  1. We need an X360 thread, too. :)

I'm personally really hooked on this system. And after replacing my launch model with a Jasper (newest revision), I don't have to worry about RROD anymore, and a 120GB harddisk reduces disc drive noise to almost nothing.
With the old Xbox hardly having any interesting games, I've been really pleased with 360, which lifted the heritage from Super Nintendo and PS1 and 2, with a wide range of varied games, a lot of exclusives and some of the most interesting Japanese releases.

    Some of my favourite games:
    Bioshock
    Lost Odyssey
(very underrated IMO - it's classic Final Fantasy when it's best)
    Dead Rising
    Oblivion
    Gears of War 1 & 2
    Prince of Persia
    Street Fighter IV
    Ghostbusters: The Video Game
    Assassin's Creed
    Fable II

And the following are highly recommended on Live Arcade, you should get them all:

Castle Crashers (great Golden Axe clone, but way better than the games that inspired it)
    Shadow Complex (great Metroid clone)
Prince of Persia remake (nice improvement with full respect to the 1989 classic )
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (identical to the PS1 version, but if you don't have it, get it, my favourite game of all time)
Braid (everyone else probably already told you to get this, it's a bit short for the price, but everyone should try it, it's like no other game ever made, and makes you use your brain in ways you never used it before)
Rez HD (HD remake of the Dreamcast/PS2 classic, a GREAT music and art game that probably goes well with psychedelic drugs. If you don't have the original, get this version. If you loved the original, get this as well)
Trials (pretty unique motocross/stunt game running on a strictly 2D axis. Great for comparing scores with your friends - a LOT better than it sounds, try the demo)
Monkey Island SE (THE adventure game classic :))
Bomberman Live (it's Bomberman, on Live!)
Puzzle Quest 1 and 2 (who ever thought combining Bejeweled with RPG type battles and stat building could be so much fun? EXCELLENT game)
Mega Man 9 (only for the hardcore! Classic old school fun)
Bionic Commando Rearmed (another excellent remake, best example of a remade 8 bit game I can think of. A classic)
Pac-Man: Championship Edition (I never enjoyed Pac-Man much, but this version make the classic gameplay action paced and tons of fun)
Ikaruga (another straight port, but one of the best 2D shoot'em ups I've played. Very unique)

Post your Live IDs if you care. Mine is, obviously, "Sumez".

Anxiously awaiting Forza 3, COD4MW2, Fable3, and Dead Rising 2 for this system. I agree that RezHD and Ikaruga are awesome. Also check out I Made A Game With Zombies In It (I'm not going to attempt the actual l33t spelling of this game's name).

I'm still playing the crap outta Fallout 3. Lots of DLCs still coming out.

    @Sumez

Yeah, Trials HD is surprisingly addictive. It's a true gamers game. It's about the best arcade style game i've ever played. I will spend hours just trying to perfect one run. Some tracks are mindnumbingly hard but still fun to play. I've only placed once so far on the pinball skill game. I hate to imagine how long other people play this game in order to do so well at it. It's $15 to download and better than most $50 games.

There's a Fallout 3 game of the year edition coming out next month. I think it contains all the DLC except for mothership zeta. If you haven't bought any DLC yet, it'll be cheaper to rebuy the new game than to buy all the DLC. My wife is downstairs playing fallout 3 as I type this. She plays with her macbook next to her, opened to the fallout 3 wiki, surrounded by printed out maps, being obsessive about doing every single quest in the game.

  5. I love my 360 but I cannot agree that XBOX did not have any great games-and mostly they were exclusive or time exclusive games.

Ninja Gaiden, Fable, Chronicles of Riddick, Splinter Cell & Ghost Recon [were ported for PS2 but were made with XBOX refresh rating in mind.] Doom 3, And the Kingdom Under Fire games. Great stuff..

  7. I love my 360 but I cannot agree that XBOX did not have any great games-and mostly they were exclusive or time exclusive games.

Of course there were great games, I myself have 28 games for the system, including Morrowind, Ninja Gaiden, Conker remake, Fable, Jet Set Radio Future, and Steel Battalion(!!!) - it's just a dwindling low number compared to the PS2's impressive catalogue, and the quality of the top games are generally a lot lower than that of the ones on X360, or even GameCube, and most of them were, like the ones you pointed out, ports of PC games and/or generic FPS games.

