Background/Info: Kreda is an Anglo-Slovenian trio. Two of the members, Mina Spiler (singer) and Matevž Kolenc (composer) have been involved with their legendary compatriots from Laibach for quite some years now. The third member is the British artist Alastair McNeill. “Crest” is the band’s debut work featuring four songs.

Content: Kreda claims to compose leftfield-pop, which is easily recognizable for the down tempo format.  But there are multiple influences running through this work. There’s a kind dreamy sensation mixed with experimental elements. Especially both last songs remind me a bit of Björk. But the music also has something mind-boggling, which mainly comes through at “The Overlay”. The songs are characterized by the delicate, sensual and sweet vocals of Mina Spiler.

+ + + : Mina Spiler’s timbre of voice and vocal skills have something bewitching. She injects a real spirit into the work. Sound-wise I like this composition for its minimalism and own approach. It creates a deeply artistic style, which mainly comes through at the aforementioned “The Overlay”.

– – – : The EP is maybe missing a real apex, but I’m really wondering how their further works will sound like.

Conclusion: Kreda is hard to define, but the sound is intriguing and definitely into a real artistic approach.
