UPDATE: We wrongly published that the David Tibet album reissue of “Ferelith” came in 2 versions. In fact there are no two versions, but 2 different albums, the second being “Fontelatus”. The text has been adapted.

(Photo via Discogs) Out on April 30th is a reissue of the 2020 David Tibet (Current 93) albums “Ferelith” and “Fontelatus”. Originally released by Cashen’s Gap, House of Mythology now re-issues both albums.

The releases come in two different vinyl editions, the first is a transparent marbled vinyl (111 copies), the second version is a clear and black marbled vinyl.

The “Ferelith” album has a printed insert on Japanese style paper and a small card, with the album’s cover on one side, and the name of the album on the other side. Each card is hand signed by David Tibet.

This is the first and 2nd part in a series of 5 releases. Note that every single track is untitled and this on all 5 of the albums.

About David Tibet

David Tibet is a British poet and artist who founded the music group Current 93, of which he is the only full-time member. He was given the name “Tibet” by Genesis P-Orridge, and in January 2005 he announced that he would revert to the name David Michael, although he continues to use the well-known “Tibet” in his public career to date.

Early in his career, he collaborated with Psychic TV and 23 Skidoo. Tibet left Psychic TV in 1983 and founded Current 93 the same year. He has worked with Steven Stapleton of Nurse With Wound (of which band he is a member), Michael Cashmore, Douglas P. (of Death in June, on whose albums he has appeared several times), Steve Ignorant of Crass (using the name “Stephen Intelligent”), Boyd Rice, Little Annie, Björk, Nick Cave, Rose McDowall, Tiny Tim, Annabella Lwin (of Bow Wow Wow) and Ian Read of Fire and Ice.

Tibet is more recently also part of a project called Nodding God, whose debut album, “Play Wooden Child”, was released in 2019. Tibet provided the vocals for this album, singing in the Akkadian language. Nodding God also features Andrew Liles, and an anonymous artist credited as the “Underage Shaitan Boy”.

Fire + Ice have signed a comprehensive deal including their full catalogue with Auerbach Tonträger. The project formed by British neofolk veteran Ian Read, who is also well known for his work with Death In June, Sol Invictus, and Current 93 will announce further news in due time.

As a first step in this collaboration, original Fire + Ice pressings as well as associated releases from Ian Read’s own imprint Fremdheit can now be obtained via Auerbach.

About Fire + Ice

Fire + Ice were created by Ian Read in 1992. Ian Read was a major contributor to the development of the neofolk genre. He performed on several of the scene’s formative albums such as Death In June’s “Brown Book” (1987), Current 93’s “Swastikas for Noddy” (1988), and Sol Invictus’ “Against The Modern World” (1987). Sol Invictus he had even co-founded with Tony Wakeford in 1987, who continued the band after Ian Read left to start his own project Fire + Ice.

With his own creative outlet, Read has ever since explored themes surrounding magic, myth, and mysteries, which are often associated with Germanic or Northern mythology, Odin, runes, and English history. Fire + Ice consider themselves as a genuine continuation of the Britsh Folk music and represent an original poetic expression of its traditions based on Ian Read’s own mystical vision and deep immersion in occult lore.

About Auerbach Tonträger

Auerbach Tonträger are an international label that was founded by its owner Martin Koller to offer a dedicated home and long-term collaborations to bands from the neofolk spectrum in the year 2003. Prominent singings include Sol Invictus, Orplid, and Spiritual Front.

Auerbach Tonträger are part of the Prophecy Productions label family under the umbrella of the independent media group SPKR.

The album was remastered for this vinyl reissue and you’ll find such contributions by Michael Cashmore (Current 93, Nature and Organization), Mee, Alice Karlsdottir, Richard Leviathan (Ostara), Michael Moynihan (Blood Axis), and Annabel Lee (Blood Axis, ex-Amber Asylum).

For those too young to know this band, Fire & Ice is an English Neofolk band founded by Ian Read in 1991. Before that he had joined Tony Wakeford’s Sol Invictus in 1987 along with Karl Blake. Read recorded three albums and an EP with Sol Invictus before leaving to form the band Fire + Ice.

It has been rather quiet around Read since “Birdking” was released. He did collaborate with a few bands. You could for example hear Read on the “Erde” LP by Forseti, the single “Dygel” by Sonne Hagal and the album “Wampyricon” by the gothic rock project Wampyre ShadowWolf by Magus Wampyr Daoloth. Both Ian Read and the Fire + Ice project have been criticised to be on the extreme right side of the Neofolk scene although he has always denied this.

Here’s the title song “Birdking”:

Chief editor of Side-Line – which basically means I spend my days wading through a relentless flood of press releases from labels, artists, DJs, and zealous correspondents. My job? Strip out the promo nonsense, verify what’s actually real, and decide which stories make the cut and which get tossed into the digital void. Outside the news filter bubble, I’m all in for quality sushi and helping raise funds for Ukraine’s ongoing fight against the modern-day axis of evil. Besides music I’m also an SEO and AI content flow specialist and have an interest in everything finance from stocks to crypto. There is music in everything!
