic impression where you feel like you are getting lost in endless corridors of obscurity. There are several poignant cuts on this album finding their ultimate apotheosis on “Trainspotting Femii with Casa De Orates”. This track mixes the dark-ambient basis of the album with an IDM approach while a few vocal lines performed by Femii accentuate the spooky side of the work.

– – – : All of the tracks can’t totally convince me and I especially refer to the more glitch-like minded “Pig Fucking Juventud Psychoboreal with CDO”.

Conclusion: Casa De Orates is an interesting discovery coming from a rather unexpected part of the globe. This band reveals a diversified and enjoyable ambient sound.

Best songs: “Trainspotting Femii with Casa De Orates”, “Aguirre, La ira de Dios Aero with CDO”, “Enter the void Serena Toxicat (Remix Cristian Soto”.

Rate: (7).

The 8th track on our free download compilation “Face The Beat: Session 4” (featuring 92 tracks) is by the Cologne (Germany) based act Binary Division in a remix by DJ Psyklon. Starting as a slightly “Trainspotting” inspired track (you need to check out the track to understand why we are saying this), the DJ Psyklon remix of “Hacker” quickly transforms into a heavy dark electro anthem.

Founded in 2012 by NeonSynth, the project recently signed to the darkTunes Music Group for which he recorded the 2 albums “The arrival” (2014) and “Re:arrived” (2015), plus the 2 EPs “Demo 2014” (2014) and “Riot Rebellion” (2015). The most recent releases are the remix loaded “Defcon 1” and “Defcon 2” EPs released this Summer. With over 3000 followers on Spotify you can consider them a newcomer from which we will hear a lot in the future!

The complete “Trainspotting” cast is returning for a sequel as we reported a while back.

And now Sony also launched a first glimpse of “T2”, the sequel which takes place 10 years after the first film. Director Danny Boyle stays on board just like the original cast consisting of Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle.

You can view the 46 second long trailer below.

The 1996 British black comedy crime drama “Trainspotting” was based on the novel of the same name by Irvine Welsh. Ewan McGregor (Rent Boy), Ewen Bremner (Spud), Johnny LeeMiller (Sick Boy) and Robert Carlyle (Franco) will again be featured in the sequel which will be loosely based on “Porno”, the novel published in 2002 by Scottish writer Irvine Welsh

The book describes the characters of Trainspotting 10 years after the events of the earlier book, as their paths cross again, this time with the pornography business as the backdrop rather than heroin use. The film will take place 9 years after the original film.

Here’s how “Trainspotting” looked like…

Since “Trainspotting” the leading characters have been doing quite some acting work. Bremner for instance has played supporting roles in blockbusters such as “Pearl Harbor” and “Black Hawk Down”, in which he appeared alongside Ewan McGregor (which he has again since, in “Perfect Sense” and “Jack the Giant Slayer”). Miller has risen to fame with his splendid acting work in for instance “The Flying Scotsman” (2006) and “Endgame” (2009). He currently stars as Sherlock Holmes in the CBS crime drama “Elementary”. Carlyle could be seen in “The Full Monty” (1997), “Ravenous” (1999), “28 Weeks Later” (2007) and many more films and television series. Finally there’s McGregor who has had success in mainstream, indie and art house films such as the young Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy (1999–2005), “The Ghost Writer”, and so on.

The complete “Trainspotting” cast is returning for a sequel. The 1996 British black comedy crime drama film directed by Danny Boyle, starred Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, Kevin McKidd and Robert Carlyle and was based on the novel of the same name by Irvine Welsh.

The idea is that he will shoot the film in 2016, which would be 20 years after the original came out.
