Background/Info: Othello Aubern is a ‘new’ name active at the wider fields of experimental music. This Swiss-Italian artist is based in Omsk (Russia) and is interested in the exchange of Earth-Moon-Earth signals and in sound synthesis.

Content: The noises of signals, which are quite comparable with radio waves rapidly appears to be a sonic collage. Accompanied by some irregular rhythm patterns and industrial noises, “Two-Way Switch” stands for pure experimentalism. It’s the kind of record that might appeal for lovers of glitch.

+ + + : Othello Aubern is not the first one to experiment with this kind of ‘conceptual’ releases, but if you’re into such experiments this work clearly will ravish your expectations. This artist is closer to be a sonic scientist instead of a musician. He’s exploring the endless possibilities of noise/signals treatments, which he’s collecting and next transforming into a new sonic creation.

– – – : Experimental music has been always something apart and often hard to understand. This is the kind of work you can better avoid if you’re into ‘traditional’ music structures.

Conclusion: Othello Aubern reminds me of the legendary Staalplaat label, which was a reference in experimental- and conceptual music. This is pure underground music available on vinyl format as limited edition and on digital platforms.

Best songs: “Buffer Zone”.

Rate: (6).
