Poker really took off in around 2003, and everyone seemed to be playing it all of a sudden. There were two ways to play, and that meant either online live casino or offline. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages, and each one still suits some people more than others. Here are some of the differences between them.

Setting

Clearly the most obvious way in which online and traditional casino poker differ is the setting. At a live poker table you will be sitting with other players and you can interact with them as you need or want to. Online, this is not the case – you can interact, but only via chat options.

This might not seem like a huge difference, but for experienced players it really can be what makes or breaks their poker playing game. When you are in a room with the other players, you can look at their body language, listen to what they’re saying, look for tells, and so on. If you know how to do this, it can help you to decide what to do with your own hand. Without this real life interaction, some players just can’t win at all.

Advantages of Poker In A Brick and Mortar Casino

The main advantage of playing poker in a brick and mortar casino is, as mentioned above, the interaction between players. For some, it is this physically being able to see the other players that makes all the difference.

Another advantage is that many people are much more careful about how they spend their money when they are playing real poker. They can see their money literally disappearing (or being added to!) and this could make them more wary of making dangerous decisions. In online poker, when everything is virtual, this is not the same – you won’t necessarily realise how much you’re spending and this could get you into difficulties in the rest of your life.

Advantages of Online Poker

It’s true that you won’t have the physical tells that some need to play poker well, but there are still going to be some clues as to what your opponents are doing. Plus, think of the number of players you are going to be with; rather than the few tables and players you’ll find at a brick and mortar casino, when you’re playing online there will potentially be thousands of people playing there too.

You’ll also find that there are many more variations of poker to play online, due to the fact that there is unlimited space and many people playing as mentioned above. So if you’re looking for something different, this is where to go. On top of this, many of the games are low stakes, meaning you can start from a penny if you want to.
