Background/Info: GunMaker is a Hungarian trio which released their debut-work “Headmaker” in 2015. This album revealed an electro-metal sound with some pop influences. The successor “Daymaker” was released in 2017 revealing a male vocalist instead of the female singer who has left the band. Notice by the way this album was produced by Rob Dust.

Content: “Daymaker” is a different album, which is more carried by pop elements. I can’t speak about a ‘typical’ electro-pop album as “Daymaker” goes much further. The songs are sophisticated, catchy and empowered by guitar riffs. Solid bass lines and impressive electronic treatments (which even remind me of Sebastian Komor) are the main electronic ingredients of this work.

The album also features a rather surprising Covenant cover (cf. “Like Tears In Rain”) plus a few remixes by Rob Dust, Atomzero, Strongmaker and Diskonnekted.

+ + + : “Daymaker” reveals a great evolution compared to the debut work. The songs have been composed with intelligence. I like the carrying- and melodic aspect of the songs while the guitar play inject some extra power. There’s a real great balance between all the different layers and especially between electronics and guitar. I also like the vocals when produced with some minimalistic, robotic effect on top.

– – – : The only single point that can be improved are the vocals on a few songs. There’re missing conviction and especially passion. That’s maybe because of the line-up change.

Conclusion: “Daymaker” is a real interesting album for avoiding the big electro-pop cliché. It also reveals a band that has made an interesting move towards more indie-pop driven influences.

Best songs: “I Swear”, “I Swear – Rob Dust 80s Forever Mix”, “Trust Me Or Lie”, “Like Tears In Rain”.

Background/Info: This is the second official EP by nTTx. Gord Clement was previously involved as the singer of Atomzero, but is now running his own band.

Content: The last year released “Objective”-EP was a promising debut while this new EP simply confirms the potential of nTTx. The opening piece is a phenomenal song inspired by EBM reminding me of bands such as Front 242, Leather Strip (which did the mastering of the EP) and Nitzer Ebb with a surprising, but terrific disco-like groove on top. The EBM influence comes back on each new song. This EP features 4 new songs plus a remix of “False Beautiful” (originally released on their first EP) by Rotersand. Notice by the way nTTx still added a new cover version, this time the famous “Eye Of The Tiger” from Survivor.

+ + + : nTTx is not reinventing EBM and doesn’t bring real innovation, but the songs have been masterly crafted. It’s not an easy cheap composition, but a professional and efficient production mixing elements from different bands with a very own approach on top. The song “Movedark” is a real smasher, but I also have to mention “Prey” for its great sound treatments and “True” carried by a great and somewhat Nitzer Ebb-like bass line. Rotersand did a great job remixing “Falls Beautiful”.

– – – : Gordon Clement is a great singer, but I’m sure he can put a little bit more passion in some of the vocal parts. I’m not that fond of the Survivor cover, but it’s fun while “Earth” featuring some guitar playing is nothing more than a B-side song.

Conclusion: I highly recommend this new EP by nTTx, which is a great and modern EBM production. I’m really looking forward to this band’s debut full length.

Best songs: “Movedark”, “True”, “Prey”, “Falls Beautiful – Rotersand Rework”.

Stealing elements of EBM, synthpop and industrial, nTTx completes this sonic landscape with strong, melodic vocals, that range from soft and delicate, to powerful and in your face. nTTx is the new solo project of Gord Clement (Toronto,Canada) who was the former singer/songwriter for the band Atomzero.

nTTx’s first single, “Falls Beautiful” with a b-side Depeche Mode cover was released independently in May 2015. The single spent 4 weeks in the top 15 on the German Electronic Webcharts (GEWC) and received some great feedback. This lead to being signed to WTII Records and the release of his debut EP “Objective” in April 2016. The EP features remixes by Caustic, Stars Crusaders and Kiss is Kill.

