(By our Norwegian correspondent Jan Ronald Stange) After three weeks of dropping singles, B-sides, and a remix, Bingo Crowd have officially crowned their comeback with the release of the full “Manners”‘ album. As observant readers will know by now, it was mixed by none other than Alan Moulder and mastered by Heba Kadry.

Personally, I was swept off my feet the first time I heard “Lightball System” more than 15 years ago. After buying and listening to the album “Sinecure” in just about every format available, I was left wanting more. Over the years, I managed to track down additional songs here and there — digitally, on compilation CDs, or on 7” singles from the band’s earlier days under their first moniker, Bitch Cassidy. I also got in touch with their manager and label head, Torgeir, who kindly kept me in the loop, occasionally sharing demos and snippets as the band evolved.

Now, the wait is finally over: the full album is here for everyone to dive into. And soon also on a limited edition colored vinyl – grab’em while available!

After sending a batch of questions to singer Andreas Elvenes, he brought them along to the band’s meeting the weekend after the release.

Bingo Crowd interview

Side-Line: First of all, congratulations on the new album! How has it been received so far among those fortunate enough to hear the promos, attend the listening parties, or listen online since the release?

Bingo Crows: It’s now been around 24 hours since the album was released, and so far, we’re a bit overwhelmed by the positive feedback.

S-L: It’s been in the works for many years now. How has this process been?

BC: Yes, it’s been quite a few years. We’ve worked continuously — listening, improving, and waiting for the album to find its manners.

S-L: When did you realize that you actually had a whole album ready?

BC: I believe it started to feel realistic when we sent the files over to Alan Moulder in England. And of course, it became even more real the day we received the pallet of vinyl records from the factory in the Netherlands.

S-L: The cover image suggests there’s a story behind it — do tell!

BC: The boxed silverware on the cover was a wedding gift received by Andreas’ great-grandfather at his wedding in 1920. This ties in thematically with the album title Manners and symbolizes the customs and traditions of the old days.

S-L: What can the audience expect when attending the release concert next week?

BC: Sausages. (https://iomat.no/)
(S-L editor’s note: Scroll down a bit on the page and you’ll see why! 😊)

The set will mainly feature songs from the new album, but also a couple of tracks that haven’t been released yet, along with one song that is only available digitally.

We’ve been working with the same creative team for more than 20 years. Pekka Stokke (3D video projections) and Steffen Telstad (lighting) have developed a cinematic lighting design that’s an integral part of our live shows. Our sound engineer has been Tor Breivik from Avon.

S-L: What’s next after the Oslo concert?

BC: Our next concert will be in Trondheim on the 16th of May at Verkstedhallen.

This autumn, you can also expect a remix 12-inch, among other releases.

The three members of Bingo Crowd – Andreas Elvenes, Svein Segtnan, and Eivind Brønstad – grew up in Snåsa, deep in the remote forests of Norway. In the late ’90s, what “rock” meant in Snåsa was straightforward: loud guitars and raw energy. That’s how the band began—originally as a guitar-driven power trio.

Based in Trondheim, they initially performed under the name Bitch Cassidy. Everything changed when guitarist Svein Segtnan discovered a piece of electronic music by Brian Eno. That moment sparked a shift. He began collecting analog synthesizers, and the band slowly evolved from rock roots into a darker, synth-infused sound.

They rebranded as BC and launched their own label, LUBE Records for digital releases, while Crispin Glover Records handled their physical releases. In November 2008, they released their debut album “Sinecure” – a brooding blend of synthrock and EBM that quickly earned them a cult following in Norway’s underground scene.

Today, the band goes by Bingo Crowd. Seventeen years after “Sinecure”, they’ve released the new album titled “Manners” April 28th 2025.

The upcoming release will be celebrated with a concert at Parkteatret in Oslo on May 3rd, 2025.

(By our Norwegian correspondent Jan Ronald Stange) In their third consecutive week of single releases, Bingo Crowd continues their comeback with ‘Nitro My Shield’, a smooth and tranquil ride, quite appropriate for this longest of Fridays. The track also appears on the upcoming album ‘Manners’, mixed by Alan Moulder and mastered by Heba Kadry.
The B-side and non-album track ‘K120’ was mixed by Kyrre Laastad and mastered by Morten Stendahl. ‘K120’ might sound strange to non-Norwegians, as it resembles a preacher thanking people helping him. I reached out to some of the guys involved, hoping to find out more about this.

