Warp Records is releasing a special anniversary edition of Squarepusher’s debut album “Feed Me Weird Things”, 25 years to the day from its original release in ‘96. First released on the now inactive Rephlex label, the album has not been available on streaming platforms until now and has been out of print for more than a decade. It will be reissued on vinyl (2 x 12” 1 x 10” + booklet), deluxe casebound book CD and all digital formats.

This complete edition has been remastered from the original DATs and features two extra tracks which were first released on the B-side of the Squarepusher “Plays…” EP and later featured on the original Japanese release of this album. The edition also includes a 16 page booklet with personal photographs, ephemera and candid notes from Tom Jenkinson, throwing light on the early days of his career.

Good to know, it was Richard D. James (Aphex Twin) who curated the track list for “Feed Me Weird Things” from tapes that Tom had given him and the record includes sleeve notes written by him too, the only time he has done so for another artist.

About Squarepusher

Squarepusher is 46-year old Tom Jenkinson, is an English electronic musician, record producer, bassist, and DJ. His music spans several genres, including drum and bass, IDM, jazz, and electroacoustic music. His recordings are often typified by a combination of complex drum programming, live instrumental playing, and digital signal processing.

He released his 1996 debut LP “Feed Me Weird Things” on Rephlex Records. Jenkinson accepted a five-album record contract with Warp Records in December 1995 which resulted in “Port Rhombus” which was Tom’s first release on Warp Records.

Squarepusher is releasing a special 25th anniversary edition of the project’s debut album “Feed Me Weird Things”. The album will be out on June 4th on WARP. It will also be the first time that Squarepusher’s debut album will be available on streaming platforms.

The album was a key release for Richard D. James (Aphex Twin) and Grant Wilson-Claridge’s Rephlex label and has gone on to be regarded as one of Squarepusher’s best. It was on strength of this record and Squarepusher’s early EPs on various labels that caught the attention of Steve Beckett who signed Tom to Warp. The “Port Rhombus” EP on Warp came out later the same year, with “Vic Acid” EP and the “Hard Normal Daddy” album following in 1997.

Following the release of his album “Be Up A Hello” at the end of January, and the follow-up “Lamental” EP last Friday, UK born electronic act Squarepusher now releases the video for “Detroit People Mover”. The video handles the neglected mass transit system in the US city from which the track takes its name.

This portrait serves as a drastic contrast to Squarepusher’s last visual representation for “Terminal Slam”, which with its bustling street scenes was shot just three months before, including at the busiest crossing in the world in Shibuya.

Tom Jenkinson (Squarepusher) says: “I like the way both of these videos articulate salient points about our urban environments – in Terminal Slam about the prevalence of advertising and possibilities for its subversion, and here regarding our zombie cities that despite the lack of everyday human contact continue marching on. The track itself is part of a series begun in 1993 inspired by the music of Detroit.”

In the meantime Squarepusher’s postponed worldwide tour has now been rescheduled for October onwards.

The video for “Detroit People Mover” was shot by director Jacob Hurwitz-Goodman and director of photography Zachary Elwart and was produced by Nick George.

Squarepusher aka UK artist Tom Jenkinson will return with a new album “Be Up A Hello” on the 31st of January via Warp Records. His new single, “Nervelevers,” is out now. A video has also been released and can be viewed below.

“Nervelevers” breakneck breakbeats recall classic moments from Squarepusher’s much-loved catalogue, which coupled with its blistering acid line also exemplifies the influence his formative years in the Essex rave scene had on the new LP.

After a 5 year hiatus Squarepusher will return with a the album “Be Up A Hello”, out on the 31st of January. Fans can enjoy a taster as the double-A side 12” Vortrack will be released on the 6th of December, featuring Squarepusher’s Fracture remix. Check the videos for both tracks below.

With this new album, Tom Jenkinson (Squarepusher) has returned to using vintage analogue and digital hardware, the same equipment that first helped him develop his sound in the early ’90s.

The past few years Jenkinson has been stepping away from the Squarepusher moniker exploring new territory such as forming the band Shobaleader One to reinterpret an array of classic Squarepusher tracks. He also scored the music for a 1 hour ‘CBeebies’ show and made the album “All Night Chroma” which was a series of compositions recorded on the Royal Festival Hall organ.