A four piece band has been put together for entertaining live shows featuring lighting/lasers which Clement has individually programmed for each song.
Background/Info: Based in Frankfurt am Main, Electro Arc has already been busy for a couple of years now. It’s a small label devoted to different electronic formats –although mainly EBM, and which already revealed bands like Finkseye, Akalotz, First Aid 4 Souls, La Santé, Invasion of Female Logic and a few others. This sampler reveals an interesting selection of EBM inspired formations.

Bands: Sieqsonick, Atomzero, Finkseye, Invasion Of Female Logic, W.A.R.D.R.O.B.E., Akalotz, Red Industrie ao.

Content: “Net.Ware Jester’s Joy” reveals a nice cocktail between already familiar names and a few promising formations like Sieqsonick, 77XE, Franz Riss, Y-Orbit, Strong Product (featuring a great cover version of Jäger 90) and Altop Voltaje.

Finkseye is one of the good-old featured EBM formations and the only band with 2 tracks. They bring the kind of body music that might appeal for Pouppée Fabrikk lovers. W.A.R.D.R.O.B.E. and Red Industrie both are bands driven by the creative spirit of minimal-EBM maker Helder Camberos (Mexico).

+ + + : This is the kind of sampler I really like for the contribution of rather new and promising formations. I also discovered some great EBM work by different bands. I here have to mention Franz Riss and Strong Product while an established artist like Helder Camberos once more explores the minimal side of EBM. Finkseye and Akalotz both confirm their potential.

– – – : Compilations are catching less attention and especially when it concerns smaller labels. That will be for sure one of the main obstacles for this compilation. The real minus is the poorly inspired artwork of the front cover.

Conclusion: If you like EBM and you want to discover bands you never heard of before, you for sure have to try this compilation, which will give you full satisfaction!

Best bands: Strong Product, Finkseye, Invasion Of Female Logic, Franz Riss, Red Industrie, Akalotz.

Rate: (8).

Background/Info: Based in Manchester (UK), AnalogueTrash Records is one of the few growing labels from the past few years. The label is mainly devoted to electronic-pop music and has already released multiple cool releases and at the same time made us discover promising new bands. This label sampler mixes familiar label bands and a few, new discoveries as well.

Bands: Machinista, IIOIOIOII, FoxxyNewPort, Advance, Neonsol, SYD.31, Atomzero, Def Neon, Vain Machine, Vieon, Needle Factory, Factory Acts ao.

Content: This label sampler clearly reveals the taste of the label, which is mainly centered on electro-pop driven standards. The label roster features world-wide formations, but mainly British and American bands.

AnalogueTrash is not exactly into the ‘traditional’ synth-pop standards, but opens a window upon bands mixing elements of pop with dance music and groovy sequences. There also is an interesting number of space-ambient-like minded bands while others are more into darker pop formats and even a kind of electro-rock and pop music.

The sampler reveals a selection of already familiar tracks, but still an interesting number of remixes.

+ + + : A label sampler always is an opportunity to get a better view of their roster and AnalogueTrash definitely features great ‘pop-troops’ driven by carrying pop of Machinista, the sexy dance-pop of FoxxyNewPort, the dark dance-pop of Neonsol, the heavier and into power-like SYD.31 and a more experimental and minimal-sounding remix of Atomzero. Among the few bands, which aren’t (yet) signed on the label I discovered the interesting Tregenza, which also made the aforementioned remix of Atomzero.

– – – : This label sampler is fully enjoyable although the bands aren’t always featured with their best cuts… even if this is a question of taste. The label also seems to be mainly focused on finding new bands while they’re maybe missing an already recognized and more famous band, which could increase the fame of the label.

Conclusion: AnalogueTrash Records is a label is fully respect and support, not only because they’re revealing promising new bands with a great taste of music, but also because it’s one of the few, new labels from the past years bringing us something extra.

Best bands: FoxxyNewPort, Factory Acts, Machinista, SYD.31, Neonsol, Atomzero.

Rate: (7½).

This artist got previously involved as singer into the promising Atomzero. nTTx reveals similar, but more personal body-pop influences. I first discovered nTTx through a few successful remixes for bands like Stars Crusaders, Comasoft, Advance and more recently for Double Eyelid. After the “Falls Beautiful”-single featuring a cover version of Depeche Mode, nTTx is now back on track unleashing the “Objective”-EP on WTII Records.

