(Photo via It’s Alive! Media & Management) DEVO member Gerald V. Casale, a pioneer in the New Wave genre, has released a groundbreaking “4-Dimensional” music video for his track “Lounge: Pay U Back”. This release is part of his newly reissued The Invisible Man EP, which is available for purchase directly from GeraldVCasale.com.

Casale collaborated with 4D Fun Studios, the video employs an advanced volumetric capture system, creating a 360° virtual CG environment from reality, using 32 digital scanning cameras.

This version of “I’m Gonna Pay U Back” features a ‘Lounge’ style reinterpretation, marking Casale’s first collaboration with Foo Fighters’ new drummer Josh Freese. Steve Bartek, the lead guitarist of OingoBoingo, also joins this unique musical venture. The video showcases digital avatars of all three musicians in an alternate 4-Dimensional reality.

Initially released as an exclusive for Record Store Day, the first pressing of the EP quickly sold out. Now, fans can acquire the 12-inch crystal clear ‘invisible’ vinyl, which is offered with autograph options. Additionally, the EP is available on CD and cassette, marking Casale’s first in three decades. “Hurt” is taken from Nine Inch Nails’ second studio album, “The Downward Spiral” (1994), and was written by Trent Reznor. It was released on April 17, 1995, as a promotional single from the album. In 2002, Johnny Cash covered Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt” to commercial and critical acclaim. Reznor praised Cash’s interpretation of the song for its “sincerity and meaning”, going so far as to say “that song isn’t mine anymore”.

But, legendary producer Rick Rubin has now told the BBC that Johnny Cash didn’t want to record “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails at first. It weren’t the lyrics that Cash didn’t like, it was the aggressive, rock nature of the original version. Johnny Cash’s reluctance to record “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails initially stemmed from his uncertainty about connecting with the song’s modern, somber tone. Trance Wax is an alias of Belfast-born producer Garry McCartney, also known as Ejeca. His Trance Wax project began as an anonymous series of vinyl-only bootlegs back in 2015 on which he reworked classics from Yves Deyurter, BT, and Mauro Picotto. Two Trance Wax edits of Above & Beyond’s OceanLab project were released on Anjunabeats in 2019, with the debut Trance Wax album following in November 2020.

Remixers of the album have included the likes of Dusky, Kevin De Vries, Shanti Celeste, and now 808 State. In a reaction v says that “Eve was pretty Balearic in its original form, but we’ve given it a spray tan using some vintage analog synths and guitars. One for the sunset crew!”

About 808 State

808 State are an English electronic music group which formed in 1987 in Manchester, taking their name from the Roland TR-808 drum machine. They were formed by Graham Massey, Martin Price and Gerald Simpson, and they released their debut album, “Newbuild”, in September 1988. The band secured commercial success in 1989, when their song “Pacific State” was picked up by BBC Radio 1 DJ Gary Davies.

Simpson left the group in 1989 to form his own solo project, A Guy Called Gerald. At this point, the remaining personnel enlisted DJs Andrew Barker and Darren Partington, known as the Spinmasters, and recorded the EP, “Quadrastate” in July 1989. “Ninety” was released in December 1989.

MC Tunes worked with the band on the 1990 album, “The North at Its Heights”, which became a moderate success. MC Tunes returned in 1996 to work on a new track, “Pump”, taken from 808 State’s album “Thermo Kings”. 808 State’s next album was released in 1991, “Ex:el”, which featured the vocals of Bernard Sumner and Björk.

In October 1991, it was Price’s turn to leave the group to perform solo production work, eventually forming his own label, Sun Text. The remaining members released a fourth album called “Gorgeous”, and after that, did some remix work for David Bowie, Soundgarden, and other performers, before returning with the album entitled “Don Solaris” in 1996. They released a greatest hits compilation album, “808:88:98” in 1998. In 2000, “Newbuild” was re-released.

The albums “Ex:el” and “Gorgeous” show the band’s new wave influences by sampling or featuring new wave icons such as Bernard Sumner on the song “Spanish Heart” and Ian McCulloch on “Moses”. The song “Contrique” samples the bassline to Joy Division’s “She’s Lost Control” and “10 X 10” is a gospel-house track built on the foundation of The Jam’s “Start!”.

