Background/Info: This is the fourth full length album by the Swedish electro-pop formation Daybehavior. The least I can say is that they don’t release new work on a regular basis; this new opus being released seven years after “Follow That Car” (2012).

Content: Daybehavior remains animated by the delicious, sensual and fragile vocals of Paulinda Crescentini, but the music is also something special. This is not the classical electro-pop composition driven by happy tunes and danceable rhythms. The splendor and magic of Daybehavior hides inside the melancholic atmospheres of their work. The songs are melodic, but mainly evasive-like. One of the most danceable cuts is the “Extended 12” Mix” of “Change”, which is a song previously released as an EP title track.

+ + + : I’ve always been a huge fan of Paulinda’s particular timbre of voice. It’s somewhat sensual, definitely fragile and filled with emotion, creating a perfect match with the melancholia of the music. The album features some beautiful songs and I especially have to mention “A Boy A Girl”. It’s a delicate exposure of electro-pop, but still an emotional sonic voyage into an intimate universe. The album features multiple captivating synth lines. This album sometimes reminds me of the magic of Conjure One.

– – – : You don’t hear me complaining, but I’m missing a few more danceable cuts suited for the dancefloors.

Conclusion: “Based On A True Story” has this authentic strength to touch people. It also is the band’s most mature and accomplished work.

Best songs: “A Boy A Girl”, “Burning Slowly”, “There’s Nothing Else”, “A Perfect Day”, “Change – Extended 12” Mix”.

The brilliant Stockholm based electropop act Daybehavior have released another track from their forthcoming new album “Based On A True Story”. “There’s Nothing Else” turns out to be a very luscious track in the good tradition of Daybehavior: an exquisite song structure, catchy hooks and a sweet vocal line by frontwoman Paulinda Crescentini.

This is actually the second single from the upcoming album, as the 2015 track “Change” will also show up on the new album, albeit in a new dress. You can listen to the new single below.

Daybehavior is a Swedish indie-pop trio, founded in Stockholm, in 1993 by Tommy Arell, Paulinda Crescentini and Carl Hammar. Their debut album “Adored” was released in 1996 by Swedish indie label North of No South Records (NONS). Per Gessle’s company JimmyFun Music, released the album in 15 countries worldwide. During 1998 and 1999 they,recorded their follow-up album with Kevin Petri, engineer on Massive Attack’s debut album “Blue Lines” (1991). NONS, dealing with financial problems, went into bankruptcy in 1999 and the album was locked from being released.

By 2003, Crescentini and Hammar decided to finish the album, now updated with some new material. Their second album, “Have You Ever Touched a Dream?” was released in 2004 by American indie label A Different Drum. In 2009, Arell thought it was time to rejoin the band and started to work on new material. During summer and fall 2010, the band recorded their new album, “Follow that car!”, which was released September 2012.

Genre/Influences: Synth-pop.

Content: Daybehavior is planning to release their 4th album in early 2016. The Swedish trio unleashed this digital single as a teaser to await the new opus.

“Change” features two songs. The original version is a danceable piece of traditional synth-pop. The song is carried by a deep-sounding bass line and a carrying chorus while the sensual vocals of Paulinda Crescentini injects a touch of magic to the work. “Change” sounds a little less melancholic although it features a kind of ‘feel-good’ feeling.

“Cambiare” is the Italian version of “Change” on, which Paulinda sings in Italian. It just adds an extra exotic touch to the song.

Conclusion: I can’t say that “Change” sounds like a potential hit, but it’s a well-crafted and polished piece of synth-pop music.

A month ago Daybehavior released their new single and video for “Change”. Now the band launches a video of the Italian version of the song, “Cambiare”. You can watch the video below. At the moment Daybehavior are in the studio continuing the work on their 4th album, “Based on a True Story”.

A new single and video is also scheduled for later this Fall.
