Ha! Ha! Ha! was left out of Ultravox's discography. Perhaps their finest hour. The only thing lil rudy owns are his fan's wallets. Keep buying, bitches. Those hostess cupcakes are not getting any cheaper.

Wumpscut album April 2011...as regular as clockwork

It seems there are two issues here:
1) Releasing albums every year –which it seems not to be the problem.
2) Developing sound and musical ideas which seems to be the problem.'soillodge' - I disagree with you concerning Ultravox. I don’t think is matters if you are a 3, 4 or just one communicating musical ideas. Yes, agreed it may be easier if you are a band of 2/3/4 to bounce ideas off each other but there are many bands that have one principle songwriter.
I’m certainly not here to defend Rudy but… he can’t win!
Loads of people after he released Boeses Junges Fleisch that said crap not Dried Blood of Gomorrha or Embryodead. Later he releases something akin to that sound and everyone says ‘his not progressed the sound’.
Yes, could be true but maybe his releasing music he likes to make. His a music factory but then the whole pop/X-factor style music industry runs like this.
Maybe he should release a Wumpscut Jazz Album (cool) just to fuck everyone off.
Progression of sound is a strange animal – through better recording techniques, new sounds, new instruments or better composition. Now Muse I would not have said they have progress much since their early days in their song writing, yes better production! To be honest I can’t really see how Muse have become so big as I still maintain ALL of their albums have 3 or 4 good tracks and the rest are rather trash.
In the end Rudy does what he does and some people still buy it.. and there’s your answer –I’m sure he would if no-one purchased his works he may change what he does.

Yeah that's the joy: band releases an album a year, people bitch. Band takes years to release an album, people bitch. Band keeps same sound, people bitch. Band changes sound, people bitch.

...:w: has and takes the chance to make his living by music. he has to release material every year...this scene is small...even for :w:.

I don't think frequency of releases would matter if anything was GOOD. Uwe Schmidt used to shit out a new release every time he had lunch, but no one bitched because all of it was well worth listening to. Take Wumpscut's output over the last 15 years and compile the actual half-decent tracks he's done and you might get an album and a half of quality music.
People wonder why this has happened, and the frequency of his output seems like a pretty obvious culprit. Frankly, if he announced tommorow he was going away for a while, my reaction would be "Good!" Wumpscut isn't the same as a lot of bands people are pining for comebacks for (XMTP, Numb, etc). Those bands were around for maybe a decade and put out 4-5 releases. Wumpscut's been saturating the market for the last 20 years. No one's going to miss him if he takes a few years off.
That said, if you're bitching about Rudy yet still loyally buying every thing he puts out in the hopes that "this is the one where he gets it right again," you really don't have any room to stand on.

This whole argument which comes up every year (and will come up again next April) is simply retarded. Rudy has always come out with albums fairly quickly, he just didn’t announce it beforehand and give a detailed schedule. Don’t believe me? http://www.discogs.com/artist/%3Awumpscut%3A.
1993—MFAST
1994—‘Dried Blood’ + ‘Gomorra’ = DBOG
1995—Bunkertor 7
1997—Embryodead
1999—Boeses Junges Fleisch
2001—Wreath of BarbsThe first 4 albums above are generally considered Rudy’s best, practically coming out an album a year. This was when Rudy was still using hardware, so presumably music and recording took a lot longer then.
No one says you have to like the new stuff, but the criticism of recording time is just silly. Just say you don’t like it. For the record, I think ‘Fuckit’ ranks among Rudy’s very best albums. That album was also recorded on the yearly schedule (in addition to him putting out the BT7 Resample album, which was also extremely awesome).
I think just like all musicians Rudy probably goes thru periods of creativity and periods of stagnation. Also, like many artists who have been around for nearly 20 years some new stuff may not match up to the old material. But there are many people out there who still look forward to the :W: every year, so he must be doing something right. Just because some people don't like it, doesn't mean it sucks. Music is subjective.
Let the artist decide how long to spend recording the album, it’s no one else’s business. Besides, Rudy could spend 5 years on each album and there’s no guarantee it would be any better. Certainly GnR’s ‘Chinese Democracy’ cannot be said to be worth 15 years recording time (although an enjoyable album imho)

from 2001-2004 was actually the biggest gap in his release dates. 2004 being Bone Peeler which was actually somewhat decent
and then
2006
2007
2008
2009
2010
oh and obviously 2011from 06-10 it's pure basement electro plap.

@S80,
Agreed, 'Bonepeeler' was among the best for that timeframe. However, I think 'Fuckit' is much better.

@amiles- "Maybe he should release a Wumpscut Jazz Album (cool) just to fuck everyone off."
I would love to hear that. It would break him out of his cage.
Otherwise we can agree to disagree.

`michael we certainly can agree to disagree. In fact thinking about it maybe a good holiday in a different country would do him good!
Now industrial/jazz!

Send him to the carribean !!! Latino :w: sounds more interesting than Jazz :w:

A lot of people claim that early :W: is better than more recent output, but I don't really agree. Dried Blood of Gomorrha and Bunkertor 7 are the only two :W: releases prior to the yearly releases that I feel are better. I personally like Bone Peeler, Cannibal Anthem, Body Census and Fuckit more than Music for a Slaughtering Tribe, Embryodead and Eevil Young Flesh. And while Evoke, Schadling and Siamese aren't quite as good, I still feel that they're solid albums for the most part.

To me Evoke is the best post Wreath Of Barbs. It's an album that truly deserves to be rediscovered.

Evoke is completely unlistenable for me. I do wish I could like it. I used to be the biggest :W: fan and I use a lot of his ideas in my own work. But in my ears it just went awry. I enjoyed Bone Peeler and Fuckit. Still for me his earlier work was the best. Music for a Slaughtering Tribe and the 2 EP's. I think he went to shit when he moved to LA for that period..lol

This thread made me put in "Dried Blood Of Gomorrha"...damn this stuff was top notch when it came out...how the mighty truly have fallen.

@soillodge
I think he's always lived in LA (Landshut).

I agree with DJ Tek that 'Evoke' is way underrated. I think the album just came out of nowhere and confused a lot of people. Part of the problem also was that "Maiden" was kind of a bizarre song, probably shouldn't have been the opening track.
Generally speaking I think later :W: has become more abstract and illogical. Songs like "Bloodbathing Tub" for example or "Rusty Nails From Hell". The old songs/albums had a limited amount of social/political commentary and much more extensive lyrics. So for whatever reason I think Rudy lost interest in having anything to do with politics or social commentary. Not that :W: was very political, but it seems Rudy completely abandoned a lot of the old themes. To me, that's the main difference.
But I like all eras of :W:, I don't think of it as good or bad, just different. Do we really want all bands to pump out the same album over and over again? For the record I think the worst album to date is 'Schadling', although even that album has its moments.
Posted 1 year ago # -
Yes I could have lived without Schadling.
Evoke also suffers from its ugly ass artwork.
Posted 1 year ago # -
I agree with the theme's changing, his older works had a threatening presence to them, lately he's done kitsch jingles with the title repeated ad nauseum. The thick crunchy atmosphere is gone, instead its ultra-clean overproduced melodies.

I like Evoke, but it almost seems like a :W: side project since it's more darkwave than harsh electro. Also, not only is the artwork ugly (like djtekslave mentioned), but it's not fitting for the music. It's a dark brooding album musically, but has a cheesy CGI monster on the front of it.