X360 is MUCH more diverse and sports a lot more high quality games. Especially XBLA is REALLY shaping up lately. If I had a Japanese 360, I also wouldn't hestitate to buy games like Death Smiles or the "new" Dodonpachi.

  8. I agree with you on those points. I just did not think the XBOX needed to be jettisoned so easily. I still play many of those games over and over again. I am not like most people, enamored by great graphics. I actually enjoy gameplay overall and I still feel older games had more interesting gameplay. PS2 is my first pick on this, I still play a ton of those games.

FYI - The xbox was stopped because Nvidia wouldn't make the GPU anymore, so rather then search for another vendor, MS decided to get a jump ahead of everyone else which was good and bad...

Heh, I feel REALLY old (and I'm quite sure you're older than me) when you talk about playing "old" Xbox and PS2 games, because you don't care about graphics.

I still consider those games very modern, and play them just as often as newer games, or classic 16-bit or even 8-bit games for that matter. I do care about graphics, however, and I don't ever think about what's modern or "retro", I just play the games I like, and I think a lot of 16-bit games are looking gorgeous! PS1-era 3D graphics have a tendency of being hideously ugly, though, and I thought so too back them.
    A good game is timeless.

  11. I'm on XBL as Jairus Khan.

Shadow Complex is amazing, and I'm really enjoying the 2nd playthrough on insane. Aside from that, it's been GoW2 lately for me. Looking forward to playing the Batman game.

  12. Shadow Complex is a really good game, but I wouldn't use the word "amazing", when it mimicks (Super) Metroid so obviously that I'd call it a tribute, while missing some of the things that made Super Metroid the great masterpiece that it is.
I like how they managed to implement some similarly creative sequence break opportunities, but I really wish it would have been a lot less linear, like the games that inspired it. Also, read this awesome article, which touches the subject of the game setting: http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/TylerGlaiel/20090820/2803/Your_environment_is_a_character_too.php

Both Symphony of the Night and Super Metroid can be acquired cheaper than SC on Xbox Live/PSN and Wii Virtual Console - truly amazing games that will make Shadow Complex seem like the retarded cousin.

One thing I don't think Shadow Complex gets enough praise for, though, is the ingenious way it works the 3D axis into it's "2.5D" gameplay. It works perfectly and fluently, and sets a new standard for 2.5D games.

  13. Ikaruga is a badass game and it's great that it was released on Xbox 360. Rez was another great port. And Triggerheart Exelica.

  14. There are still rumors of a Radiant Silvergun remake/re-release for Live. God that would be wonderful.

  15. Shadow Complex is so obviously a Metroid/Castlevania tribute that I hadn't even considered that anyone might think otherwise. (I bought SotN, but have never actually played it through.)

The thing that SC has going for it is that it is a 2.5d Crackdown. By the end of the game you are such a badass that you can walk into any room, blow away a half-dozen guys and stroll out while looking REALLY COOL the entire time.

  16. @Sumez-Whoa man, I did not say old, I said older :P I was weened on the Atari and NES consoles. I agree with what you said though. A good game is timeless.

  17. Shadow Complex is so obviously a Metroid/Castlevania tribute that I hadn't even considered that anyone might think otherwise.

The differently colored "doors" reacting to shots, missiles and "rockets" is kind of a give away, along with the health and ammo packs. :P Obvious tribute, and I love Epic for releasing a game like this, I hope it's the beginning of a trend.

I also wish the game didn't have such a retarded plot. I didn't expect anything good, and it takes a lot to reach Super Metroid's level of crazy deep atmosphere (it gets close at the flooded section, though), but I hate it when games get you embarrassed for even watching the cut-scenes.

I recently got back into hardcore gaming after skipping the last generation of consoles completely. Believe it or not the last game i played was Final Fantasy 7 on ps1 and I didn't even finish it. What made me get back into it was finding out Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe was coming out and about 3 or 4 people boasting about how good games are now, especially on xbox 360. This was last november and I have purchased probaly 15 titles and I don't think any of them have been bad. On 360 my favorites so far have been Dead Rising and Fallout 3. Shadow Complex was pretty amazing too. I do see myself switching to pc gaming for the most part. Now that I am older and have the funds to build a good gaming rig i believe the games and other perks that come along with it is well worth the extra money.