In 2003, they released “Outpost Transmission” which featured guest collaborations from the Alabama 3 and Guy Garvey from Elbow. In May 2008, the re-issue of the album “Quadrastate” completed a trilogy of pre-ZTT releases on CD for the first time.

Partington left the band after being jailed for 18 months in January 2015 for dealing heroin and crack cocaine. He continues to DJ regularly and is lead singer with new Manchester band Big Unit, a rock band with acid house underpinnings.

In April 2018 the remaining members announced a brand new live show for a 30th Anniversary Tour to take place in November/December. The show will feature new versions of tracks from their 30-year history and totally new material from their forthcoming sixth studio album.

The band’s last studio album was 2019’s “Transmission Suite”.

Brad Pitt has teamed up with director Peter Berg (via their Film 45 production company) and Chris Cornell’s widow Vicky Cornell to work on a new documentary about her husband. Cornell’s widow, Vicky, is producing the film.

Pitt is a long-time friend of the Cornell family, so the news doesn’t come as a complete surprise.

Chris Cornell died in Detroit on May 18, 2017. He was best known as the lead vocalist, primary songwriter and rhythm guitarist for Seattle rock band Soundgarden and for his role as one of the architects of the 1990s grunge movement. He was also lead vocalist and songwriter for the group Audioslave and recorded numerous solo works and soundtrack contributions since 1991, and as founder and frontman for Temple of the Dog, the one-off tribute band dedicated to his late friend Andrew Wood.

Soundgarden fans, check this out. In 1996, Johnny Cash recorded a cover of Soundgarden’s hit “Rusty Cage”, written by frontman Chris Cornell, on his album “Unchained”. Twenty years later, Cornell wrote the next chapter in this musical relationship by setting a newly discovered poem of Cash’s to music, to create the all-new song “You Never Knew My Mind”. It was recorded at the historic Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, TN, and marks one of Cornell’s final solo recordings.

The song is featured on “Johnny Cash: Forever Words”, out April 6 on Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment. The album is comprised of Cash’s unknown poetry, lyrics, and letters, now set to music by an array of contemporary artists. Along with Cornell, the album features new songs by Ruston Kelly & Kacey Musgraves, Rosanne Cash, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Kris Kristofferson & Willie Nelson, Brad Paisley, John Mellencamp, Carlene Carter, Elvis Costello, The Jayhawks and more.

Bad news, again. Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell has suddenly died on Wednesday night just hours after a gig in Detroit. A medical examiner has stated that Cornell committed suicide.

Chris Cornell (born Christopher John Boyle) was best known as the lead vocalist, primary songwriter and rhythm guitarist for Seattle rock band Soundgarden and for his role as one of the architects of the 1990s grunge movement. He was also lead vocalist and songwriter for the group Audioslave and recorded numerous solo works and soundtrack contributions since 1991, and as founder and frontman for Temple of the Dog, the one-off tribute band dedicated to his late friend Andrew Wood.

He released four solo studio albums, “Euphoria Morning” (1999), “Carry On” (2007), “Scream” (2009), “Higher Truth” (2015) and the live album “Songbook” (2011).

Original members of Sex Gang Children come together for a live tour in support of the forthcoming release of the complete Sex Gang Children A & B sides Singles (1982-1983) album. The line-up will exist of: Andi Sex Gang – vocals, Terry MacLeay – guitar, Mathew James Saw – bass, Rob Stroud – drums, Bari Goddard – cinematic visuals.

Formed at the beginning of 1982 by vocalist Andi Sex Gang, the band quickly made a name for themselves in the London underground scene with their intense theatrical live performances and unique brand of sound and onstage visuals.

Cited as an early influence by the likes of Jane’s Addiction, Soundgarden and Danzig, Sex Gang Children have never compromised in their approach to the art, with songs such as “Deiche”, “Sebastiane” and “Mauritia Mayer” remaining to this day alternative and Goth club favourites all over the world.
