Gitane Demone & Paul Roessler have just released the digital-only “The April First / Feather Remix EP” on Dark Vinyl Records. The four-track EP is available on Bandcamp and major streaming platforms and follows the duo’s 2023 album “The New Young Kings Of Midnight” with two remixes by Brent Heinze of Probe 7 and the original album versions of “April First” and “Feather”.

About Gitane Demone & Paul Roessler

Gitane DeMone (often styled Gitane Demone) is an American singer, musician and visual artist, born in San Francisco and musically rooted in Los Angeles, where she became known through work with deathrock and gothic rock group Christian Death after being active in Pompeii 99. From the late 1980s she developed a solo catalogue that blended punk, gothic rock, experimental music and jazz-inflected vocal styles, issuing recordings such as “A Heavenly Melancholy”, “Lullabies for a Troubled World”, “Am I Wrong?”, “Stars of Trash” and “The Reflecting Shadow”.

Her later projects include the Gitane DeMone Quartet with Rikk Agnew, Paul Roessler and Deb Venom, with releases like “Past the Sun” and “Substrata Strip”.

Roessler is an American keyboardist, composer and producer born in New Haven, Connecticut, long active in the Los Angeles punk and experimental scenes. He first gained visibility with electropunk band The Screamers before playing in groups including Twisted Roots, 45 Grave, Nervous Gender and projects with Nina Hagen, Pat Smear, Mike Watt and others. Alongside his performance work, he has built an extensive solo carreer with albums such as “Abominable”, “The Arc”, “Match Girl”, “The Turning of the Bright World” and the multi-part cycle “The Drug Years”. Roessler is also active as a producer and engineer at Kitten Robot Studios in Los Angeles.

The collaboration between DeMone and Roessler culminated in the joint album “The New Young Kings Of Midnight”, released on 8 December 2023 as a CD and digital set via Dark Vinyl.

With “The April First / Feather Remix EP”, DeMone and Roessler continue that collaboration by revisiting two key album tracks through the lens of Heinze’s Probe 7 remixes.

Alaska’s only goth rock duo, Cliff and Ivy, have launched their album “Sinister Stars”. It is their first release on vinyl, available on CD and all major digital platforms, including Bandcamp and Spotify. Thematically the album delves into creativity, love’s redemption, death, magic, and breaking free from oppression.

Cliff and Ivy have taken full advantage of their diverse recording environments, splitting production between their House of Extreme Darkness Studio in Anchorage, Alaska, and studios in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New Jersey.

(Photo by Karin Johansson) LA-based shoegaze psychedelic rockers Tombstones In Their Eyes are back with the single “I Like to Feel Good”. The single is the follow-up to the two earlier singles “Sweet as Pie” and “I’m Not Like That”. The singles preview the band’s new “Asylum Harbour” album, slated for release on November 19 via Kitten Robot.

Tombstones In Their Eyes is made up of long-time members John Treanor (vocals & guitar), Stephen Striegel (drums), Courtney Davies (vocals) , Phil Cobb (guitar) and Paul Boutin (guitar), along with new band members Joel Wasko (bass) and Clea Cullen (vocals).

Recorded at Kitten Robot Studios in Los Angeles and co-produced by John Treanor, this album was produced and engineered by Paul Roessler (TSOL, The Screamers, Nina Hagen), also known for his work with Josie Cotton, Hayley and the Crushers and Gitane Demone.

Tombstones In Their Eyes began a decade ago as a demo-swapping exercise between two childhood friends separated by geography (John Treanor in LA and James Cooper in NYC).

As of October 8, “I Like to Feel Good” is available everywhere online, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. The full “Asylum Harbour” album will be released on November 19.

Background/Info: “The New Young Kings Of Midnight” was released by the end of 2023 resulting from a collaboration between famous vocalist Gitane Demone and Paul Roessler (who played with multiple great Punk- and other artists). This is a work about ‘death, mourning, transience and farewell’ and dedicated to their two friends Rozz Williams (Christian Death) and Darby Crash (The Germs).

Content: We’re listening to an intimate and poignant work featuring at one side the mysterious, and unique, vocals of Gitane Demone and at the other side Paul Roessler’s delicate music, accomplished with mainly piano but also cello.

+ + + : When you know the album has been dedicated to two friends who passed away by suicide you can get an idea about the emotional content behind this production. Both artists are totally complementary; creating an artistic symbiosis between excelling vocals -and poignant lyrics, and melancholic music parts. I like the album for its sensitive format. Gitane Demone’s timbre of voice remains a very unique experience.

– – – : This is an album you’ve to discover in the right circumstances. This is not a bite-sized piece of music.

Conclusion: A work filled with emotion and devotion; an artistic fusion between vocals and acoustic instruments.

About Gitane Demone & Paul Roessler

Gitane Demone, former singer of Christian Death alongside Rozz Williams, teamed up with Paul Roessler, known for his work with 45Grave and the Gitane Demone Quartet, on “The New Young Kings of Midnight”. The album originated in 2017, when Demone asked Roessler to write orchestral music for a tribute to Williams, tracing his early life and rise to stardom before his death by suicide. Roessler, who had lost his friend Darby Crash of The Germs to suicide as well, joined her in exploring the theme through the two men’s unrealized potential and the idea of rebirth. After hearing Holst’s “The Planets” performed at the Hollywood Bowl and the debut of Daniel Bjarnason’s Violin Concerto, the pair wrote the orchestral pieces that became the album, released on Dark Vinyl at the end of 2023. Demone and Roessler followed it with the “The April First / Feather Remix EP”, also via Dark Vinyl, in February 2026.

