Why does my flatmate never say hello to me?

    Sideliners: I need help.
    I have never met someone who is like her.
    If I want to get a word out of her I have to initiate the 'conversation', which will then last as soon as I don't ask a question or she replies to my statement.

    I don't want her to never say anything, as it's really awkward standing in the kitchen and preparing food at the same time etc.

    I think I'm coming to hate her for never saying anything, yet she talks somewhat with my other flatmate, who is female.

    Any suggestions on what I can do to ease her? I think she is very shy and socially retarded. She watches amine after all. Actually that's all she does, mixed in with a little tv.

    god I love you cult. never ever stop making threads like this.

    To simply not talk to someone when in there presence seems... stunted. Surely its just basic stuff to say "Hey" or "How's it going" to your regular company even if you totally don't care. Having said that, it doesn't sound like she dislikes you, she just lacks the social skills to deal with an acquaintance properly.

    Maybe its cos she likes anime. I dunno. Does she have a boyfriend? How do they interact?

    When I used to live with roommates I was also very quiet and never initiated any conversation. I'd get home from work and go straight to my room.

    After several months they threw a party at the house so I came out of my den and started socializing and they said that they were finally glad that I came out and started talking to them because they thought I hated them since I rarely talked.

    I never initiated any conversation because 1)I was always tired from work and didn't feel like socializing and 2)I was just too apathetic to care.

    But anyway, If you are romantically or just sexually interested in your flatmate, I second Ketracel's advice, it worked for me on a number of occasions.
