Belgian EBM act CauseNation is set to release “The Remix Collection” on September 6th, 2024. This new compilation, out via the Antwerp based DressCode Black label, features a lineup of remixes that re-imagine some of CauseNation’s tracks.

On remix duty we find Vomito Negro, Novakill, Darkvolt, First Aid 4 Souls, Nova State Machine, Enzo Kreft, Cirque d’Ess and VV303.

“The Remix Collection” is already available on Bandcamp and will be available on all major platforms, including Spotify, starting September 6th, 2024.

CauseNation is based in Antwerp and was formed in 2015 by Vain Sacrosanct, Dries De Vreeze, and Jonas Herrnia. The band made its debut with the single “The Things You Promise” which was mixed and mastered by Claus Larsen.

Background/info: Jonas Cornelissen is a Belgian drummer who got interested in Electronic music and progressively started to compose Electro songs. He released several albums on cassette format and finally came to select twelve songs for his CD-debut “Takkewereld” released by the end of 2021 by Wool-E Discs.

Content: HerrNia deals with an Electronic sound remixing formations from the 80s like the Human League, but also Belgian formations like Aroma Di Amore (for the Dutch singing) and even Arbeid Adelt. Vintage Electro-Wave sound treatments have been intermixed with harder EBM influences. 

+ + + : HerrNia is a true discovery. It’s a band with a unique approach, mixing retro-Electro with a strong 80s exposure together with a personal touch mainly emerging from the songs with Dutch vocals. The
Electro-Wave – EBM fusion is working and resulting in attention grabbers like “My Dear Dark Cloud”, “Moeilijk”, “Above The Water” and “Niet Echt”. Herrnia doesn’t reinvent any style, but injects modernism into the good-old Electro-Wave style.

– – – : A few aspects of the production maybe need some extra elaboration and/or production, but globally speaking “Takkewereld” is a nice surprise.

Conclusion: HerrNia stands for the Belgian resurrection of Electro-Wave; an interesting album deserving more recognition.

Background/Info: This compilation featuring 26 bands is a way to remember the great W-Fest (festival) that took in place this Summer in Belgium. The festival was spread over 4 days, 3 scenes and featured an impressive number of bands. The organization invited some legendary 80s artists next to contemporary groups.

Artists: Parade Ground, A Split Second, Simi Nah, Dive, Suicide Commando, TB Frank & Baustein, Vine La Fête, A Slice Of Life, Flesh & Fell, Doganov, Red Zebra, The Breath Of Life ao.

Content: The first CD is clearly devoted to different kinds of electronic underground music. Parade Ground and A Split second will Takes us back in time with some legendary 80s songs while the electro-pop & minimalism of other bands such as Simi Nah, Enzo Kreft, Vive La Fête reveal contemporary 80s inspired sounds. It also is a way to rediscover some living legends such as Dive and Suicide Commando plus smaller bands such as Mildreda, Pro Patria, Herrnia.

The second disc brings us a mix of ‘old’ and contemporary gothic/new-wave. Red Zebra is a band we all know in Belgium, and which remains one of our best 80s ambassadors. A Slice Of Life could be the next big thing from Belgium. Here again you’ll discover very diversified groups moving from Ground Nero to Flesh & Fell, from Doganoc to The Breath Of Life etc.

+ + + : This is a fully enjoyable compilation, bringing different genres and especially music decades together. It also is a way to realize Belgium has a real great underground scene.

– – – : I just regret there aren’t more ‘exclusive’ tracks featured on the album, but it remains first of all a way to promote a great festival, already announced for 2019!

Conclusion: After the terrible lost of the Eurorock festival, Belgium moves on with a new ‘big fest’: W-Fest.
