Cleopatra Records has gathered a group of electronic, rock and industrial artists to remix some of the only surviving recordings legendary occultist Aleister Crowley made. The historic wax recordings date back from 1910-1914 and are all featured on the brand new release “Black Magic”. Artists included in this project are Jozef van Wissem, Hawkestrel, Ritualz, Umberto, ∆AIMON, Neoslave, Ainoma, VV & The Void, Witch Of The Vale and Kill Shelter.

The album also features an all-new denoised and remastered collection of the original wax recordings.

In further news, a full-length biopic on Aleister Crowley, directed by The Cordero Brothers, is in the making. The screenplay is based on the Boleskine House where Crowley used to practice his ‘black magic’ rituals. The house, which was later purchased by Jimmy Page.

Background/Info: Neoslave is a Belgian solo-project set up in 2016 by Leander ‘Lee’ Verheyen. “Autoviolator” was released in 2019 (!) and is the second album by the artist.

Content: The album sounds in the purest tradition of the French Lazerdiscs Records. This is soundtrack music driven by heavy rhythms. Neoslave is mixing different elements next to the soundtrack approach. Some cuts are moving into pure psychedelia, reminding good-old guitar-synth experiments while other cuts are definitely harder, darker and related to EBM. While the main part of the album has something versatile although pretty astral and cinematographic-like, the last cuts of the album are harder and driven by EBM elements. Nearly all cuts are instrumental edits, but there are a few vocals featured.

+ + + : What I mainly like in this composition is the bass line running through a few cuts. Just pay attention to songs like “Greedy Little Eyes”, “Cross Of Fire” and “Take Back Control”. I however prefer the EBM touch running through “Bloodrave”, which is for sure the best cut from the album. This is cinematic music for further generations; a fusion between solid rhythms and retro-like synth lines.

– – – : This kind of production is truly a challenge, but clearly the kind of music for sci-fi computer games.

Conclusion: Welcome in the surreal universe of EBM transposed into computer games and other cinematographic experiences.
