Genre/Influences: Minimal-electronics, experimental, industrial. Background/Info: Set up in 1994 as Kopfschuss and renamed as Psychedelic Headshot in 1995, this German project released a few cassettes and CDR’s. Inspired by 80s electronics we now welcome the new work (CDR) “Paradise Falls”, which is a mini-album featuring 6 tracks. Content: The experimental/minimal electronic format clearly reminds me of early 90s experiments from Germany. I especially remind Notstandskomitee, Das Kombinat and other related names. This work has something vintage-like, which you rapidly will hear in the analogue sweeps and icy sound treatments. I also noticed a few wave-pop elements. The songs have been sung in German although the vocals aren’t clearly the main focus of this work. + + + : This is the kind of electronic music I’m missing. It has a pure retro-feeling, but the minimal approach and global sound treatments have something refreshing. This is not a band that sounds like the ‘masses. It’s a well-crafted and raw-styled composition taking us back to the early years of underground electronics. The typical rhythm-box sounds and analogue sweeps will rapidly bring good-old memories alive. – – – : I don’t have real minus points, but just one regret; this band definitely deserves more attention and recognition. Conclusion: Psychedelic Headshot reminds us that electronic music can result from a creative process and a particular care to create unique sound treatments.