Torgeir Lund (manager): Svein did some live recordings from a church, probably Betel, when he was living in downtown Trondheim. They had radio broadcasts from there. Some of the names mentioned have been distorted to keep them anonymous.

Andreas Elvenes (vocals): We’ve also done this before. As I remember it, one of us had been to an estate auction in Steinkjer and came back with a briefcase full of cassette tapes featuring recordings of various lay preachers from the 1980s. These were digitized and archived, only to sit untouched for a few years. We later used some of those samples on the track ‘Støv’ (‘Dust’) which appeared on a couple of compilations (‘Party Terror 3’ (LP) and ‘Sorgenfrie Øyeblikk Vol.1 (CD), both on Crispin Glover Records)

We were aiming for a certain mood on both ‘Støv’ and ‘K120’, and realised that parts of those recordings might help us get there. Kind of fever-dream logic, right in the intersection between icy, funny, and eerie.

(By our Norwegian correspondent Jan Ronald Stange) A week after Bingo Crowd (formerly known as BC) released their comeback single ‘Voloop’ they continue the return with not just one, but two releases this week. ‘Mapmaker’s Dream’ – with the B-side ‘Stack’ (non-album track) – is accompanied by ‘Voloop (Extnddntwrk Remix)’.

‘Mapmaker’s Dream’ was mixed by Alan Moulder and mastered by Heba Kadry, while ‘Stack’ was mastered by Kyrre Laastad. ‘Voloop (Extnddntwrk Remix)’ was mixed by Alan Moulder and mastered by Morten Nyberg Stendahl. The remixer, Extnddntwrk, is the alter ego of Andrew Fern from Sleaford Mods, and don’t be surprised if we hear more coming out of Nottingham regarding Bingo Crowd.

(By our Norwegian correspondent Jan Ronald Stange) April 25th 2025 Crispin Glover Records will release “Manners”, the long-awaited sophomore album from the Norwegian act Bingo Crowd, formerly known as BC. We’ve known it’s been in the works for years, even wrote about in back in 2016, have heard some demos and snippets along the way, but finally there’s a definitive date set. And: to keep us on our toes drooling, Bingo Crowd will release several singles, B-sides and a remix in the upcoming weeks, starting today with the track “Voloop”.

Bingo Crowd (formerly known as BC) released their debut album “Sinecure” back in 2008. The band have been meticulously assembling the follow up over the last 17 years. Teaming up with legendary producer Alan Moulder (Foo Fighters, U2, The Cure, The Killers, Nine Inch Nails, Beach House, Depeche Mode, Queens of the Stone Age, The Smashing Pumpkins and Wet Leg to name a few..) for the completion of the album that is “Manners”.

The result is ten tracks with an overall sound reminiscent of the early Mute/Factory Records records that we all loved or should have loved. Mixed by Alan Moulder, mastered by @heba_kadry.

About Bingo Crowd (formerly known as BC)

Seventeen years after “Sinecure”, they’re set to release a new album titled “Manners” in April 2025.

The upcoming release will be celebrated with a concert at Parkteatret in Oslo on May 3, 2025.

The American composer, singer, and songwriter Danny Elfman (known from the new wave band Oingo Boingo and for his various film scores) has joined forces with Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor. The result is the duet “True” (out via Epitaph Records) for which you can see the video below.

The video was directed by Aron Johnson and produced by Human Person. Additional video footage was done by Melisa McGregor. As far as the song goes, it was mixed by Alan Moulder including guitars by Danny Elfman, drums by Josh Freese and bass by Stu Brooks. The whole was mastered by Joe LaPorta at Sterling Sound.

Check out the video for the duet “True” below.

Elfman has frequently worked with directors Tim Burton, Sam Raimi, and Gus Van Sant, including the scores for 16 Burton-directed films including “Batman”, “Edward Scissorhands”, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, “Alice in Wonderland”, and “Dumbo”.
As far as his work for Van Sant is concerned he wrote music for “Good Will Hunting” and “Milk”. Other work includes music for all of the “Men in Black” and “Fifty Shades of Grey” franchise films, the songs and score for Henry Selick’s animated musical “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, and the themes for the television series “Desperate Housewives” and “The Simpsons”.

