Genre/Influences: Minimal-Electro, Electro-Wave.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Fabio Longo is an Italian musician who got previously involved with different projects dealing with different styles of music. Peloquinn saw the daylight in 2015. “After The Meal” features five songs.

Content: This EP features the title song plus 2 remixes and a kind of B-side track plus 1 remix. It’s not an easy thing defining this project, but there’s a kind of dreamy Electro-Pop coming through “After The Meal”. “The Mystery Of The Crow” coming up sounds dreamy as well while carried by a melodic, sad tune. The remixes bring diversity and have been accomplished by Beatcore Machine (side-project of Artcore Machine) and Zelt. The last song is a shortened edit of the title song.

+ + + : What I like in this EP is the mysterious atmosphere reinforced with the somewhat ghost-like vocals. The slow tempo of the tracks perfectly fits to the song, this way empowering the enigmatic sphere. “After The Meal” is a cool song, but “The Mystery Of The Crow” could have been a title song as well. Each song has been remixed and each remix is adding a cool bonus. I especially recommend listening to the remix of “The Mystery Of The Crow” by Zelt revealing an intriguing guitar playing, which has something Eastern like.

– – – : This EP is a cool listening, but can’t really take me by surprise. I’m missing something extra in the production; some extra power or a carrying lead. I personally prefer the B-side song instead of the title track.

Conclusion: Peloquinn is an interesting project, but I’m sure there’s more potential hiding behind this artist.

Best songs: “The Mystery Of The Crow”, “After The Meal”.

Rate: (6½).

Genre/Influences: Experimental, IDM, industrial.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Set up in 2009,
Artcore Machine is driven by Moreno Padoan (still running Xonar Records) and
Roberto Beltrame. The Italian duo has already released a number of albums and
is now back on track unleashing seven new songs.

Content: I remember Artcore
Machine as a subtle fusion between different styles and that’s not that
different for “Dubh”. The tracks are clearly filled with industrial sound
treatments and revealing an impressive noise canvas, but there also is this
subtle touch on top of the work. This album however has something more into
noise, which sometimes makes me think of pure improvisation. It’s a minimal and
experimental work evolving towards a kind of noise climax right at the last
song.

+ + + : The sonic canvas
revealed by this duo is absolutely impressive. They are sonic scientists who
are more into sound manipulation and noise transformation instead of composing
‘classical’ song formats. I especially like the deep, resonating sound together
with crashing percussion. Both debut songs are my personal favorites although I
have to admit the noise final of the last cut also is worthy of examination.

– – – : I’ve already heard
more cohesive work by this duo, the album becoming more experimental and
therefore extreme.

Conclusion: “Dubh” is what I
would call a truly sonic collage!

Best songs: “Hita-M”, “Dubh –
Part 1”, “Xap Zwart”.

Rate: (6½).

Background/Info: QOD is a brand new Italian duo set up by Moreno Padoan (owner of Xonar Records and involved with Artcore Machine) and Andrea Belluci (who you probably know from his involvement with numerous projects such as Red Sector A, Dioxide, Nerva…). “Absequence” is the debut album of QOD.

Content: QOD deals with an experimental electronic approach, but still with a sophisticated composition. “Absequence” is characterized by sound creation, numerous effects and noise treatments. The tracks are driven by a slow and sometimes irregular cadence. You however will notice a few harder and bombastic kicks, which sound like beating drones.

+ + + : “Absequence” reflects all the maturity from this duo, which clearly excels in great sound treatments. It’s minimal, experimental, but first of all an intelligent creation. Padoan and Belluci clearly reveal themselves as truly sound architects. It’s the kind of work that might appeal to lovers of leading labels such as Ant-zen and Hands. I like the progression running through the tracks. The heavier sounding “2C (Collateral Clouds)” injects some diversity and appears to be a perfect track to play live.

– – – : The experimental format of the work is not made to conquer wider audiences, but QOD clearly sounds as a project for a restricted number of fine tasters.

Conclusion: I’m not saying that QOD is the ultimate experience in IDM and related music genres although it totally matches with the visionary approach of this music genre. I can only encourage QOD to work on new tracks.

Best songs: “2C (Collateral Clouds)”, “Dazed Cube”.
