Genre/Influences: Experimental, technoid, ambient, IDM.

Format: Digital, Vinyl.

Background/Info: His Master’s Voice is the solo-project of German producer Jaines Bomt. A few EP’s have been previously released and among them “Sirius Incident” (2017). I refer to this EP because the album is inspired by an imaginary trip to Sirius.

Content: The least I can say is that this album is a sonic voyage and you rapidly seize the astral dimension created by the artist. The work is mixing different electronic styles together. There for sure is a solid ambient element emerging, but there also is a techno approach running through other cuts. Some passages become darker and even revealing industrial sound treatments. Other parts are more sophisticated and closer to IDM. The last songs are characterized by a slow tempo and explicit ambient structures.

+ + + : This is the kind of production where open-minded electro lovers will for sure find something to their taste. The songs are diverse, but always revealing an intelligent approach in the sound treatments and the mix of influences. I’ve a preference for the minimal- and somewhat experimental techno approach revealed at “The Healer”. The IDM-minded “Interim” is also worthy of examination. Another noticeable cut is “Abandon” for its great synth sounds. Other attention grabbers like “60km Distance Call” and “Blossom” will appeal for ambient fans. I noticed great , vibrating bass sounds while the slow driven tempo gets the tracks more accessible.

– – – : It’s not that easy to find a thread in this work, which sometimes creates the feeling of listening to a compilation.

Conclusion: His Master’s Voice has accomplished an interesting and definitely original album, but still a Chinese puzzle when it comes to label this work.

Best songs: “The Healer”, “60km Distance Call”, “Interim”, “Abandon”.

Rate: (7).
