The Cologne based act Superikone aka Malte Schmidt-Kohl has announced the release of their newest mix, “Aus purem Gold” (“Made of Pure Gold”), which is mixed by Frozen Plasma aka Vasi Vallis. This release also includes additional remixes from other artists including Diar Black, Airman, Vainerz, Michael McCain, Damn Electric Me, and Alivion.

In the words of Malte Schmidt-Kohl, the artist behind Superikone, the song deals with central philosophical questions about life and death with a uniquely captivating lightness and his characteristic eloquence. He dedicates the song as a preemptive thank you to those who will mourn his eventual passing, inviting them to celebrate life in the meantime.

The new single is available digitally now in both a Gold and Black edition, each with different mixes.

Also out on all digital platforms is Superikone’s album “1973” (Deluxe).

The Cologne based band Superikone is back with a double maxi, “Komm, lass uns tanzen”, on September 15th. This is the third single for the project this year and will be presented live on September 23rd, 2022 as part of a concert the the “Phönix Club” (Mülheim a.d.R.).

The German language futurepop / synthpop projekt Superikone by Malte Schmidt-Kohl, a film- and tv-music composer from Cologne, has a new single out, “Phönix” which was premiered at the band’s Wave-Gotik-Treffen show where a lot of new stuff was premiered.

Ther single holds 3 tracks, the title track in 2 versions and the B-side “Metamorphose” in the Analogmix.

The 74th track on our free download compilation “Face The Beat: Session 4” (featuring 92 tracks) is by the German electro act Superikone.

Behind the project you’ll find Malte El Niño (vocals, keys, programming & drums). Based in Cologne, Germany Superikone has published several self-released productions, mainly singles, EP’s and two albums.

We were quite surprised by the power behind the track we were sent as it sounds a bit like the offspring between Welle:Erdball and Melotron, which is also how Malte prefers to refer to his sound. It’s spot on!

Genre/Influences: Electro-pop, future-pop, body-pop.

Background/Info: Malte Schmidt-Kohl is a German musician based in Cologne and who was previously involved in the excellent electro-pop sounding Lunastoy. Superikone was set up in 2003 and self-released a few productions. This new production is a kind of comeback after several years of silence. This EP features 10 songs.

Content: The main source of inspiration running through Superikone is electro-pop music. The main song “Zuckervater” has been featured in 4 different versions/remixes mixing the electro-pop basis together with other elements like EBM, future-pop, retro-like plus one remix by P24.

Among the other tracks the fans of the band will recognize the song “Energie” (originally released as EP-title song and still featured on the 2^nd same-titled full length album). The song has been reworked into a future-pop mix.

Next to a few vintage-like cuts, the main attention grabber however is “1-2-3-Fear”, which is driven by a solid EBM bass line. This is for sure the hardest cut of the EP and is the most successful track.

All songs have been sung in German injecting this typical electro-body-pop flavor we’re used to hearing from German bands.

+ + + : “Zuckervater” clearly appears to be a hot and successful return for Superikone. The songs are well-crafted and revealing a great maturity. There’s a perfect balance between harder EBM components and catchy electro-pop arrangements. I also enjoy some of the vintage-like passages.

– – – : “Zuckervater” clearly appears the be the main song of the EP while the more EBM-driven “1-2-2-Fear” is without a shadow of a doubt the real hit of the EP. The single reproach I could imagine is that a few vocal parts could have been sung in a more passionate way.

Conclusion: Superikone took me by surprise delivering a refreshing –although not innovating, piece of diversified and danceable electro-pop music.

Best songs: “1-2-3-Fear”, “Zuckervater – Futurepopmix”, “Zuckervater – 7017 Mix”, “Himmelreich”.
