I use sideline to find music, that you all bring from elsewhere?

what do you use to find most of it? How many hours do you spend looking for it?

and, when you hear a new album, how long do you play it if it's good?

  3. Lets just say, the days of "omg im on a label, and god damn these music stealing pirates, and grrrr i wish people would buy my cds" days are gone. most the bands i love arent even on a label and release everything for free. art for art

  4. Or they drop their whole LP on Bandcamp for 3 dollars- and they are making more than way than they ever would have signed to a label..lol

I also use Tumblr. You can find people there that post music all the time. Soundcloud as well..

I like specially those russian mp3 sites full of porn pop-ups, russian brides ads and with so much malware that it makes a back-alley hooker seem clean like the virgin mary.

@Cult: it's all about consumption, so I don't know how much actual appreciation there is. Much like treading water it gives the illusion of progress. Shotgunning for the ADD crowd.

pitchfork, tympanik-audio.com, metropolis-music.com, other labels, side-line, "people who bought this album also bought..."... the list goes on...

it all depends on the album... I might buy a really good album, listen to it once, and the next time I listen to it is 3 months later... I might also buy an album and have it on repeat for a week...

Man for a moment there I thought cult said he uses the main side-line website to find new music.

I was about to say, poor guy must know nothing but VNV Nation, A-Ha and Depeche fucking Mode.

People tell me that something worth to listen...next time I´m on a bigger festival etc. with good CD stands I search if they have it - check it...buy it - very easy!
Or people give it as demos to me. 90% is not my taste - so 10% is still a good deal!

I never check for new music on internet - thats just boring for me...if I discover something new it´s that somebody send me a link to good stuff or things like this

...oh I forgot... sometimes when all sources seems dried out, I put stereotypical search words into spotify, like "suicide", "solar", "noise","industrial"... found a couple of bands that way...

  16. My purchases really diversified last year. I seriously branched out. Ultimately Youtube deserves the most credit. You go and listen to a band and the links on the right side come up and you start clicking on those, which lead to others, etc...

Same with iTunes. You go to buy some songs, start clicking on the releases below it and other bands come up and the next thing you know, you're 10 clicks away from where you started listening to something you never heard of before going "where has this stuff been hiding?"

  17. I follow Sacred Bones Records, Crucial Blast, and Southern Lord records...use last.fm, Spotify, and 4chan's /mu/ board for recommendations.

Oh, and I do searches on bandcamp sometimes. (Ohai, gonna plug myself in here: cretindilettante.bandcamp.com

    mostly music gear forums.
also, youtube, last.fm, pandora, fb peeps/friends, still occasionally surprised by opening acts @ live shows.

  19. aside from recomendations from friends and youtube the number one place for me is last.fm.

i almost always look up a band/artist on there when i discover them and check out the top 10 or so similar artists, some of my best finds in the past few years have been like this.

spotify is also great like this, even better actually, because you can instantly listen....but i don't have spotify working anymore because i'm in canada, and the work around can be annoying.