About Oingo Boingo

Oingo Boingo was an American new wave band, formed by songwriter Danny Elfman in 1979. The band emerged from a surrealist musical theatre troupe, The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, that Elfman had led and written material for in the years previous.

Oingo Boingo were known for their experimental music, which can be described as mixing rock, ska, pop, and world music. The band’s body of work spanned 17 years, with various genre and line-up changes. Their best-known songs include “Only a Lad”, “Dead Man’s Party” and “Weird Science”.

As a rock band, Oingo Boingo started as a ska and punk-influenced new wave octet. During the mid-1980s, the band changed line-ups and adopted a more pop oriented style, until a significant genre change to alternative rock in 1994. At that point, the name was shortened to simply Boingo and the keyboardist and horn section were dropped. The band retired after a farewell concert on Halloween 1995, for which they reverted to the name Oingo Boingo and readopted the horn section.

Here are a few songs.

Background/Info: The legendary Swiss formation The Young Gods are back on track, unleashing their first new studio work since “Everybody Knows” (2010). And there’s more news as core member Cesare Pizzi joined hands back with front man Franz Treichler and old servant/drummer Bernard Trontin. Notice by the way the album has been produced in London by Alan Moulder (NIN, Editors…).

Content: Two songs from the 9 have been previously released as singles. “Tear Up The Red Sky” and “Figure Sans Nom” both are heavy industrial-rock pieces with a great and somewhat psychedelic atmosphere supporting the production. The vocals of Franz Treichler still have this charismatic power. Both cuts aren’t fully representative for the entire work as you also will re-discover the more evasive side of The Young Gods. Especially the last part of the album is reverie and psychedelic. There are not as many vocals here.

+ + + : The Young Gods is a band making no compromises, but simply composing the music they like. Whatever it might sound like, you feel the pleasure to compose songs, which are now more industrial-rock minded and then into some psychedelic trip. The guitar and the multiple effects remain efficient and essential to the sound of The Young Gods. This album brings the band alive with style. The album is a bit versatile, but fascinating. The songwriting is sophisticated and the production is pure high-tech. Next to the familiar singles, this album also reveals a few more great songs such as “All My Skin Standing” and “You Gave Me A Name”. Last, but not least the natural, impressive vocals of Franz Treichler are still magic!

– – – : Seven songs aren’t that much for a full length album and I really would have liked to hear more new tracks. Among the tracklist there’s the more experimental-driven “Moon Above”, which is the single song that can’t totally convince me. I think that’s not a reason to complain.

Conclusion: The Young Gods are back and there’s no better way than releasing a diversified, but fascinating opus like this. The band remains a particular experience in sound! For the die-hard fans, the upcoming album can be ordered as a double vinyl set (including a CD).

Best songs: “Figure Sans Nom”, “Tear Up The Red Sky”, “All My Skin Standing”, “You Gave Me A Name”.

Out on March 9th is the new Editors album “Violence”, but before that the band has now released the video for their brand new single “Magazine”.

The single, the band’s first in 3 years, is according to the Editors frontman Tom Smith “a pointed finger aimed at those in power…some corrupt politician or businessman…a character, and a tongue in cheek poke at the empty posturing and playing to the masses of the power hungry.” Hilary Clinton and Trump come to mind of course.

The 9-track “Violence” is the 6th album from Editors, and was produced by Leo Abrahams (Wild Beasts, Florence & The Machine, Frightened Rabbit) and Editors with additional production from Benjamin John Power (Blanck Mass, Fuck Buttons) and mixed by Cenzo Townshend, except “Hallelujah (So Low)” mixed by Alan Moulder.

The “Magazine” video was shot in Amsterdam by long term Editors collaborator Rahi Rezvani.

Chief editor of Side-Line – which basically means I spend my days wading through a relentless flood of press releases from labels, artists, DJs, and zealous correspondents. My job? Strip out the promo nonsense, verify what’s actually real, and decide which stories make the cut and which get tossed into the digital void. Outside the news filter bubble, I’m all in for quality sushi and helping raise funds for Ukraine’s ongoing fight against the modern-day axis of evil.
