Digital Police Scanners - they do a brilliant job when on the road in the USA

Our co-editor and traveling correspondent Elise Din is cruising through the USA lately for her day-time job and visiting clubs allover to see what is hot and not in the industrial music scene. A kind of mystery 'electro' shopper you could say. Not only that, last night she called in to tell us that she got herself an police scanner from the uniden digital scanners assortment. Advised by a friend cop on top. Cool.
In case you wondered what Elise will be using it for, well, as you might know - or not - Elise is working on a library with samples taken from Police and Firemen interventions to be used in electro records. But it's especially the Uniden that seems to do the trick really well. BearcatWarehouse.com was the store where Elise got hers. They offer quite a vast selection of these scanners at quite affordable prices, so she told us last night. Cool, talking of a weird hobby.
For those who are wondering, a scanner is a radio receiver that can automatically tune, or scan, two or more discrete frequencies, stopping when it finds a signal on one of them and then continuing to scan other frequencies when the initial transmission ceases. A police scanner generally refers to a communications receiver that is primarily intended for monitoring VHF and UHF landmobile radio systems, as opposed to, say, a receiver used to monitor international shortwave transmissions.
