(Photo by Shervin Lainez) The American synthpop trio, Princess Goes, has unveiled their latest single, “Blur”. This track follows “Shimmer” and is a precursor to their upcoming second album, “Come Of Age”, set to release on 6th October through the SO In De Goot label.

Previously known as Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum, the band features actor Michael C. Hall (known for “Dexter”, “Six Feet Under”, and “Lazarus”), keyboardist Matt Katz-Bohen (who has collaborated with Blondie and Cyndi Lauper), and Peter Yanowitz.

“‘Blur’ opens with a classic Juno-106 synth drone, evoking the early 80’s, flirting with the finality of its own fruition as layers of more synth, bass guitar and drums reveal themselves,” says Matt Katz-Bohen. “Michael’s poignant, aching lyrics and melody go from soft to epic, culminating in an MGMT/Human League chorus of loving synth transcendence: Baby I’m full grown now.”

The accompanying video, directed by Tim Richardson (who has worked with artists like Elton John and Billie Eilish), portrays Michael C. Hall trapped in a cosmic void.

In recent years, this New York City-based ensemble has been actively touring, recording, and self-producing. They launched a self-titled EP in April 2020 and their debut album, “Thanks For Coming”, in 2021.

Additionally, the band has announced a brief UK tour. The dates are as follows:

The experimental industrial act Testube has just released a brand new single + music video titled “Themself” as a fundraiser for True Colors United, an organization that works hard to improve the lives of homeless LGBTIQ+ youth. Jeff Danos (Testube) describes the sound as follows: “The new song is a dark and gritty composition with post-punk undertones, raw bass guitar, harsh stuttering percussion, haunting synths, and heart-wrenching vocals.”

Jeff Danos tells us this about the song and video: “When our daughter came out to us as a teen, we wanted to surround her with our most unconditional love and acceptance, to ensure that she felt the confidence and support she needed, to truly be herself. While I certainly know what it feels like to be rejected for being different, I can’t imagine how terrifying it can be for a young LGBTIQ person striving to become their true, authentic self. Some of these youth are treated with disgust and hatred by those around them, even by their own families. It is also common for some LGBTIQ youth to be forced from their home, with nowhere to go. With that in mind, this video was produced as a fundraiser for True Colors United, an organization founded by the one and only Cyndi Lauper, that is implementing innovative solutions to youth homelessness that focus on the unique experiences of LGBTIQ young people.”

The limited transparent white vinyl of “Blueprint”, is the follow-up to the “A Home” album which featured the participation of pianist Mike Garson (musician for David Bowie and Smashing Pumpkins).

“Blueprint” offers electro-pop, a bit more catchy than its predecessors but still melancholic, which hints at the Smiths or movie soundtracks like John Hughes ( “The Breakfast Club”). You can also expect a cover of the classic “Time after Time” by Cyndi Lauper.

Jean-Michel Jarre will be working with the Pet Shop Boys and Gary Numan on the follow-up album of last year’s “Electronica Vol. 1: The Time Machine”, released on 16 October 2015 by Columbia Records. That album was recorded with the help of 15 separate collaborators, including Vince Clarke, Gesaffelstein, M83, Armin van Buuren, John Carpenter, Robert “3D” Del Naja of Massive Attack fame, Pete Townshend (from The Who) and the late Edgar Froese of Tangerine Dream. The new album is scheduled for a mid-May release.

The new album, “Electronica Vol. 2: The Heart of Noise” will also feature collaborations with Peaches, Siriusmo, Primal Scream, Julia Holter, Jeff Mills , Yello, The Orb, Sébastien Tellier, Christophe, film composer Hans Zimmer, and Cyndi Lauper. You can view a trailer below.

The album is a tribute to Italian composer Luigi Russolo, who is considered the godfather of electronic music and experimental instruments. “Electronica Vol. 2: The Heart of Noise” will be Jarre’s nineteenth studio album to date. Jarre has described the two albums as being his “most ambitious project.”

Jean Michel Jarre himself is a French composer, performer, and music producer. He is a pioneer in the electronic, ambient, and new-age genres, and known as an organiser of outdoor spectacles of his music featuring lights, laser displays, and fireworks.
