Upstate New York’s dreamgaze act Dotsun Moon has unveiled the “Moments In The Sun” EP, alongside the video for “Army of Me“. The four-track collection weaves shoegaze and dreampop textures with introspective lyricism.

Based in Buffalo, Dotsun Moon is the project of Richard Flierl, a multi-instrumentalist and producer who has been shaping the band’s sound since its 2011 debut album 4″ A.M.”. The new EP was recorded and mixed with Doug White at Watchmen Studios in Lockport, NY.

The lead track “Army of Me” begins with a minimalist piano motif reminiscent of Erik Satie before evolving into a layered soundscape with shimmering guitars and dense textures. Flierl explains, “During difficult times, it takes all one’s effort to push outward and connect with someone or else succumb to the isolation that so much of society has compounded with technology. Use that same tech to make personal connections. If a person just hopes without acting, they are ‘staring in the sun.'”

Each track on “Moments In The Sun” reflects themes of self-awareness, love, and resilience. The closing piece, “Piano Trailer 5”, pays homage to Harold Budd and his collaborations with Brian Eno.

Flierl describes the EP as one that rewards patience and depth: “This is not for the casual listener and I mean that in the best of ways. Listen to these songs at least two or three times and let them sink in. These songs take a slower pace to help the lyrics resonate. Weather and love, for another or oneself, are the common themes between these songs.”

Earlier in 2025, Dotsun Moon released the full-length album “Tiger”, signaling a shift toward Flierl’s own vocals after years of collaborations with guest singers. That record’s singles – “Save Us”, “Never Had a Heart”, “Bring Love”, and “Give Up The Tears” – were each accompanied by self-produced videos.

The “Moments In The Sun” EP is available now on Bandcamp, Spotify, and other streaming platforms.
