The Austrian band dAVOS has been active for several years, though they release new material only irregularly. After the death of the group’s founder last year, the band continued on, producing this new work as a result.

“Ruin/Grado” is a refined and well-crafted album, inspired by a blend of Synth-Pop and Electro-Wave. At times, the singer’s vocal timbre is reminiscent of Marc Almond — and that is high praise. The album features beautifully arranged songs, some of which carry a darker tone, while others are bright and uplifting. It’s a collection that lets you drift into a dreamlike state, only to pull you back onto the dance floor moments later.

In this sense, the tracklist is varied and dynamic, offering something for every Electro-Pop enthusiast. While dAVOS may not be a widely known name in the genre, this album is, in my opinion, well worth discovering. (Rating:8).