(by Inferno Sound Diaries)

Q: What made you leave Atomzero and starting the solo-project nTTx?

Gord: Some differences with Peter and I that we let go on. We were a good team in many ways, but in others, not so much.

Q: What kind of sound did you have in mind when you started nTTx and what does it say about potential sources of inspiration?

Gord: I wanted to get to a more raw sound, less instruments going on, with elements of my favorite genres in an electronic stew.

Q: You seem to like cover versions. You of course made a cover version of Depeche Mode’s “New Dress”, but I noticed you also covered “Should I Stay Or Should I Go” from The Clash. What fascinates you making cover versions and what how do you proceed?

Gord: I love hearing covers from other bands, so I thought I should do some too! Really, it boils down to thinking of some altered reality where a great song was done in this genre, and how that would play out. I got some people upset at that Clash cover, but I think no song is untouchable. Next one is a classic from Michael Jackson!

Q: You made a few, but noticeable remixes. How is it working on a remix and what kind of result do you expect?

Gord: Working on remixes is so much fun. I always approach it as… ‘what if I wrote this song’. In some ways I guess it is the same as covering a song, but I use elements from the original artist tracks. I always take the vocal track and look to it for patterns in rhythm and go from there.

Q: You’re actually starting with a live band, so how do you try to transpose the sound of nTTx on stage?

Gord: I never just want to do a copy of the songs live just as they were on the release. By adding the live drummer and guitarist, I give them creative space to let them discover their own ways through the music. Neither of them are ‘from’ the genre, more rock, so they lend a different feel. The synths are somewhat similar, but when a different person is playing, they can’t help but put a bit of their own feel into it.

Q: What might we expect from your first full length album? Can you already reveal some details about sound and production?

Gord: So far, it is shaping up to be generally a bit more aggressive than the EP. Will still be a amalgam of EBM, pop and funk as they are my calling cards I guess. WTII is very supportive with me and let me go the way I want. There may be some partnered song writing on it too, we will have to wait and see.

Based in Toronto (Canada) nTTx already made a few noticeable remixes while the single “Falls Beautiful” released last year received instant success. Because of this success the title song has now been re-released on the “Objective”-EP featuring 3 extra songs and 3 remixes.

Content: “Falls Beautiful” is a solid piece of body-pop music, which also appears to be the main influence behind the other cuts. The composition is well-crafted and features a powerful production. The vocals are rather clear and charismatic. Gord Clement is definitely a good singer with a timbre of voice, which is totally appropriated for the sound.

The remixes have been made by Caustic, Stars Crusaders and Kiss Is Kill. I noticed a brilliant remix of “Falls Beautiful” by Stars Crusaders, which features terrific sound treatments.

+ + + : nTTx confirms the potential revealed on its single “Falls Beautiful”. This band composes a powerful body-pop style based upon a mature and detailed writing with great sound treatments. “cRave” is a noticeable song with a great progression in structure. The remixes add some extra power and other influences to the work.

– – – : “Objective” reveals multiple cool songs, but not a kind of hit from which you can’t escape.

Conclusion: nTTx confirms to be a real interesting ‘new’ body-pop formation and I’m really looking forward to discovering their debut full length. This is a band with huge potential.

Best songs: “cRave”, “Falls Beautiful”, “Falls Beautiful – Stars Crusaders Remix”.

Background/Info: San Francisco (USA) based Jesse James Alexander has been introduced as ‘a self-styled anti-pop star for the queer and alternative communities.’ That’s a rather intriguing introduction for this artist (who is also an active DJ) who after having released a few EP’s now joined AnalogueTrash. Notice by the way that this work is still released on cassette format.

Content: The very first notes and tones clearly reveal an electro-pop approach driven by danceable rhythms. It sometimes reminds me a bit of Faderhead in a more poppy and explicit danceable format. I’m often a bit skeptical when underground artists are exploring dance fields. They often fall into a trap of cheap clichés, but FoxxyNewport appears to be an antidote to this kind of productions.

