Ok, I've been going through some old cassette tapes I made back in the 90s and found some interesting stuff.

If you got the balls, then post your early music here. I'd love to hear what you were doing back in the OLD days (interpret this according to your experience)

Check out my Front Line Assembly rip-off:

I think I had Caustic Grip burned into my soul.

Actually that song doesn't sound bad at all. Which you can't say off the first band i was in.:

We couldn't play our instuments, most "songs" were improvised on the spot, and most wouldn't be longer than 15 seconds, and we recorded it all on a small taperecorder. But we had a shitload of fun, a radiostation played them because they though it to be funny, and this way we gained some notority. In Dutch unfortunately, so if you can;t understand Dutch you won;t be able to make chocolate out of it. Songs there were made in the period 1986-1992.

Thanks for kind remark! I really wanted to be Bill Leeb part 2 back then (just less Canadian and not as tall).

And thanks for sharing your early recordings. It's amazing that we all used to listen to cassette tapes. The hiss makes me nostalgic. Got to love it.

Pretty awful if you ask me. But it's fun to go back and listen.

Wow Daniel, your old vocals really do suck - however I wouldn't mind hearing some more of that old school electro sound in your new stuff.

What old school electro sound? You mean that horrid late 90's sound where everything sounded cheap and so full of arpeggios that it became an un-listenable muddy mess? Is that the sound I should bring back? ;)

'Death is real' is a good song. I agree with you on the overused arpps though. Don't bring the sound back, bring the song back.

Okay, here are most of the early cassette recordings I did with a friend under the band name "Wrack Process" from about 1994 to 1996:

There's just something to be said about being 17 or 18 and having zero money for equipment, but tons of time and inspiration.

    enjoy - or not, LOL.

  9. I just listened to about 14 of the wrack process songs. Not bad, almost inspired in places but the uneven volumes did havoc to my ears. I am an ear fatigue casualty.

Wow - surprised you got that far through it. Sorry 'bout the ear fatigue. ;)

We did everything "live" back then - straight to cassette. We thought that was a more "industrial" approach than songs that were all pre-sequenced and slowly perfected - LOL. There were times when we were experimenting with various cable connections and patches, and volume levels were often adjusted on the fly. Its a shame we never invested in a basic 4-track recorder that would have allowed at least a bit of post-editing.

  11. this is literally one of the first songs i ever recorded, probably the first complete song. pretty horrid, hate whoever got ahold of it and put it on youtube. oh well might as well run with it and put it here too :)

i think i was about 14 when this was done...armed with a cs2x and early version of acid. im pretty sure the vocals were recorded with my pc mic.

@distortedmemory - not bad at all, esp. if you were only 14! :) Almost sounds like something I would have heard on a late 80s EBM/industrial comp, alongside A;Grumh..., Snowy Red, Klinik, etc.

  13. haha, i guess it could be worse. at the time the klinik was one of my favorites so that makes sense..... actually ive been going back and listening to a lot of my old stuff recently, and while the production was fucking horrible because i didn't know what i was doing i did some stuff way more creative than i do now. kind of like young, blind creativity that you only have for a short period in your life. i just recently finished re-doing a new version of a song from my demo cd that im going to put on my third album....i might redo another too, i like the songwriting on some of them. its just the bad recording and cheesy preset sounds i cant stand :)

I did some truly creative things when all I had was a 2-track hardware sequencer. ;)

That's exceptional! Reminds me of older Leaether Strip.

  16. Here we go!! Not the oldest thing I ever did, but the oldest I still have. Did this when I was about 18, so 6 years ago now. Horrible mixing and synth work du jour!

This thread is a fun little walk down memory lane! These tracks are from my first project DrugMurderSexOrgy (DMSO) - I'm actually still fairly proud of these, even though the production/recording sucks. Most of these were done with an Ensoniq ASR-10, MPC 2000, Korg Prophecy, Korg 05RW, and various guitar pedal fx. All these tracks are circa 1997 / 98.

The influences on this track were things like Dive, Alien Sex Fiend, and some EBM:

This is the first remix I ever attempted (in 1997), and I still think it's one of the best things I've ever done (hence why I re-labeled it as a Necrotek remix). It was on 'The Souls That Create' fan tribute to SP (from the members of Epilogue, the SP mailing list). Same track, just different sample treatments:

This is my homage to Depeche Mode. I still think this is a pretty good song:

This is just damn funny, it's my homage to the elektro-disko sound of Thrill Kill Kult. I love the hooker samples! "I was like, kiss my ass you black motherfucker, both of you bitches, poo-putt motherfuckers, can stay together, I don't need none of you motherfuckers, fuck the both y'all, and I walked out bam! and slammed the door":

Oh lord. I'm so old. None of you guys recorded to cassette tape? Mine sounds really dated.

I go back to 1994 but then it gets really wonky! No QUANTIZING.
