There is limited information available about this project, which released its debut EP through Bulgaria’s Corvus Records in early 2024. The 3 tracks are instrumental compositions, characterized by an exceptionally dark, doom-laden atmosphere and the unique inclusion of trumpet melodies. This combination creates a distinctive sound that can best be described as “Apocalyptic & Jazzy Film Noir” music. While the instrumental approach is striking, the addition of vocals could have added an extra layer of depth and emotional resonance to the compositions. (Rating:7).

About The Midnight Shade

The Midnight Shade released its self-titled debut EP on January 28, 2024 through the Bulgarian label Corvus Records. The 3-track EP consists of the instrumental pieces “Gumshoe Blues”, “City Of Shadows”, and “Gunsmoke And Chiaroscuro”. On Bandcamp the project describes its style as “Blackened Doom Jazz”.

Little else about the project has been documented. The self-titled EP reviewed here is its first release.