The songs are well-crafted and elaborated by cool sound treatments and solid choruses. Some elevating trance leads can be noticed now and then. I also like the production of the vocals, which features many cool effects.

Notice by the way that the album has been produced and mastered by Mr. Kitty who’s an experienced artist when it comes to speaking about great electro-pop music.

+ + + : The album features 10 fascinating songs and 3 cool remixes by IIOIOIOII, Atomzero and Cora. I however prefer the original versions featuring a few potential hits.

– – – : No doubt about it, the danceable aspect of the work will not please all electro-pop lovers. It will probably be too dance-minded for them.

Conclusion: FoxxyNewport is a refreshing and highly danceable new ‘alien’ dropped in the electro-pop galaxy. Electro-pop and dance music can be a delicious symbiosis when it’s made with intelligence and knowledge. FoxxyNewport plus Mr. Kitty definitely is a winning team.

Best songs: “Control”, “Stars”, “Worry”, “Neutral”, “Sado”, “Rebirth”.

The 3rd edition of the Beat:Cancer charity compilation – which is being released in a couple of months – is available now for pre-order from the Analogue Trash label.

The idea behind the Beat:Cancer compilation series and concerts started in 2012 as the founder Mark Haigh’s reaction to the loss of a friend and colleague to lymphoma. Initially envisioned as a 7-track digital EP, word quickly spread with artists and labels from across the electronic music spectrum pledging their support. Beat:Cancer has since released two successful fundraising CDs, hosted four fundraising concerts and a number of clubbing events around the UK, raising around £6000 in 3 years to help Cancer Research UK fund research into screening, treatment and cures for cancer.

This year with the support of label partners Analogue Trash, they will not only return to their live endeavours but will be releasing the third volume in their well-received compilations series. The compilation will be officially released on Friday 25th of March at the Resistanz Festival in Sheffield, with pre-orders going live from today, Monday 1 February, onwards via the Analogue Trash label shop.

Beat:Cancer v3 will feature 3 discs worth of exclusive and unreleased tracks from new and emerging artists and established favourites of the alternative and electronic music scene: 45 of them in total including ESA, Freakangel, Dirty K, Ruinizer, SIRUS, Atomzero, Syd.31, … The CD edition will be packaged in a deluxe 8 panel digipak, with artwork from designer Vlad McNeally. The album will be available as well via all good digital stores and streaming services. There are also exclusive pre-order bundles available (incl. cassettes, t-shirts, …) with some lovely bonuses for early bird supporters:

The first 25 orders will be entered into a draw to win a prize bundle containing a selection of Beat:Cancer merchandise and a pair of Beat:Cancer LIVE tickets.

The first 30 pre-orders will receive a free bracelet

The first 100 will be entered into a further draw to win one of 3 pairs of tickets to a Beat:Cancer LIVE event in 2016.

Supporters are also invited to make a donation in return for a dedication on all 500 copies of the CD artwork by e-mailing the Beat:Cancer team at contact@beatcancer.info. Says Mark Haigh who coordinates the whole: “In the past, sponsors have used this opportunity to remember and celebrate loved ones, friends or colleagues who have been lost to the disease, are currently fighting it or have been lucky enough to beat cancer themselves.”

Full details, event line-ups, merch and music sales are available on the official Beat:Cancer website. For further information please contact Mark Haigh at contact@beatcancer.info or phone to +44 (0)7852 967343.
Track 5 on our free download compilation “Face The Beat: Session 3” is by the Toronto-based dark electro act Atomzero. The band offered the track “Velocity” in a remix by Vain Machine. Here’s what you get: harsh beats, a pulsating bassline mixed with veracious synth lines and clear vocals.

You can listen to the track below.

