Out now is the brand new Chandeen single “Exhale”. “Exhale” is the second single from the upcoming Chandeen album, “The Last Glimpse Of Your Life”, which will be released on January 24, 2024.

The band says that “‘Exhale’ holds a special place in our hearts (…) it’s a bittersweet reflection on the moments when loss feels overwhelming, but also about finding the strength to keep breathing, to keep feeling, and to keep moving forward.”

About Chandeen

Chandeen, a musical project from Frankfurt am Main, Germany, was founded in 1990 by Harald Löwy and Oliver Henkel. Initially popular in the darkwave scene, the band described their style as “Electronic Poetry.” Over time, their sound evolved to incorporate elements of pop, rock, and trip-hop.

The band’s early lineup featured vocalists Aline Akbari and Antje Schulz. After Akbari’s departure in 1993, Catrin Mallon joined and contributed to the albums “Shaded by the Leaves” and “Jutland.” Following further internal changes, Stephanie Härich became the lead vocalist in 1995, marking a shift towards a more pop-oriented sound.

Chandeen gained mainstream exposure with their 1998 single “Skywalking,” which received airplay on MTV Europe and VIVA. In 2001, Löwy established the independent label Kalinkaland Records, through which the band released several albums before disbanding in 2004.

The project was reactivated in 2007, with Julia Beyer joining as the vocalist for the 2008 album “Teenage Poetry.” Subsequent releases include “Blood Red Skies” (2011), “Forever and Ever” (2014), and “Mercury Retrograde” (2020).

Helax, the Swedish dark ambient / electro act signed to Warsaw Recordings, played their first ever live set at an outdoor location in Palamos, Spain earlier this week, playing songs from their recent two EPs.You can have a listen to the rather poppy live set right below.

Helax is a side project of Swedish-born (Uppsala) but now Berlin-based Jon Alexander Ericson, and was part of the dream-pop duo The Ghost Of Helags and electronic act Brynäs. He has also released four albums as a solo artist (including on Kalinkaland Records, the label owned by Chandeen’s Harald Löwy) and three with the group The Northern Territories and an album with Stjarna.

With “Cryogenix”, In Strict Confidence released their debut CD on Talla 2XLC’s electro cult label Zoth Ommog in 1996. Four years after its release, however, the label ceased to exist and as a result, “Cryogenix” disappeared from the market in 2000 until today.

The band and its label Minuswelt have now revived this album for its 25th anniversary in a special edition. The new edition comes with 4 extra bonus tracks (rare and unreleased material): “Dementia” (Funker Vogt Remix), “Inside” (Inside Out Instrumental), “Heavens Help” (Life – Part 3) and “Dementia” (Redux).

About In Strict Confidence

In Strict Confidence is a German electro-industrial band. Formed in 1989, they were known as Seal of Secrecy until 1992. In Strict Confidence has been signed to several record labels, including Zoth Ommog, Metropolis Records and WTII Records.

In Strict Confidence originally started out as a quartet, but stripped down to a duo (Dennis Ostermann and Jörg Schelte) in 1992, releasing two demos tapes on the way to their debut release “Cryogenix” on Zoth Ommog in 1996, shortly followed by an EP “Collapse”. The third album “Love Kills!” was released on the newly formed but unfortunately short lived Bloodline label two years later.

Founding member Stefan Vesper then re-joined the group in time for “Mistrust the Angels” in 2002 with subsequent albums “Holy” and “Exile Paradise” appearing at two-year intervals. These albums saw the increasing use of female vocals from Antje Schulz, vocalist of the band Chandeen, and the addition of female vocalist Nina de Lianin.

Chandeen has released yet another video, this time for the track “Light”. “Light” is taken from the band’s recently released album “Mercury Retrograde”.

In a statement regarding the release the band says: “We are all going through some strange times currently and we sincerely hope that you are doing well and taking care of each other.As our singer Holly Henderson sings on this track: “Everywhere is light”… and we think that especially now it is important to not loose hope and try to find the light whenever and wherever we can.”

The shoegaze/darkwave act Chandeen is back with an all new video for the track “Vanish”. The track is taken from the band’s new album “Mercury Retrograde” out February 28, 2020. It will be the band’s tenth studio album and it will be released digitally and physically (CD and an 180g vinyl edition).

Singer Julia Beyer tells a bit more about the video: “So so proud of this, as we again produced the video on our own, with the filming and concept done by me. And it was so great to work with Luisa again who is so beautiful it hurts and did such an amazing job! And especially the invaluable helping hand (or in this case: choking hand) and laughter with/by Jens made the stressful shoot much more enjoyable.”

Chandeen, then and now

Chandeen was formed in Frankfurt am Main, in 1990, Harald Löwy and Oliver Henkel right at the moment when the darkwave scene knew its primal burst. From the middle of the 1990s, the band’s style changed to a more pop-oriented sound with influences from rock and trip hop. In 1991 Aline Akbari joined, and additional singer Antje Schulz joined in 1992.

After two cassette releases, the band signed to the cult label Hyperium Records, run by Oliver Rösch. Aline Akbari left the group shortly before the signing and was replaced by Catrin Mallon. Under this lineup they recorded their first two full-lengths, “Shaded by the Leaves” and “Jutland”. Both albums became instant classics.

Catrin Mallon and Oliver Henkel left the group in 1994 and went on to collaborate on the project Edera, which produced only one album (1996’s “Ambiguous”) before dissolving. Chandeen continued with the new singer Stephanie Härich for the 1995 EP “Light Within Time”. Härich had previously worked with Harald Löwy on the project Incept Date, singing background vocals on their “Archipelago” album in 1994.

After several releases on Hyperium, the group separated from that label and began releasing on Synthetic Symphony, a sublabel of SPV GmbH. Despite major exposion for the band in 1998 with the single “Skywalking”, it didn’t get them the mainstream succes they hoped for.

Harald Löwy created his own independent label, Kalinkaland, in 2001, which became the primary vehicle for the release of Chandeen’s music. Several further releases followed before the group broke up. In 2007 Löwy reactivated the project, releasing a new album, “Teenage Poetry”, in 2008. Julia Beyer joined for this release. Furthermore there was an additional steady band member with Mike Brown, who died in 2012. 2011 saw the release of their album “Blood Red Skies”, followed by “Forever And Ever” in 2014.
