(Photo by Jane Fotou) Greek post-punk, darkwave, and dark rock band Lefki Symphonia has announced the release of their sixth album, “Anthi Tis Siopis / Blossoms of Silence”, featuring ten new songs. Formed in 1984 in Athens, the band has released four albums, appeared in numerous compilations, and toured Greece, Spain, Romania, and Germany during their active years from 1986 to 2000.

The lyrics were penned by Theodoros Dimitriou, with “Fthinoporo” featuring poetry by Napoleon Lapathiotis and “Se Ena Filo” featuring poetry by Maria Polidouri. The music was composed by Theodoros Dimitriou, with “Anthi Tis Siopis” and “Kathe Apoheretismos” co-composed by Diogenis Chatzistefanidis. The album was arranged by Lefki Symphonia.

Lefki Symphonia comprises Theodoros Dimitriou (vocals), Kostas Mihalos (guitar), Diogenis Chatzistefanidis (bass), and Vangelis Tsimplakis (drums). The album was recorded, mixed, mastered, and produced by hector.d, with cover and artwork designed by Melanie Merges-Dimitriou.

The album is set to be released on April 28th in limited-edition white vinyl by Labyrinth of Thoughts Records and The Lab Records. A new video for the song “Anthi Tis Siopis / Blossoms of Silence” has been created by Melanie Merges-Dimitriou and is available for viewing on YouTube.

About Lefki Symphonia

Lefki Symphonia’s first album, “Mistiki Kipi / Secret Gardens”, was released in April 1986 through EMI. The band became the first Greek act to appear on MTV in 1988 with the song “Kitazontas Piso / Looking Back”. Over the years, they released several albums and singles, including the fifth album “San Ton Ilio / Like The Sun”, which was released on April 10th, 2020.

The new single and video for the song “Mi Zisis Mataia / Don΄t Live In Vain” were released on March 15th, 2023. The sixth album, “Anthi Tis Siopis / Blossoms of Silence,” is due for release on April 28th, 2023, by Labyrinth of Thoughts Records and The Lab Records.

(Photo by Jan Fotou) The new official video from the Greek post-punk act Lefki Symphonia, for the song “Me Mia Kravgi / With a Scream” is out now. The track originally appears on the band’s album “San ton ilio / Like the sun”. The video was shot and directed by Melanie Merges-Dimitriou.

Formed in February 1984 in Athens, Greece, Lefki Symphonia consists of Theodoros Dimitriou(vocals), Kostas Mihalos (guitar), Diogenis Chatzistefanidis(bass) and Vangelis Tsimplakis(drums).

Out now is the new single and official music video from the Greek post punk, dark wave act Lefki Symphonia: “Black Twilight”.

Lefki Symphonia formed in February 1984 in Athens, Greece and recorded four albums. Their first album titled “Mυστικοί Kήποι (Secret Gardens)” was released in April 1986 via EMI Greece. It was followed by a second album in August 1988 “Ηχώ Του Πόθου (Echo Of Desire)” for EMI Greece. They would become the first greek band to appear on MTV in 1988 with the video clip of the song “Κοιτάζοντας Πίσω (Looking Back)” a production of MTV, filmed in Athens.

In 1990 they moved to Berlin and lived there for almost three years, playing concerts mainly in Germany. They also recorded their third album “Λευκή Συμφωνία (Lefki Symphonia)” in Berlin.

In 1993, they returned to Greece and released a 12” EP titled “Θα Είμαι Εκεί (I Will Be There)” and the album “Λευκή Συμφωνία (Lefki Symphonia)” for Warner Music Greece. Οn May of the same year the band was struck by a true tragedy when their drummer Spyros Harisis, commited suicide at the age of 27.

In 1993, the band supported Metallica in Athens and toured in Greece and Germany. In June 1996 Lefki Symphonia released their fourth album titled “Χρώματα (Colours)” on FM Records and they basically toured constantly in Greece.

The band released their new 5th album in early 2020.

Background/Info: Λευκή Συμφωνία (Lefki Symphonia) is a Greek formation set up in 1984. Hailing from Athens the band was mainly active during the 80s and 90s. After a long silence the band struck back with a few singles to announce the new album.

Content: The main influence running through the album is clearly based around rock music. It’s a dark way of rock music, which is sometimes merged with gothic elements. One of the main particularities is the Greek singing, which is somewhat surprising for non-Greek listeners. The songs are driven by dynamic drum parts and mature guitar playing.

+ + + : No doubt about it, this band is for sure more popular in their homeland than abroad. But you can just see by discovering the artistic digipak of the CD format this band –and their labels, don’t spare any effort to get a professional artwork. And this professionalism comes back in the global production of the album. The guitar playing is professional and clearly one of the album’s main strengths. It’s quite similar for the drum sections injecting some extra dynamic to the work. The title song is a well-crafted song and definitely an absolute attention grabber, which reminds me somewhat of U2. The song is characterized by an alluring chorus, which appears to be one of the band’s trademarks.

– – – : I would be really wondering how this band would sound with English lyrics. One thing is for sure, it could catch the attention of an international audience. I however can’t say this album sounds like a successful ‘rock’-driven production; it’s easy listening music, but nothing groundbreaking.

Conclusion: Speaking for myself this album made me discover a band from the Greek rock scene, but I can’t say I was totally convinced.

Best songs: “Σαν Τον Ήλιο”, “Μαύρο Φως”.

Lefki Symphonia, the new wave / gothic rock band formed in 1984 in Athens, Greece, is back. The new single “Mehri Ton Thanato” (Until Death) and the official video for that single are out now and a 5th album is due for release in February 2020. It will be the first new album since 1996.

5 albums in over 36 years

Lefki Symphonia has only released 4 albums since they formed in 1984, with a 5th one being announced now. Nevertheless, they appeared in numerous compilations and toured Greece, Spain, Roumania and Germany during the period 1986-2000.

The band’s first album “Mistiki Kipi” (Secret Gardens), was released in April 1986 via EMI. It brought them to Spain where they played two concerts in Barcelona during the Biennale in 1987 and they also participated in the Biennale album with “I Vrohi Pefti Dinata” (The Rain Is Falling Hard).

The second album “Iho Tou Pothou” (Echo Of Desire) was released in 1988, again via EMI and scored them a video on MTV in 1988 with “Kitazondas Piso” (Looking Back), thus becoming the first greek band to appear on MTV. In 1990 the bandmembers moved to Berlin and recorded their 3d album “Lefki Symphonia”.

In June 1996 Lefki Symphonia released their fourth album “Hromata” (Colours) via FM Records followed by a tour through Greece. But this couldn’t prevent the band to break up in 1997. But now they are back.
