Background/Info: “Parasomnia” comes as an extension to the last year released album “Fever Dream”, which was a collaboration between American projects Snowbeasts and Solypsis. Seven songs from this album have been exposed to the remix skills of sixteen artists.

Content: The work is a diversified and somewhat versatile rework of album songs. There are many influences, moving from pure Industrial to Minimal-Electro to Trance passages to D’n’B to Industrial-Techno to IDM. Remixes have been accomplished by Luke Lund, Compactor, Skintape, Somatic Responses, Alpturer, Spheric, Skymall, STCLVR, Robert Imhuman, Rekt, The Gothsicles, Cathode Ray Tube, Anatoly Grinberg, Sawtooth, Amantra and Solypsis.

+ + + : The good thing with such an album is that we all will find one or more favorite remixes. It’s hard to give a favorite, but I like the IDM approach of Cathode Ray Tube. I also enjoyed the opening remix by Luke Lund, transforming “The Ultimatum” into an Industrial-Trance driven dance piece. There’s also something to say about the remix of “Reprieve” by Skintape, which is a cool Electro-Industrial cut. The Industrial-Techno bouncing remix of “Modular Cytology” by Alpturer is another noticeable track. Last, but not least I’ll also mention “Artificial Everything” remixed in a more Electro-driven way by The Gothsicles.

– – – : I’ve never been a huge fan of productions filled with an endless list of remixes. I also prefer the original songs although I’ve to admit there are a few cool songs featured.

Conclusion: Remixes often are a good way to bring original songs to life. Here we get an open-minded Industrial driven production.

Background/Info: The brothers Paul- and John Healy better known as Somatic Responses are now active for more than 20 years. They’ve released an endless list of productions and started 2018 with “Pattern Finding”.

Content: I sometimes get the impression Somatic Responses wants to mix a maximum of influences together. It creates a diversified industrial opus, but it’s not exactly the most common Indus-format. This new work moves from dark-haunting spheres to dynamic breakcore parts to next deal with pure industrial crashes. Some cuts are pure ambient-minded while others reflect elements of acid- and techno music.

+ + + : Paul and John are no longer classical musicians. They became a kind of sound alchemists who’re exploring different styles, which are sometimes hard to match. Nothing is impossible for the duo and this album is a new testimony from their impressive skills. The work became a controlled chaos revealing different great parts. I’m into the haunting opening cut, but still in the techno-orientated “Captured”. Both songs sound like opposites, but the industrial arrangements make it compact. I also want to mention “Dirt Is In The Eye Of The Beholder”, which reveals the IDM approach of the duo. But here again you’ll notice the industrial basis running through the track.

– – – : Somatic Responses remains a guarantee for modern industrial- & experimental music, but on the other side and after that much records, the magic is a bit gone.

Conclusion: “Pattern Finding” covers an impressive list of influences, which have been all cemented by industrial sounds.

Best songs: “Dirt Is In The Eye Of The Beholder”, “Explosive Regression”, “Captured”, “Teenage Crush(ed)”.

John & Paul Healy aka Somatic Responses return with a brand new album, one year after releasing “Folding Space”. Their new album, “Pattern Seeking” will be out in a few weeks.

The Ammanford (UK) based band was formed in 1994 by the brothers John and Paul Healy. Since they they have released over 80 (!) albums, singles and EPs via various labels.

Out in 3 weeks from now is the newest Somatic Responses album, “Folding Space”. “Folding Space” comes five years after the brothers John and Paul Healy saw the album “Concrete Glider” released.

The new album counts 14 tracks and blends cinematic ambient soundscapes, melodic acid influenced technoid electro, aggressive IDM / breakbeat and powerful industrial. The CD is available now for ordering.
