“Seeadler“, the latest full-length album from German electro-industrial act Rummelsnuff will be out on July 18, 2025 via Out of Line. It will be available as a limited edition blue vinyl LP and standard jewel case CD. A limited set also holds a cassette.

“Seeadler” continues the maritime-themed musical journey of Käpt’n Rummelsnuff and his long-time collaborator Asbach. Known for blending electronic body music with seafaring bravado, the duo mixes genres like electro, punk, and industrial into what Rummelsnuff dubs “Strommusik”. The album includes seaman’s chants, playful dance tracks, and robust industrial beats.

Commenting on the album’s sound, Rummelsnuff says that “Seeadler” balances “brawny party anthems and electrifying dance tunes”, noting the analog warmth of the vinyl edition in particular.

The LP and CD versions share the same tracklist.

About Rummelsnuff

Rummelsnuff is the musical project of German artist Roger Baptist, active since the early 2000s. Based in Germany, Rummelsnuff developed a unique aesthetic rooted in body culture, maritime themes, and industrial soundscapes. The project was later joined by Christian Asbach, forming the duo Rummelsnuff & Asbach.

Their 2016 album “Rummelsnuff & Asbach” featured elements of folk, punk, and cabaret, followed by “Salzig Schmeckt Der Wind” in 2018 .

The project is signed to Out of Line Music, a Berlin-based label specializing in dark electronic music.

Out now is the digital / vinyl EP “Hinterwäldler” by the Berlin based duo Rummelsnuff & Asbach. The EP holds Five new songs plus an intro from the Käpt’n and Maat.

“Hinterwäldler” is an homage to the people in sparsely populated areas, with a slightly self-deprecating look at their origins according to the band. Guest star on trumpet is Christian Magnusson.

The cover of the EP was realized by Benny Schubert.

Rummelsnuff (born July 14, 1966 in Grossenhain as Roger Baptist) is a German musician and lyricist who brings electropunk. He is joined here by Christian Abach (born 1976 in Westerwald) who is a German director and singer. He is best known for guest appearances as Maat Asbach in Rummelsnuff.

Genre/Influences: Experimental, Electro-Pop, EBM, Marching Band.

Format: Digital, CD, 2 Vinyls, Cassette.

Background/Info: Five years have passed since the last Rummelsnuff-album, which was already featuring Christian Asbach. The new work reveals sixteen cuts of pure fun.

Content: Rummelsnuff remains the weirdest and most surprising formation from this underground scene. The success story of the band is 99% spread over homeland Germany and that’s mainly because of the German vocals. The lyrics are totally fun and hilarious, which fits with the sound of Rummelsnuff. It remains a challenge defining the sound of this formation, which rather sounds as the offspring between Electronics, Pop, Folk and influences of Marching Band. One of the songs features the chorus sung in French, the pronunciation of some words being too fun to be true.

+ + + : Rummelsnuff remains a challenge, but also an original formation. There’s only one Rummelsnuff and it’s an antidote to Dark-Electronics, Industrial, gothic and related music genres. Rummelsnuff makes people happy and gets them into dance; it’s music for tough sailors with a sugar heart. The song “Berlinverbot” is my personal favorite; sounding a bit more Electro-like and into Pop.

– – – : It remains a mystery to me why Rummelsnuff is so much appreciated and recognized in Germany, but it’s remains fun and that’s what people need today!

Conclusion: If you feel depressed and you can’t laugh anymore, try Rummelsnuff; better than all antidepressants!

Best songs: “Berlinverbot”, “Feuerwehr”, “vacances”, Vater”.

Rate: 7½.

About Rummelsnuff

For those readers unknown with Rummelsnuff, he is a German musician and lyricist and the son of a family of renowned musicians (Renate and Peter Baptist).

In the early 1980s, Roger Baptist began experimental work with old keyboards, microphones, drums, a bass guitar and various tape recorders . Under the influence of the Leipzig band Die Art , he founded the band Kein Mitleid in 1987, which was mainly devoted to English-language music. In 1989 he joined the Dresden underground band Friends of the Italian Opera (FDIO) and, as a co-author of Jänz Dittschlag and RJKKHänsch, created numerous songs for the band, including on the record “Um Thron und Liebe” and the CD “Edle Einfalt Stille Größewere”.

After the Friends of Italian Opera broke up in 1992, Baptist founded the EBM and NDH band Automatic Noir, which existed until 1999. After the decline of the project followed several years of abstinence from music. It was his contact with the Norwegian artist Bjarne Melgaard that made him create the figure of “Rummelsnuff” in 2004. The first album was released in March 2008 on Alfred Hilsberg’s label ZickZack Records.

The rest is history.

