To celebrate the 10th anniversary of cult horror hit “The Human Centipede (First Sequence)”, the motion picture music score by the composer-duo Savage & Spies (Patrick Savage and Holeg Spies) and is released for the very first time. It’s not the first time the duo composed a filmscore, they also collaborated on “The Outsider” for instance or “Hex”.

The OST holds 10 electro-acoustic tracks and is being released on yellow vinyl as you can see.

About “The Human Centipede (First Sequence)”

The Human Centipede (First Sequence) is a 2009 Dutch horror film written, directed and co-produced by Tom Six. The film tells the story of a deranged German surgeon who kidnaps three tourists and joins them surgically, mouth to anus, forming a “human centipede”. It stars Dieter Laser as the creator of the centipede, Josef Heiter, with Ashley C. Williams, Ashlynn Yennie and Akihiro Kitamura as his victims.

According to Six, the concept arose from a joke he made with friends about punishing a child molester by stitching his mouth to the anus of a “fat truck driver”. Inspiration also came from Nazi medical experiments carried out during World War II, such as the crimes of Josef Mengele at the Auschwitz concentration camp.

When approaching investors prior to filming, Six did not mention the mouth-to-anus aspect of the plot, fearing it would put off potential backers. Financiers did not discover the full nature of the film until completion.

Two sequels, titled “Full Sequence” and “Final Sequence”, also written and directed by Six, were released in 2011 and 2015, respectively. The entire trilogy was compiled into a single film in 2016, titled “Complete Sequence”, which Six described as a “movie centipede” due to each Sequence leading into its successor while simultaneously working as a separate standalone film.

After more than 10 years dedicated to compose music for films (the best known are “The Human Centipede” and “The Outsider” starring Oscar-winner James Caan), Holeg Spies have just released a new album, “Axis Mundi”. For this album Holeg based the music on two immersive journeys among the Hopi tribe in Arizona and the noamds in the steppes of Mongolia.

“Axis Mundi” also gave Holeg the opportunity to invite some of his friends to contribute. As a result we find British-Australian violinist Patrick Savage, French guitarist Thierry Gotti and the Japanese percussionist Yasushi Yamazaki back on this album.

Holeg Spies is one of the forerunners of electronic music in France and was part of the very first generation that was won over by techno music. Over the years the project released material on several labels, from Universal Japan, Polygram, over Cleopatra to Vitalic’s Citizen Records and Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto Records.

The French cinematic-electro band Olowex has joined up with the Icelandic vocalist Disa to distil a unique new version of her original song “Beautiful ones”.

“Beautiful Ones” was originally released late 2016, but Disa has now teamed up with french electro duo Olowex, to make a new version of her latest single “Beautiful Ones” which adds another layer to the song.

Disa: “Olowex frame the feeling of the song perfectly, dark and driven, empowering, like a dream you have taken control of.”

At the heart of Olowex are film composer Holeg Spies, best known for his duo Savage & Spies (“The Human Centipede”, “The Outsider” etc…), and Yannis Kamarinos, electro composer and producer, notably acclaimed for his Giorgio Moroder remixes. About the collaboration Holeg says: “Sharing ideas about Olowex musical developments, Shelly Poole (co-writer of Beautiful Ones) introduced me to Disa. Yannis and I fell in love with Disa’s voice. We decided to collaborate on new songs. Meanwhile this remix was a way to quickly respond to the excitement of working together.”

And while we are at it, we asked Holeq what he has been doing for the past few years: “For the past decade I focussed on composing for films and needed a break from the electro scene I have been involved in since 93. The flame and passion are back again with Olowex !”
