Background/Info: I didn’t get a lot of information about this French project unleashing its self-released debut album. The album was released during the last days of 2020 and features thirteen songs.

Content: Not sure this album has been really conceived as lullabies for babies. The songs are rather suited as music for little demons. The tracks are dreamy and even Cinematographic, but you clearly feel there’s a nearby danger, like an evil force progressively emerging. The songs have been composed with some Industrial sound treatments and I also noticed some epic arrangements. The cadence remains pretty slow while some ghost-like vocals can be heard now and then.

+ + + : A Prayer For The Worst is an enigmatic project and I always have something with these kinds of artists. The digipak is pink, but the front-side clearly illustrates a crazy, but bloody ritual while a devil has been illustrated on the back side. This is a perfect work to terrorize a newborn and I like it! It sounds original and especially the mix of influences is worthy of examination. It’s hard to label this band as one specific genre, but I sometimes go the sensation hearing a soundtrack composed by The Virgin Prunes. There’s something inhibited and yet haunting.

– – – : This work is not exactly the most accessible one and not only because it’s hard to define. It has something Experimental and Minimal, which is often liked by a very restricted number of listeners, but I definitely consider myself as belonging to this little group… It’s a pity most of the songs are pretty short;

Conclusion: A Prayer For The Worst is not setting the world alight, but it can be a dangerous experience for the poor little babies exposed to this kind of lullabies.