About Asbach

Christian Asbach likes to regard himself as oldschool european intellectual and fan of craftsmanship. Trained scholar in the fields of aesthetics and media history, he took the step from theory to the practices of directing, cinematography, and editing.

Besides freelance film work, he sings in Rummelsnuff & Asbach.

The ‘Electrostorm’-sampler is back. On volume 9 Out Of Line unifies the best of its dark electronic acts on one CD including 17 partly brand-new and exclusive tracks (new songs, limited remixes, and rarities). The sampler also holds 2 newcomers on the label, namely Kiberspassk and Yellow Lazarus.

Here is the video of the new Kiberspassk track “Derevna”.

Outside the news filter bubble, I’m all in for quality sushi and helping raise funds for Ukraine’s ongoing fight against the modern-day axis of evil.
Here’s the “Müllabfuhr” video.

I will always link
Peter Elm to Restricted Area. This Swedish EBM and body-pop project released a
few great productions from the midst of the 90s till the early millennium
years. The last productions were released on EK Product in 2010 and 2011. After
a break of several years Peter Elm got back into business, setting up ELM and
signing to Alfa Matrix. The album “Hardline” released in 2016 revealed a hard
and pure old-school EBM. Three years later ELM strikes back with a new opus entitled
“Extreme Unspoken Tension”. The album was preceded by the great EP “Death Of
The North” revealing the raw power of ELM. This production is for sure one of
the EBM high lights from 2019 and will appeal for all retro-EBM lovers. This is
what Peter Elm has to say about it.

(Courtesy by Inferno Sound Diaries)

Q: You’ve just
released the second Elm-album “Extreme Unspoken Tension”. What have been the
main triggers and influences to start writing this work and did you’d a
specific focus in the composition/production process?

Peter: It’s just honest
self-expression and reflections about ’the world we live in and life in
general’. If you’re pissed off, the music you make will naturally reflect that.
Anyone with some integrity and sensitivity left will know what I mean and feel
my sincerity in the songs. I’m not trying to fit into any genre or to be cool.

Q: “Extreme Unspoken Tension” is an intriguing title,
which clearly has a deeper significance. What’s hiding behind the title and
what have been the main lyrical themes you tried to express?

Peter: Yes. I like the title
and the sound of it. I also find that the artwork adds yet another dimension
and enhances the meaning of the title. Anyone not entirely brainwashed knows
there are severe problems in Europe. Political correctness is badly disguised
fascism and there are more and more restrictions about what you are allowed to
say and how you are allowed to behave. There is an underlying tension. And all
along Big Brother watches closely. Of course the whole atmosphere is soaked
with hypocrisy. It’s disgusting. The development on a moral and philosophical
level is quite devastating and is slowly and effectively removing charm and
humor from our society. And the sheep follow. Nice.

Q: What did you try to achieve sound- & song-wise?
Did you try to incorporate new elements in the production? What have been the
main challenges?

Peter: The main challenge is achieving a solid, high-quality production and
of course you need to have good songs to start with.

Sound wise I will always go towards and develop a sound that I personally
am passionate about. Solid synthetic bass sounds and well-crafted bass-lines
combined with honest aggression. The songs and lyrics need to be there though
and need to find their place in the right musical environment.

I think there is a lot of variation on ”Extreme Unspoken Tension” and I
don’t like albums where all songs sound the same. There are a lot of quite
alternative song structures on the album such as ”Altitude 100”, ”Apocalypse”
or ”Redemption”…

I also find that the album also has quite a more modern and fresh sound.

Q: The limited edition of this album became something
very special; a great concept featuring alternative edits from every song. How
did you get this idea? What did you try to accomplish with this disc and
alternative edits and how did you get in touch with Rummelsnuff?

Peter: Thank you. Yes, it was a lot of work. It started with the feeling
that I actually always preferred when bands did their own remixes as opposed to
letting other artists do them. I used to love the 12 inch-style remixes of
bands like Depeche Mode or Nitzer Ebb. I also thought it would be an easier and
smoother process if I just did the remixes myself… Although fun, it turned out
to be rather tedious…

In the end I found that I could have more fun and relax more for the disc B
songs since they were ’only’ remixes/bonus versions. I actually prefer some of
these to the originals.

I’m a big fan of Rummelsnuff and had a chat with him when he had a gig in Brussels
a few years back. I contacted him about doing a translation/poem with one of my
songs and we came up with ”Distracted”. Personally I find that the song suits
his vagabond-style of storytelling. I also tried to make the song a bit more
’German sounding’ and stomping. Rummelsnuff is really cool since he always did
his own thing. I respect that. Honest self-expression.

Q: Image is an essential item when it comes to EBM;
bodies have to be muscled and sculptural while clothing is important as
well! It sometimes even becomes more important than the music properly
speaking. Is it an aspect you’re taking care about and where do you place image
in the story of ELM?

