Genre/Influences: Dark-Electro.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Set up in 2010 by Raúl Junior Padrón and Raúl José Padrón, this Venezulian duo is operating from Hungary. This is also the place of their label Advoxya Records. The album was released early in 2021 and is also available as a double disc featuring remixes by bands like First Aid 4 Souls, Viscera Drip, Nohycit, Tragic Impulse ao.

Content: Subliminal Code is not what I can call a band, which repeats itself. They already revealed different sources of inspiration, from pure Dark-Electro towards a harder Industrial sound. I think this work rather sounds like the offspring of both styles; a perfect match between typical Dark-Electro sonorities and a harder Industrial side driven by guitar riffs. You’ll discover songs at full speed, but refined with melodies. The vocals accentuate the rage running through this work, which is symbolized by its title.

+ + + : What I like is the kind of harmony subliminal Code found between rage and melody. They really created a crossover between both genres, working on songs like “No More” and “To Night”. I especially recommend the second part of the album featuring the most interesting cuts.

– – – : I can’t say the debut songs are worse, but without a similar harmony between power and melody. The songs are driven by nervous sequences and rhythms, which are sometimes maybe too fast.

Conclusion: Subliminal Code is definitely not a copyist, but a Dark-Electro band with a different approach and vision.

Best songs: “No More”, “To Night”, “Malevolencia”.

Rate: 7.

Genre/Influences: EBM, dark-electro, dark-wave.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Nathan Rainer is active under the Third Realm moniker since 2000. He released multiple albums on labels such as Radio-Active Music and Distortion Productions plus self-released different works as well. He last year joined hands with darkTunes to unleash this new work.

Content: Third Realm moves on mixing EBM and dark-electro music. The album takes off with hot female moans while the harsh vocals of Nathan Rainer are joining in. This song is one of the two cuts featuring Chiasm, but is pretty representative of the album, revealing a hot and club-driven sexy EBM format. Some songs are darker and more dark-electro orientated while other passages are getting back to the dark-wave style of the project. Songs with clearer vocals are once again reminding me of Diary Of Dreams; there’s a natural power and charismatic interpretation of the songs.

The final part of the work features remixes by Aesthetic Perfection, Subliminal Code and Panic Lift.

+ + + : Third Realm moves on experimenting with different –although related, influences, but this album reveals a truly cohesive result. There’s a harmony between all songs, which naturally resulted in a few brilliant songs such as “Passion” and the dance-wave driven “Gazing At The Stars”. Third Realm has found the right balance between catchy choruses, danceable kicks and EBM power. Both songs featuring Chiasm are also noticeable parts revealing a hot balance between both singers. Last, but not least there’s also a great remix by Aesthetic Perfection.

– – – : Third Realm remains a project mixing multiple genres together so in the end you often get the feeling of hearing different bands, but I have to admit it’s not really the point of this work.

Conclusion: It’s hard to say if this is the best work ever composed by Third Realm, but it for sure is a very efficient mix between different, although related genres.

Best songs: “Passion”, Bipolar Pop feat. Chiasm”, “Gazing At The Stars”, Tides Of The Sea feat. Chiasm”, “Bipolar Pop feat. Chiasm – Aesthetic Perfection Remix”.

Rate: (8).

From Venezuela comes the harsh EBM act Subliminal Code who will see their first single “Malevolencia” released in advance of their second LP which is planned to be launched this year through the Hungarian label Advoxya Records.

“Malevolencia” has a more traditional EBM sound with some drum and bass rhythms mixed through it. Frontman Raul Jose explains: “It is a song that is addressed to all those people who envy and are hypocrites, and who only seek damage to their neighbor instead of worrying about growing or reaching their goals.”

Malevolencia by Subliminal Code

The band is at the moment working on the recordings of their newest album. “The entire album will be ready soon, we are just missing the vocals on 5 tracks, but that’s due to some health problems”, says Raul Jose.

Background/Info: Set up in the 90s by Brazilian artist Giba Reys, Homicidal Feelings stopped all activities during a rather long lapse of time until the project got reactivated a few years ago. The album “Virtue To Vice” got released by Advoxya in 2014 while “Cognitive Disorders” saw the light of day at the end of 2016. The album is more a kind of EP featuring numerous remixes and only a few new cuts.

Content: Homicidal Feelings deals with a dark EBM format mixed with some classical dark-electronic elements. The sound is harsh and features various industrial sounds. The vocals are harsh as well. Next to the danceable aspect of the work there also is an obscure and sometimes disturbing atmosphere supporting the songs. The sampling ‘Allahu Akbar’ only accentuates the mystery and torment running through the songs.

