Genre/Influences: Acid, Techno, IDM, EBM.

Format: Digital.

Background/Info: This work resulted from the collaborative efforts between Romina Cohn (Argentina) and Naiborg (a project which also worked together with DJ Hell). These are two separate releases; first there was the EP “Acid Call” featuring four songs and next the EP “Acid Call Rmx” featuring five remixes.

Content: The original work sounds like modern Technoid-Acid music; pretty underground driven with minimalistic sound treatments and touching ground with IDM and even EBM. The sterile timbre of voice of Romina Cohn reminds me of 80s Electro-Wave projects and has this magical touch. Remixes have been accomplished by Julien Mercier, Back To The Wave, Jauzas The Shining and Final Grll (2 remixes).

+ + + : I really love the minimalism of the original “Acid Call”-songs bringing different influences together; definitely acid and techno-like but also IDM and Electro-Wave. The vocals are adding a true extra to the production and makes it accessible for a wider audience. This music is going to make you dance to trance.

– – – : The remixes are cool and adding diversity compared to the original edits but without the similar acid magic.

Conclusion: Great, modern, Acid-Techno vibes with an 80s touch on top.

Best songs: “Dance To Forget U”, “Your Soul”, “Kiss Me I Want To Make Love” + “Kiss Me I Want To Make Love – Back From The Wave Remix”.

Rate: 8.

Genre/Influences: Minimal-Electro, EBM, Techno-Body.

Format: Digital.

Background/Info: Romain Jauzas aka Jauzas The Shining is a very prolific artist. He already moved back to Space Factory to release earlier this year “Dark Mirror” featuring four new cuts.

Content: The French artist doesn’t really repeat himself and tries to accentuate a few different influences on each work. His work remains however contaminated by Minimal-Electro, EBM and Techno music. On “Dark Mirror” he reminds me a bit of early Front 242 and their debut album “Geography”. It’s all about the great analogue sounds, which are carried by a slow, danceable cadence. You’ll also notice a few vocal parts, which are now spoken-like and then mixed in the background creating a foggy effect.

+ + + : I like this production for its magic sound treatments; pure vintage and definitely appealing for 80s lovers. The title-song is a very good exposure of this retro-futuristic approach. I also have to mention “Consumed” driven by a solid bass line in the purest EBM tradition.

– – – : The EP features 4 different cuts, which is pretty cool although the last song (cf. “Inertie”) sounds like an antithesis to the other tracks.

Conclusion: Jauzas The Shining remains faithful to his beloved style and influences, but this is a noticeable work for its extra vintage impression.

Best songs: “Dark Mirror”, “Consumed”, “Radar”.

Rate: 7½.

Genre/Influences: Minimal-Electro, EBM, Ambient-Electro.

Format: Digital.

Background/Info: French producer Romain Jauzas has released an impressive number of productions over the past ten years. “Immersion”’ has been released late 2020 on Space Factory and features four songs.

Content: Both debut tracks reveal a somewhat inhibited sound, creating a kind of Ambient-EBM production. The second cut also features some Acid-inspired sequences. Both last cuts are a little harder, but driven by a slow tempo. You’ll hear some pitched vocals (possibly samplings) creating a ghost-like effect, which creates a perfect twist with the songs

+ + + : I like the debut track “Intelligencer” for its subtle mix of EBM and Ambient, but right at the point you think the EP will really break through, the artist prefers to achieve an intimate production. And I have to admit the mix between extreme opposite influences like EBM and Ambient is something exciting; a kind of Cinematographic sound for the further generations. I however prefer both last cuts, which are more danceable although this is not exactly what I would call ‘club-music’. This EP is a challenge, but I like artists daring to try different things.

– – – : I’m missing at least one ‘harder’ cut, which could set dancefloors on fire.

Conclusion: “Immersion” sounds like a personal and intimate production, getting EBM a bit more sensible.

Best songs: “Soumission”, The Sanctuary Of Imaginary”.

Rate: (7).

Genre/Influences: Minimal-electro.

Format: Digital.

Background/Info: Victoria Lukas and Jauzas The Shining move on withtheir collaborative efforts, which already resulted in a few releases. After the “Multiple”-EP released last year, this new work is their second production released by the French label Space Factory.

Content: “Scrutinizing You” features 4 tracks, which clearly are still a deeper exploration of the project’s minimal electro path. The songs are composed with retro sound treatments while driven by a slow cadence. It totally fits with the half spoken production of the (female) vocals. Both last songs –featuring the title track, are more evasive and reveal a mysterious sphere.

+ + + : I still like the minimalism of the composition and the magic emerging from the vintage sound treatments. The vocals together with the slow tempo both also inject a sensual touch to the work. I especially like the opening track “Where Have You Been”.

– – – : This EP is missing a real highlight. The sphere has something monotone and sound even a bit surprising for the Space Factory roster.

Conclusion: After having listened to “Multiple” I got the feeling there’s more potential hiding in this project. Unfortunately “Scrutinizing You” doesn’t really convince me.

Best songs: “Where Have You Been”.

Rate: (6).

Genre/Influences:
Minimal-electro,
electroclash, experimental.

Background/Info: Victoria Lukas and Jauzas The Shining have
already released previous EP’s together. “Multiple” is their newest collaborative
work and the first one released by David Carretta’s label Space Factory.

Content:
The
EP features 4 cuts opening with the minimal-electro like “Follow Me”, which
reminds me a bit of Miss Kittin & The Hacker. “Follow Me” can be considered
as the main song, the other songs left revealing a more experimental approach.
The lyrics are half spoken-like.

+
+ + : The minimal format of the opening track evokes good-old souvenirs, but
it also is a successful song featuring fine, bleeping sequences and sexy female
vocals. The main strength of this record is the care for great sound treatments
and the multiple effects. The sensual way of singing –and sometimes half spoken
from Victoria Lukas adds a hot touch to the work.

–
– – : I regret the entire tracklist doesn’t sound in the vein of “Follow Me”.
The other cuts are a little bit too experimental-like.

Conclusion:
“Multiple”
is an EP that will ravish lovers of great sound treatments and effects. I’m
however convinced this duo has the potential to do better.

Best
songs: “Follow Me”.

Rate:

Outside the news filter bubble, I’m all in for quality sushi and helping raise funds for Ukraine’s ongoing fight against the modern-day axis of evil.