Peter: Images and concept
need to go esthetically well with the music. Once again, this is all about the
art and the expression. In the case of both ”Hardline” and ”Extreme Unspoken
Tension” the artwork combined with the music form a fist forged by fire from
the heart. The artwork should be like a statement. This is what I have to say.
Join in or fuck off.

I’ve always been a huge fan of NSK, Laibach and totalitarian art so my
covers will naturally have influences from them. When it comes to superficial
image or clothing I really don’t give a fuck.

The music is what is important.

Q: You’re based in Brussels since a couple of years.
How does it feel living in the center of Europe and does this town and/or
Belgium have a real impact on you as musician?

Peter: I like Brussels a lot because of its diversity, movement and
international feel. I love the mix of languages. It’s easy to travel anywhere
and I’ve come to get great friends here. There is a lot of music going on also,
in a sense even more than in Berlin where I also used to live. In a way it’s
like a mix between Paris and Berlin.

Genre/Influences:
EBM.

Background/Info:
Three
years after his hard-hitting debut-album “Hardline”, Swedish EBM master and
ex-Restricted Area operator, Peter Elm strikes back with his second album. The
previously released EP “Death Of The North” was a solid appetizer to welcome
this EBM work.

Content:
Elm
remains faithful to the EBM old-school. The bass lines might remind you of
Nitzer Ebb while the entire production has this good-old electronic-body-music
spirit. The short tracks are mixing energy, fast forward linear drum patterns
and harsh, enraged vocals. The tracks feature the unavoidable metallic noises and
some simple melody lines. The lyrics reflect a critical perception about
Western life.

The
limited edition featuring an extra disc features exactly the same tracklist
where each song has been remixed or delivered in an alternative edit. Peter Elm
accomplished all remixes/alternative edits himself while there’s one special
song featuring Rummelsnuff who translated the original vocals into German and
singing them his very own and unique way.

+
+ + : No doubt about it, the new ELM opus is for sure one of the most
noticeable retro-EBM productions from the year. Peter Elm perfectly knows how
to compose efficient and powerful EBM. The formula remains quite simple: a hard
driven, linear kick plus a solid bass line plus a simple lead to inject an
extra dimension during the chorus and charismatic vocals. But Elm also takes
care of the little details, which makes the composition more elaborated than
most of these EBM productions. This is an aspect, which also comes through in
the lyrical content; no easy vocals like ‘move your body’. But EBM is first of
all music to dance on and ELM brings several solid dancefloor killers. “Death
Of The north” remains a great piece, but I also have to mention “Switching
Addictions”, “Cut You Down”, “Violent Heart”, “Distracted” ao.

I
also like the concept of the bonus disc featuring an alternative version of
every song. I here recommended the epic version of “Redemption”, “the sexy
version of “Death Of The North”, the “Extended” version of “Cut You Down”, the
power emerging from “Switching Addiction” and especially “smother Box” plus the
funny, but cool adaptation of Rummelsnuff on “Zerfahren” (adaptation of “Distracted”.

–
– – : I hoped to discover another great cut in the line of “Death From The
North”, but it remains the absolute hit from the album. This is a cool work,
but the EBM formula is sometimes a little bit too repetitive. I also think that
some choruses could be a little bit more explicit.

Conclusion:
This
album is a great EBM gift for all die-hard freaks; powerful music mixed with
interesting lyrics!

Best
songs: “Death Of The North”, “Cut You Down”, “Switching Addictions”, “Violent
Heart” + “Smother Box – Mother of Aggression-Mix”, “Switching Addictions – XXX
Club-mix”, “Death Of The North – 7 Inch edit”, “Cut You Down – Extended”,
“Redemption – Akropolis Version”.

Artists: Blutengel, Solar Fake, Rummelsnuff, Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, Heimataerde, Rave The Reqviem, Fear Of Domination, Davey Suicide, Combichrist, Rabia Sorda, Ost-Front, Solitary Experiments, Melotron, Hocico, Signal Aout 42, Accessory, Dive, Suicide Commando, Amduscia ao.

Content: The first disc is the most eclectic one although more focalized around gothic-inspired formations. The second disc reveals the ‘newest’ direction of the label, which is inspired by metal-related formations. This is an opportunity to discover different bands that aren’t (or not yet) signed to Out Of Line. Finally we get the last disc revealing electronic bands that have made the name and reputation of Out Of Line.

+ + + : This new edition is quite fascinating for its diversity revealing a label, which has seriously enlarged its sonic horizon throughout the years, but especially during the past few years. The tracklist is impressive and confirms the leading status of the label. When a label has bands such as Blutengel, Suicide Commando, Hocico, Dive, Solitary Experiments, Ost-Front, Combichrist, Ordo Rosarius Equilbrio, Client ao flying under their wings you only, but agree this is a major company.

