Genre/Influences: EBM, Body-Pop.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: This EP is an addition to the “Resist”-EP by Dimitri Berzerk. “Resist” has been released in different formats, this extra EP bringing all different remixes together as a kind of compilation.

Content: The EP features a total amount of 20 songs including the 6 remixes from the download card, which was available together with the vinyl format. You’ll get 10 edits of the “Ctrl+Als+Del”-song, which clearly is the ‘hit’ of Dimitri Berzerk featuring Claus Larsen as the singer. The song remains driven by a solid EBM bass line and a catchy chorus with passionate vocals on top.

Remixes have been made by Neuvision, Die-Go, Hooverlordz, cid project, SFX DJ, Fire Walkers, Rebel Empire, Substaat, FortLeben (3x), Larva + JP90, Dramatic, Delectro, Judas 12, Eloquent, Rasec, Neroconcret, JP90 and Delete.

+ + + : It’s especially cool to get the remixes from the download card of the vinyl now released on CD. I still like the main song of the EP, which is a true sonic fusion between classical EBM and a catchy chorus. There’s real chemistry between Dimitri Berzerk and Claus Larsen. Among the different remixes I once again salute the great job done by Cid Project who injected a terrific extra sound to the song while the Cold-Wave and totally reworked edit by Dramatic is phenomenal.

– – – : I’m still not convinced by a few songs like the cover version of Nena and the song “Endurance” although there are worse B-sides.

Conclusion: “Resist” has been released in all imaginable formats –maybe except cassette, so time for another great work by Dimitri Berzerk!

Best songs: “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Cid Project Remix”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Dramatic Rework”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Orange Sector Remix”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – C-Lekktor Remix”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Neuvision Remix”.

Rate: (8).

Genre/Influences: EBM, Body-Pop.

Format: Digital, CD, Vinyl.

Background/Info: We all know Dimitri Berzerk as a ‘remixer’ and also as a label owner. He recently also started releasing his own stuff, taking off with the single/EP “My Love Is Electric” featuring Franco Doglioli. He last year struck back with a new EP featuring Claus Larsen (Leather Strip) as a guest singer. “Resist” has been released in different formats and reveals some differences in the tracklists.

Content: “Resist” sounds much more EBM-driven than “My Love Is Electric”. Claus Larsen sings on two songs injecting his enraged way of singing on top of efficient EBM songs with some catchy choruses. Next to these songs you’ll hear more new songs including a surprising cover version of Nena’s “Just A Dream” featuring the childish-like vocals of Mexican guest singer Pamuk.

The EP also features remixes by Orange Sector, C-Lekktor, SFX DJ, Bishop UPG and Technomancer feat. Angst Pop. As bonus tracks we get more remixes by Cid Project, Substaat, Larva + JP90, Delectro, Dramatic and Fortleben.

+ + + : Dimitri Berzerk deals with a well-crafted and efficient EBM format; solid EBM bass lines and somewhat catchy choruses. Claus Larsen brings his great and passionate vocals giving an extra boost to the songs. Both songs featuring Claus Larsen are the best ones, but I also have to mention the powerful remix of Orange Sector and another one by C-Lekktor. Among the bonus remixes you’ll find at the CD and vinyl I especially recommend the divine remix of the title song by Cid Project. There’s an irresistible, blasting sound running through the remix. And there also is a surprising Cold-Wave styled remix by Dramatic with the input of another singer. Last, but not least I also want to say a word about the great digipak of the CD and the green picture disc of the vinyl format.

– – – : The cover version of Nena is an original, but not exactly the most convincing cut. Another song that couldn’t totally convince me is the somewhat electro-Punk driven “Endurance”, which is the other song with Claus Larsen singing.

Conclusion: “Resist” is definitely more convincing than the previous EP so I think this artist is progressively ready to release a full length album!

Best songs: “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Single Version feat. Claus Larsen”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Cid Project Remix”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Dramatic Rework”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Orange Sector Remix”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – C-Lekktor Remix”.

Rate: (8½).

Background/Info: Colombian DJ and producer Diego Diaz claims to be inspired by 80s electronics, EBM bass lines and techno music. He already released a few EP’s and now strikes back with this EP featuring 13 remixes and alternate versions of the title song.

Content: “Mueve Tu Cuerpo” is driven by a solid EBM sequence, some sexy female groaning plus a few male spoken words. The song makes me think of Liaisons Dangereuses ‘on speed’.