Next to 4 new cuts there also is a song featuring Deadjump and a kind of cover/tribute of the :Wumpscut: song “Slave To Evil”.

The main part of the work features remixes by Cardinal Noire, Larva, Serpents, Cold Therapy, Subliminal Code, Brain Over Dust, Deadjump, Amorphous, Human Vault and Atropine.

+ + + : I really like the original edits by Homicidal Feelings. The dark and tormented EBM style was remarkably accomplished while the dense and heavy sound atmospheres inject this kind of angst feeling. This band deals with the coldest format of electronics and has composed a few brilliant cuts, “Sectarian Strife” being my personal favorite one.

Among the remixes I would especially mention the work of Larva and Subliminal Code plus the more minimal-like sounding remix of Atropine.

– – – : I would have preferred to hear an entire album instead of this remix orgy. The :Wumpscut:-tribute is for sure an original idea, but not exactly the best track from the list. I expected a bit more out of the remixes, the original versions being definitely better!

Conclusion: Homicidal Feelings in an interesting Brazilian formation if you’re in search of tormented EBM. The new songs are danceable and supported with frightening dark atmospheres.

Best songs: “Sectarian Strife”, “The Final Consummation”, “One Existence In Pain”, “One Existence In Pain – Myasis Mix by Larva”, “Cognitive Disorders – Atropine”, “Cognitive disorders – Subliminal Code”.

Rate: (7½).

Background/Info: Subliminal Code is a project from Venezuela set up and driven by Raul Jose Padron. After the album (cf. “Karma In Mortem”) released in 2014 on Advoxya Records, this ‘new’ opus is a kind of back to the roots. The work features reworked songs from the debut release “Soldier Of Hell” originally released in 2011 on Engraved Ritual and reveals a mix of furious guitar and electronics. Four songs from this album have been reworked and re-recorded while you also will discover 10 remixes from the new versions.

Content: No doubt about it, Subliminal Code is the hardest band I’ve heard on Advoxya Records. The reworked songs are pure hardcore. The music and cadence both stands for an infernal production joined by furious and enraged vocals. It’s impossible to understand the lyrical content, but you’ll notice the songs have been sung in Spanish and English. “Soldier Of Hell” sounds speed-like and without any break.

Most of the remixes hold onto the devilish tempo, but most of the bands tried to inject more ‘classical’ dark-electro elements in the atmospheric part and melody lines. Remixes were accomplished by Homicidal Feeling, Viscera Drip, Benjamin’s Plague, Cold Therapy, Devilsight, Mulphia, Reactor7X, Stahlnebel & Black Selket, Proyecto Crisis and Adeonesis. Fans of Advoxya Records will immediately notice the remixes were made by label mates.

+ + + : I think it’s a good idea to rework early and somewhat forgotten tracks to bring them back to life. This album also injects some diversity to the dark-electro roster of the label.

There are several noticeable remixes and I especially want to recommend the work of Devilsight transforming the original cadence in a rather dark-electro hopping rhythm. Proyecto Crisis did a great job as well and will mainly ravish the dearest dark-electro lovers. I also want to mention Benjamin’s Plague, Reactor7X and Stahlnebel & Black Selket.

– – – : The hardcore and enraged format of the reworked songs by Subliminal Code isn’t an easy thing to endure if you expect dark-electronic music. It’s not exactly the most accessible release of the label and maybe more suited for metal fans and hardcore heads.

Conclusion: “Soldier Of Hell Reborn” stands for violence and the mutation of electronics into merciless, hardcore music.

Best songs: “Sin Of Pleasure V2”, “Sin Of Pleasure V2 – Remix by Devilsight”, “Soldier Of Hell V2 – Remix and feat. By Proyecto Crisis”.

The Insane Records label and the Terror Night radio show have joined forces to release “Terror Night Vol.2 – Sounds Of Dead Future”, a compilation album that consists of 100% exclusive tracks by dark electro bands from all over the world. The release date is scheduled for June 30, 2016!

The compilation is the follow-up to the first compilation “Terror Night Vol.1 – Industrial Madness”. Compared to the first volume this volume has a more diversified tracklist catering to more styles related to dark electro.
Chief editor of Side-Line – which basically means I spend my days wading through a relentless flood of press releases from labels, artists, DJs, and zealous correspondents. My job? Strip out the promo nonsense, verify what’s actually real, and decide which stories make the cut and which get tossed into the digital void. Outside the news filter bubble, I’m all in for quality sushi and helping raise funds for Ukraine’s ongoing fight against the modern-day axis of evil. Besides music I’m also an SEO and AI content flow specialist and have an interest in everything finance from stocks to crypto. There is music in everything!