– – – : From a very personal point of view I’m not totally convinced by the metal direction of the label although it clearly will catch the attention of a wider -and different audience. But my main regret is that the familiar bands have been featured with known songs. I even noticed Angels & Agony with a song from 2015!

Conclusion: This is a colossal compilation, which is really interesting if you’re not that familiar with Out Of Line and/or simply you’re a die-hard fan of the Berlin-based label.

Best bands: Blutengel, The Ritualists, Heimataerde, Rave The Reqviem, Rabia Sorda, Solitary Experiments, Massive Ego, Chrom, Dive, Amduscia.

Background/Info: ‘Käpt’n Rummelsnuff’ commonly known as Rummelsnuff has now been active for several years and can look back at an impressive discography (mainly released on Out Of Line). It seems it was the right time to consider a ‘best of’ featuring some of the German bodybuilder’s greatest hits. The songs have been remastered and are available next to the CD-format on vinyl as well. There’re a few remixes featured as well.

Content: Rummelsnuff has always been something apart; a sound, which is hard to describe, but especially pretty different from what we’re used to hearing on Out Of Line. The songs sung in German tell crazy little stories. It’s pretty fun-like and constantly carried by this typical accordion sound reminding to sailor songs. But you’ll also notice songs with a bombardon.

Other cuts are more electronic and revealing a mix of electro-pop and even EBM. There’s an interesting remix of Pankow featured.

+ + + : The main strength of Rummelsnuff is the unique and totally uncompromised approach. There’s no other formation like Rummelsnuff and ‘Popeye – ‘Käpt’n Rummelsnuff’ makes no compromises. It remains a mystery to me why this band gained that recognition (in their homeland), but it for sure has something to do with the image and the weird music. Rummelsnuff gets ‘dark souls’ laughing. Speaking for myself I prefer the more electro-pop driven songs although they also have something pretty different from the usual standards.

– – – : This album is mainly meant to please the heaviest fans of Rummelsnuff. It’s starts to bore me after a while, the songs being too repetitive and drive by the monotonous singing of the ‘captain’.

Conclusion: Rummelsnuff will probably never be successful in non-German speaking countries except if he would sing in English. It remains a funny project and one of the biggest music challenges from this scene, but after all these years the band is still alive.

Best songs: “Eindruck Schinden”, “Der Schrauber”, “Amundsen”, “Trägt Die Woge Dein Boot”.

Chief editor of Side-Line – which basically means I spend my days wading through a relentless flood of press releases from labels, artists, DJs, and zealous correspondents. My job? Strip out the promo nonsense, verify what’s actually real, and decide which stories make the cut and which get tossed into the digital void. Outside the news filter bubble, I’m all in for quality sushi and helping raise funds for Ukraine’s ongoing fight against the modern-day axis of evil. Besides music I’m also an SEO and AI content flow specialist and have an interest in everything finance from stocks to crypto. There is music in everything!

Background/Info: Ancient bodybuilder and ‘Captain’ of the crew aka Rummelsnuff joined hands with tenor baritone Asbach to create what they call ‘derbe Strommusik’ (translated ‘rough electric music’). The regular album features 14 songs while there also is a limited edition featuring an extra disc.

Content: Rummelsnuff remains one of the weirdest and yet kindest projects of this scene. I honestly never totally understood how an artist mainly dealing with a kind of ‘German folk’ and other ‘sailor songs’ could ever seduce underground music lovers. I guess the main reason is that Rummelsnuff is a great entertainer and simply the single artist in a music style, which is impossible to qualify, but catching the attention of EBM lovers.

This new opus doesn’t sound that different. With some imagination you can imagine this kind of music being played during the ‘Bierfesten’ or when watching the parade of a fanfare. You’ll also notice a more cinematographic style running through other cuts and a kind of body-pop approach later on.

Both singers are singing in German and even if you don’t understand German you clearly will feel the funny and crazy approach of the artists.

+ + + : Rummelsnuff never stops to take his fans by surprise. This guy is totally crazy, but you can feel he really enjoy what he’s doing and that’s something he masterly transposed into his music. “Rummelsnuff & Asbach” is an album that will make you smile and get you happy. Musically I clearly have a preference for the more electro-driven and pop-like songs.

– – – : You really need a good sense of humor to appreciate this kind of music, which clearly has less in common with the real electro-underground music. I can’t get away from the feeling that this artist is mainly recognized and praised in his homeland.

Conclusion: Rummelsnuff clearly remains the only ‘clown’ of the electro-underground scene. He’s laughing and joking, but most important he’s making people happy!

Best songs: “Helmut”, “Harzer Käse”, “Strassenbau”.

Rate: (7).
