Colombian EBM act Resistor returns with a powerful third album, marking their debut release under the Scanner label. Four years after their “Driving Force”-album, which was released on EK Product, Resistor delivers another solid entry rooted in classic EBM elements. The heavier tracks, driven by pure, old-school EBM basslines, are especially impactful and are sure to resonate with fans. While many of the songs feature Spanish lyrics, the title track stands out with its commanding German vocals, and other tracks are sung in English. Resistor doesn’t aim to reinvent the genre -something not typically expected in EBM, but with “Lieber Über Alles,” they’ve succeeded in refining their production, elevating the overall quality of their work. Out now via SkyQode is “Dval Canvas”, the third full-length album by the Colombian darkwave bands, Antiflvx.

The band says that ”’Dval Canvas’ is a journey through the duality of the human being, a journey through black and white, through lights and shadows, through love and pain. Seamlessly blending coldwave and darkwave, it weaves a spellbinding tapestry, enriched by the emotive depths of the somber vocals.”

The album comprises 12 tracks, including singles like “Manuscrito”, “Hilos”, “Hacia La Niebla”, and “Silueta de Luz”. In addition to the solo tracks, “Dval Canvas” features collaborations with Viviana Rodríguez (Agatha I), Camila Valencia (Ambivalencia), Eva Red (Red Apple Cvlt) and Ana Gartner.

Out on March 24th is “A Wound of Love”, a brand new single from Colombia’s coldwave / darkwave duo Antiflvx. “A Wound of Love” is another track taken from Antiflvx’s upcoming third album which will be released on SkyQode.

The track shows the band’s trademark approach of creating somber and melodic songs blending darkwave and synthpop. Apart from the title track, the single includes a non-album track “Manuscrito” and a remix by Expiring Time.

Out since May 28th is the download single “Hilos” by the Colombian coldwave / darkwave duo Antiflvx. It’s the band’s first release after signing with the fine electro label SkyQode in April.

“Hilos” is a brand new track taken off their upcoming third, as of yet untitled album, and showcases the duo’s signature melodic blend of coldwave and darkwave with emotional deep male vocals in English and Spanish. The single also features remixes by two Russian bands – X-Bat (darkwave / synthpop) and Monowaves (synthwave).

Genre/Influences: EBM.

Background/Info: Resistor is an EBM solo-project driven by Leonardo Jaime aka ‘Neuromancer’ and hails from Bogota (Colombia). I noticed Resistor previously released an EP (cf. “Breathe”) in 2015 on the excellent Black Leather Records. “Driving Force” is the official debut album featuring ten songs plus two remixes.

Content: There definitely is a match between Resistor and EK Product. The work is carried from start till the end by retro-influenced EBM. The songs are a bit cliché-like, featuring classical metallic percussion sounds and typical song structures, but there also is a kind of minimalism. The songs are mainly sung in English, but you’ll also notice a few Spanish lyrics. The songs are short and powerful. TourdeForce and AD:Key both have accomplished one remix each.

+ + + : If you’re into old-school EBM, this project definitely will get you to move your body! Resistor belongs to the classical EBM school and features a few cool songs. I especially like the kind of minimalism in the production, which also was a trademark from labels such as Black Leather Records and Black Montanas. This album reflects all the expected EBM power by its classical ingredients like metallic percussion, solid bass lines and vocals. Both remixes are adding a real bonus to the album.

– – – : The sound production is a bit compressed and that’s a pity. I think this is an important point to improve.

Conclusion: Resistor is an interesting addition to the EK Product roster and a must have for all EBM freaks.