Face The Beat: Session 3 by Atomzero

Atomzero is the songwriting partnership of Peter Godziszewski and Andrew Hunter serving up strong vocals and a melody-driven brand of electronic music. Fusing classic electronic influences of early electro-pop, industrial and EBM into dark electro tracks weaving themes of human nature and how we relate to one another. Signed to Manchester’s AnalogueTrash records, Atomzero have recently released a digital EP “Velocity” and are currently working on their next album.

You can find more info about this band on their official website.

Content: Operating from Manchester (UK) Syd.31 unleashed its 2nd EP to the world. The least I can say is that this formation set up by Dr Magic can be simply one of the hottest new sensations in electro land.

“Drowning In Air” features 4 new songs plus a surprising cover version. One of the main sources of inspiration clearly appears to be The Prodigy. Syd.31 experiments with breakbeats injecting a great dynamic and power into the songs, but also some of the sound treatments remind me of the raw and techno-industrial style of The Prodigy. Some other technoid elements remind me to Ultraviolence, which is a somewhat forgotten British master of electronic underground. All those elements have been mixed with a hard industrial-rave style creating a merciless and exciting sound.

It’s not really a surprise that Noisuf-X did the mastering of this EP while contributing to the most surprising song of the EP. The cover version of “Mr. Vain” (originally performed by Culture Beat) is not exactly the kind of song you expect to be covered by a dark-electro formation. It’s fun, it’s totally weird, but ultra danceable and you clearly ill recognize the hard and dry, stumping kick of Noisuf-X.

But this is of course not the main song of this EP. The songs “Disorder” and “Hate” are more appropriated to get an idea about this formation. It all reassembles the aforementioned influences resulting in a dangerous sonic bomb. “Hate” appears to be a potential hit, perfectly illustrating the modern technological approach of this band.

But there’s more to enjoy and I here refer to the song “No Fear”, which is driven by d’n’b inspired rhythms while the sound treatments remain pretty raw and technoid-minded. The song “Revolution” is the one that reminds me a bit to the sometimes hard-core driven Ultraviolence.

Notice by the way that multiple guest artists have been invited to accomplish this EP. I already mentioned Jan L (Noisuf-X), but you’ll also discover names like Kommand + Kontrol and Paresis & Beinaheleidenschaftsgegenstand while Grendel’s J.D. Tucker produced 4 from the 5 songs (“Mr. Vain” being produced by Jan L).

A last element consists of the vocals, which mix numerous samplings and a rather harsh way of singing.

Conclusion: AnalogueTrash Records already have a few cool bands like Machinista, Atomzero, Advance, Neonsol ao, but Syd.31 could rapidly become their biggest sensation. This is a real astonishing release.

Best songs: “Hate”, “Disorder”, “Revolution”.

Content: The Toronto based duo Peter Godziszewski and Andrew Hunter are busy working on a new album, which will succeed to the promising “Symbiosis”. In my opinion Atomzero is the most promising formation on the Analogue Trash roster and this new EP featuring 4 new songs plus 2 remixes simply confirms their talent.

The new songs are harder and definitely more EBM driven than the previous work. The title song takes off with this harder approach while the chorus gets back to some pop standards. “Velocity” sounds like its title: fast and especially a powerful expression of body-pop music.

The upcoming new cuts confirm the power-pop approach, which sometimes moves back to some future-pop influences (which already was a noticeable element at “Symbiosis”). But I was especially impressed by the global writing revealing fine treatments and especially an intelligent sound creation. The work becomes more elaborate. Some passages – and especially at “Towards the Sun”, even remind me to refined creation of Covenant. “Velocity” reveals a high tech fusion between different electronic styles like EBM and future-pop.

The least I can say is that the new compositions are more than promising teasers to welcome the new full length planned for 2016.
Both remixes of “Velocity” are cool, but not exactly adding a bonus. The remixes have been accomplished by Gunmaker (maybe known by the fans of Advoxya Records) and label mates Needle Sharing.

Conclusion: Atomzero is not only confirming their great skills for composing alluring body-pop music, but the global production reflects an impressive evolution- and elaboration in sound.

Best songs: “Velocity – Original Mix”, “Towards The Sun – Original Mix”, “Therapy – Original Mix”.