Remixes have been accomplished by an impressive list of artists. Adriano Canzian, Cute Heels, Equitant, Tony Verdi, Azlack, Tkuz, Inaki Kreator & Iñigo Díaz, Resistor, Alquimista and Raul Parra (remixing 2 songs) have been asked to accomplish the remixes. They all add a very personal touch, which however remains strongly carried by the techno-body style of the original edit. The last song is a “Radio Edit” of “Mueve Tu Cuerpo”.

+ + + : “Mueve Tu Cuerpo” is the perfect title song for an EP. It’s an efficient piece of pure techno-body stuff, which will ravish the truest body fans and dark-techno freaks. I especially like the link with the 80s electro-wave & EBM reminding me of Liaisons Dangereuses.

Among the remixes I noticed great contributions by Equitant and Tony Verdi, and also cool remixes by Andriano Canzian, Raul Parra and Azlack. The mix of techno and EBM remains pretty minimal, danceable and vintage-like.

– – – : The only point of discussion is the endless number of remixes. Even if they’re pretty diversified, they more seem to be stuff for DJ’s who this way can choose their favorite version/remix.

Conclusion: “Mueve Tu Cuerpo” definitely sounds like sonic food for the dancefloors. This is the sound of modern techno-body music made in Colombia: hot and danceable!

Best songs: “Mueve Tu Cuerpo – Tony Verdi Remix”, “Mueve Tu Cuerpo – Equitant Remix”, “Mueve Tu Cuerpo – Original Mix”, “Mueve Tu Cuerpo – Adriano Canzian Remix”.

Rate: (8).

Background/Info: This work has been introduced as Spanish EBM and features David Hinojosa aka Dave Inox (who you maybe know from his involvement in Extinction Front). Label owner Pedro Peñas Robles who got involved in numerous bands like Adán & Ilse and A★I joined hands on a few cuts under the HIV+ moniker.

Content: I didn’t know what to expect, but from the very first notes I heard pure vintage and minimal-like EBM, which simply became a trademark of Unknown Pleasures Records. The Spanish spoken vocals might remind you a bit of the legendary “Los Niños Del Parque”-hit from Liaisons Dangereuses while the sound might evoke good-old DAF souvenirs with an extra, contemporary touch on top.

Next to both title songs (with only “MissConceptual” feat. HIV+) you’ll discover 5 remixes by interesting names such as The Horrorist, Adriano Canzian, Delectro, Baroque and Iron Court.

+ + + : Both title tracks are simply brilliant and in my opinion the best part of contemporary EBM. It definitely sounds vintage-like and yet features this touch of modernism. It reminds me of some legendary 80s formation at one side and the contemporary minimalism at the other. I guess it’s not a coincidence if artists like The Horrorist and Adriano Canzian were asked for a remix. There’s something positive to say about each of the remixes, but my favorite one is “Danger Signal” remixed by Iron Court.

– – – : My main regret is that such an exceptional piece of music is only available on digital format. This is the kind of EBM deserving a CD print!

Conclusion: Dave Inox is a name to keep in mind and who definitely gets my full support. This artist has found the key to compose alluring EBM.

Best songs: “MissConceptual feat. HIV+”, “Danger Signal”, “Danger Signal – Remix by Iron Court”.

Rate: (8½).

This atypical artist active at minimal EBM fields joined hands with the Spanish label Morforecs to unleash this new 5-track EP “In The Desert”.

Content: The title track especially the version with vocals is a pure class-act! This is without a shadow of a doubt the best track I’ve heard from this artists. It’s a kind of haunting techno-body piece of music with haunting vocals. It also is a great production when played at maximum volume will make you feel strong vibrations.

The EP also featured an instrumental mix and 3 remixes by C-System, Delectro and VV303. The “Instrumental Mix” sounds really great while I have a preference for the remix by Delectro. This artist already made a remix of Ethan Fawkes on the “Random Bass”-EP.

+ + + : “In The Desert” is a magic piece of techno-body music. It sounds spooky and ultra danceable. I like this minimal approach, which moves in between techno music and retro EBM.

– – – : The remixes are cool, but don’t exactly add a bonus to the brilliant original version by the artist himself.

Conclusion: Ethan Fawkes transformed EBM into a freaky experience. The title song is an absolute masterpiece!

Best songs: “In The Desert – Vocal Mix”, “In The Desert – Instrumental Mix”.

Rate: (8).
