The synthpop act Projekt Ich, signed to Echozone, is back with a new single, “Mit dir”. With this release Projekt Ich aka Ulf Müller is going to release the ninth (!) single from his forthcoming second studio album which will be released via Echozone in Spring 2022.

Following his debut album “By Train Through Countries” (2019), Ulf took a short creative break before getting back to work again. He produced several demo songs to continue the debut album’s concept of cooperating with various singers from all over the world. This time Ulf worked with Magdalena Herfurtner (ex-Eycromon) from Madil Hardis.

“Mit dir” features the original track as well as 20 (!) genre crossing remixes by bands and artists like Kim Lunner (NO), Nature of Wires (UK), Patrik Kambo (SW), Dark Vanilla (DE), Mind:Code (DE), POS.:2 (DE), Blackened (CA), Elektrojudas (DE), Obsession of Time (SW), Steffrey Yan (CA), Elmodic (DE), Moyom (CA), Faltenhall (DE), Fingerprinted Cheese (ZA), Perpacity (US), V-nerV (DE), Retrograth (SW), Yan and Yellowfin (CA), Terrance Pryor (US) and U.M. Fiedel (DE), an instrumental remix version by Kim Lunner plus the original’s instrumental.

Genre/Influences: Electro-pop.

Background/Info: I personally consider Thorsten Krüger and Matthias Grod as one of the most promising electro-pop formations in the past few years. After an astonishing debut album (cf. “Now”) and the cool second opus (cf. “Circuits”) it took three years to the German formation to achieve this new work.

Content: The global sound production and influences haven’t really changed. Pos.:2 stands for ‘classical’ electro-pop music evoking some good-old souvenirs. The melodic- and danceable side of the work vaguely reminds me of Second Decay, which I still consider as a reference in the genre. The songs have been masterfully achieved. The previous album was missing some potential hits while the new work reveals a few great songs. “Electropop” is one of them, which clearly sounds as a reworked version from their early ‘hit’ “Only Electropop”. The main part of the vocals is in German, but you’ll also notice a few English passages.

+ + + : This album brings a perfect twist between danceable- and classical  electro-pop. The songs have been masterfully crafted and especially the melodic passages will catch the attention. This is an aspect reminding me a bit to Second Decay. This is synth-pop music that will appeal to lovers of German electro-pop from the 90s.

– – – : Pos.:2 doesn’t really innovate, but do they really have to? The result is a deeply entertaining electro-pop work.

Conclusion: This new opus was worth the wait and again confirms the talent of this duo. They definitely deserve a bit more recognition!

Best songs: “Kein Weg”, “Alleine”, “Electropop”, “Gib Mir Noch Zeit”, “Illusions Of Love”.

Genre/Influences: Synth-pop.

Background/Info: Thorsten Krüger and Matthias Grod took the electro-pop community by surprise in 2015 unleashing their successful debut album “Now”. The work revealed a classical, but well-crafted synth-pop format featuring several great songs and especially the hit “Only Electropop”. Pos.:2 are back on track unleashing a new opus with 13 songs.

Content: Pos.:2 compose stereotypical electro-pop music. There’s no real innovation in the format, but the production is accomplished with danceable kicks, catchy sequences, melodic and carrying choruses and Thorsten Krüger as the talented vocalist.

“Circuits” has a retro-like feeling, which reminds me of Syntec. The songs are well-crafted and always accomplished with the right melody line. Most of the lyrics have been sung in English, but there are also a few tracks sung in German.

+ + + : “Circuits” is a kind of reference when you think about electro-pop music. The sound formula sounds easy, but it’s not that simple to compose a majority of synth-pop songs driven by danceable vibes, featuring melody lines that you’ll keep in mind and lyrics you spontaneously start to sing together with the singer. “Circuits” is maybe missing a new “Only Electropop” although songs like “So Lonely” (previously released as EP-title song) and “Tonight” are both new potential hits. There are also a few softer cuts like the beautiful “I Wanna Be Free” featuring Jeannette. This is a beautiful song with male- and female vocals.

– – – : I already mentioned my only little ‘frustration’ about missing an absolute hit like there was one on “Now”. The slower songs aren’t my favorites (except “I Wanna Be Free”), but that’s just a question of taste.

Conclusion: After a successful debut work it’s not easy to confirm on the second album, but “Circuits” reveals an increased maturity in the global production. Pos.:2 definitely is a new rising talent in the electro-pop universe.

Best songs: “So Lonely”, “Tonight”, “I Wanna Be Free”, “I’m Waiting”, “Wie Im Traum”.

Genre/Influences: Synth-pop.

Content: This is one of the hottest synth-pop discoveries of the past few months. POS.:2 is a German duo, which has released 2 digital singles thus far.

The album features 12 songs plus 2 remixes. The first song clearly indicates what you might expect. There’s an ultra melodic approach in the writing of the songs and a real care to create great sound treatments. “Now!” is a real well-crafted piece of music carried by danceable rhythm patterns and uplifting choruses. POS.:2 perfectly know the way good synth-pop music has to sound like. I can’t say that the work is an emulation of the good-old synth-pop standards although a few songs remind me of OMD for the way of singing. Just pay attention for “Perfect Melody” to get an idea about any potential resemblance.

POS.:2 is not exactly reinventing synth-pop music, but they clearly inject a refreshing touch to the style. The songs are well-crafted and elaborate while remaining fully accessible through the strong melody lines. There’s no better song than “Only Electropop” to get an idea about the band’s potential. This song was previously released as digital single and reveals funny lyrics and a real captivating melody line, which you’ll easily keep in mind. This song is a big potential hit! Another potential hit is the previously mentioned “Perfect Melody”, which sounds catchy and once more driven by a solid melody line.

There’s no single song to throw away as “Now!” consists in a succession of great songs. “Friends” will possibly give you a kind of ‘happy’ feeling while “Dark Room” sounds a bit harder in sound. I also have to mention “Memories” (previously released as single) and “Am Limit” for its cool bleeps. The quiet and instrumental “I’m Falling” is a rather dreamy track to end. Notice by the way that most of the vocals have been sung in English, which will probably enlarge any possible popularity.

Both bonus tracks are remixes by Conscience and In Good Faith. It’s a nice gift to bring this album to its ultimate point, but the remixes can’t really compete with the originals songs.

Conclusion: I didn’t know what to expect from this new coming band, but I can assure you they really inject a fresh breeze to the electro-pop scene.

Best songs: “Only Electropop”, “Perfect Melody”, “Friends”, “No Time To Waste”, “Wohin?”
