Following the remarkable album “Last Outpost”, released earlier in 2025, French artist Bertrand Lachambre closed the year with a new release—his second album on Cryo Chamber and his third overall.

Primal Era Worship feels like a welcome outsider within the Cryo Chamber catalog. While the music is undeniably dark and Cinematic, it goes beyond the label’s usual aesthetic by incorporating additional elements. There are, for instance, rhythms and passages built around explicit electronic sequences, lending the album a more Experimental, Minimal-Electro character. At times, it even ventures into IDM-like territory. Despite these deviations, the overall atmosphere remains dark and at times obscure, carried by vintage-sounding textures.

“Narcomancer” stands out for its subtlety and overall sense of daring, which I find particularly appealing. To me, this release represents a further evolution in both sound and style, and it is a work I can highly recommend. (Rating:8½).

Primal Era Worship is a project I hadn’t encountered before. Apparently, a debut album was released in 2022, but with this new opus on Cryo Chamber, the project—spearheaded by Bertrand Lachambre—is bound to garner greater attention.

And rightly so, as this is a masterpiece, striking a flawless balance between Dark-Ambient and Cinematic soundscapes. The immersive and powerful production is immediately apparent and, at times, genuinely overwhelming. Beneath the surface, finely crafted electronic sequences intertwine with ominous drones, dark textures, and a wealth of layered effects, further intensifying the shadowy atmosphere. One standout track ventures into ritual territory, driven by tribal rhythms that enhance its hypnotic pull. Whispered voices and other enigmatic vocal elements are subtly woven throughout, adding to the album’s eerie mystique.

This is a magnificent release that brings both depth and diversity to the ever-impressive Cryo Chamber catalogue. (Rating:8)