The classically inspired album tackles about death, mourning, transience and farewell. The release is dedicated to Rozz Williams (Christian Death) and Darby Crash (The Germs).

The origins for this release can be found in 2017, when Gitane asked Paul to write orchestral music for a tribute she was writing for Rozz Williams, starting with his early life and his rise to goth stardom. When she brought up his suicide, Paul said, “This is something personal to me now, as I lost my dear friend Darby Crash to suicide as well.”

Together, Paul and Gitane explored the suicides: how they were affected, what Rozz and Darby could have accomplished had they lived (with such creative brilliance), the opportunities in life they missed by ending their lives, and rebirth.

Out now and available right here is the vinyl reissue of the self-titled debut album by Prick, which was an American industrial rock band signed to Trent Reznor’s Nothing Records imprint. The project was founded in 1992 in Los Angeles by guitarist and songwriter Kevin McMahon, after his first project Lucky Pierre disbanded. Pressed on vinyl for the first time, this very limited vinyl edition can be ordered right here.

The first line-up of the band featured McMahon on vocals and guitar, Chris Schleyer on guitar and Andy Kubiszewski (Exotic Birds and Stabbing Westward) on drums. The songs on the band’s debut were written from 1989 to 1992 by Kevin McMahon. He then recorded four demo songs with Trent Reznor, a longtime friend and a former Lucky Pierre member who found success with his new project, Nine Inch Nails.

These demo-songs were recorded in Reznor’s Le Pig studio and featured a re-recording of a track from Lucky Pierre’s 1988 “Communiqué” EP. After Reznor was fully immersed in the recording of Nine Inch Nails’ second album, “The Downward Spiral”, McMahon went to England to collaborate with British producer Warne Livesey. 8 songs were recorded after which the band signed to Nothing Records of Interscope, a vanity label founded by Reznor and former Lucky Pierre manager John Malm Jr..

In 1994, McMahon assembled a live band for this project. The new line-up featured Kevin McMahon on vocals and guitar, Chris Schleyer on lead guitar, Sebastien Monney on bass, Brian Kehew on keyboards and Sean Furlong on drums and performed under the name Riverhead in clubs in Los Angeles. Kehew eventually left the band after 3 shows and was replaced by Paul Roessler in late 1994 after which the band changed its name to Prick and released its debut 7-inch single, “Communiqué”, which was followed by the band’s self-titled debut album in 1995. The album would sell 66,000 copies.

The track “Animal” became a minor alternative radio hit and its music video, which you can see below, was released the same year.

Furlong and Roessler were fired from the band in 1995 while Garrett Hammond replaced Furlong on drums and Dave Ogilvie was hired for live programming. In 1996, McMahon moved to London to record a follow-up Prick’s debut album. Due to creative differences and McMahon’s reluctance in producing a more radio-friendly effort Prick was dropped from Nothing Records. In 2002, he released Prick’s second studio album, “The Wreckard”, independently through Lucky Pierre Music’s official website. At the same year, he assembled a new line-up for the Prick, consisting of Greg Zydyk on guitar, former Lucky Pierre member Tom Lash on bass and Andy Kubiszewski on drums. The band briefly performed in 2002 and 2003.

After that the band would only release “Boston Live” in 2009 via Lucky Pierre Music.

Genre/Influences: Gothic.

Background/Info: Gitane Demone (ex-Christian Death) is a legendary Goth artist I don’t have to introduce. “Past The Sun” is an album that has been composed as a ‘quartet’ featuring Paul Roessler, Deb Venom and Rikk Agnew (ex-Christian Death). “Past The Sun” is an album revealing 8 songs.

Content: Gitane Demone remains a unique experience. This Gothic diva has this particular, bewitching timbre of voice you’ll immediately recognize. She reflects passion, anger, sensuality and still has a kind of ritual expression. She’s a real blessing for a gothic formation.

And the music definitely sounds gothic-like. It’s filled with bombast and obscure atmospheres, but I also noticed some psychedelic passages. The last song is a surprising cover version of Suicide’s “Ghost Rider”. It’s meant as a bonus track while revealing more electronic arrangements.

+ + + : The main strength of this work definitely is to be the maturity of the production. Gitane Demone Quartet is a band driven by experienced and talented musicians fronted by one of the most charismatic singers in gothic history. The songs are particularly elaborate and reveal a kind of ‘free-goth’ expression. You’ll notice some experimental passages and other psychedelic parts. I also like the somewhat ritual approach on a few cuts (cf. “Circle Ov Air”, “Lorca”) and the totally crazy, but genius “Eva Braun” on, which Gitane Demone literally excels. Last, but not least the cover version of “Ghost Rider” is a pretty cool finale.

– – – : One of the only cuts that couldn’t totally convince me is the more experimental-minded “Standard Upright”.

Conclusion: “Past The Sun” is a passionate, diversified and fully accomplished production, which will for sure please all fans of Gitane Demone.

Best songs: “Eva Braun”, “Man Made God”, “Lorca”.
