Background/Info: Indie Moon is the meeting between two singers established in Paris (France) and fans of 80s electronic music. Frédéric Bourreau and Elise Drilhon are now active since 2017 and have unleashed their debut album this year.

Content: We can easily speak about an ode to some 80s new/electro-wave hits as this album features 10 cover versions. You’ll discover 3 Depeche Mode covers while the others are covering Tears For Fears, Visage, Yazoo, Taxi Girl, The Stranglers and Elliot Barett. Indie Moon has adapted the original versions into rather intimate, electronic versions. A few more musicians contributed to the work while both singers perform on the album.

+ + + : I especially like the intimate atmosphere running through the work and some passages, which are more into minimalism. Both singers are talented, but I’m especially impressed by Elise Drilhon when she sings “Don’t Go” from Yazoo. If you know Alison Moyet’s powerful timbre of voice you’ll have to agree it’s not an easy song to sing. The song “No More Heroes” from The Stranglers is the one on which Indie Moon convinced me the most.

– – – : I’m not saying that it becomes boring to discover albums filled with 80s covers, but it’s no longer a surprise. The vocals are good, but some music arrangements are a little less naïve.

Conclusion: No doubt about it, this is the kind of formation that will be more appealing on stage instead of releasing discs with cover versions. It however remains a way to celebrate and remember some essential songs from the new-wave era.

Best songs: “No More Heroes”, “Lie To Me”, “Don’t Go”.
