And why do you like them rather than the others!?

I was honna say Depeche Mode but DM jokes are getting boring.
So, anyway... My top 3 fav bands of all time
1. Laibach
2. Skinny Puppy
3. Front 242In that order...yeah.
I like Laibach for a number of reasons. The main one is how they blend and blurry the lines between politics, philosophy and art. They truly are provocateurs like industrial bands are supposed to be and not many bands can claim that they had a significant role in the process of independence of their own country.
Skinny Puppy because they fully embrace the experimental sound and yet manage to create a signature sound, despite their albums being different from one another. Those soundscapes and textures are a trip man.
Front 242 are masters of rhythm and I think J-L DeMeyer is a great lyricist even in his other side projects such as Cobalt 60.

I agree with dodd's list. in that order.

I keep hearing how even modern Laibach shows are amazing. I think it's funny the only song I hear from them at clubs is Tanz Mit. I love all their 80's to mid 90's stuff.
To me nothing beats Skinny Puppy. Other than the process and their newest album, Ive been in total awe of all their releases.
90-96 Front Line Assembly(well I shouldnt say that, as theres been a few songs from 99, 2001 and 2006ish that I dug)
I just love all those bands that used to put on an awe fearing sort of show. Wish I coulda seen 242 in their prime

mechapop and dodd are totally on point. I would go on about all the reasons I love Haujobb but they aren't quite "oldschool".

Throbbing Gristle and the subsequent projects [COIL, Psychic TV, Chris & Cosey]
Why? Because they were always about ideas and forcing people to think outside of their comfort zones, musically, spiritually, and philosophically. They were never about making a product [though everyone knows they have all sold a bunch of stuff] as much as they were just taking snapshots of their lives in progression. And yes, it was always progressing. You could often get releases chronologically that sounded or had ideas that completed contrasted. I loved how everything was rather surprising and mostly unconventional. They were the reason I ever got into this music.
I am really anxious to hear the last album from them-with some luck it will be released this year.

FLA, no project to me has been as sonsitently futuristic sounding with each subsequent release(futuristic for each album
s respective time it was released in). Utterly brilliant work throughtout Leebs career. Trully in my opinion one of the worlds greatest electronic musicians and programmers. Well deserved of all his praise is Mr Leeb. May his ego never be diminished.Posted 3 months ago # -
Cabaret Voltaire
Einsturzende Neubauten
LaibachAnd Test Department. Though they completely lost it after "The unacceptable face of freedom" when they went all theatre and arty farty. But their debute "Beating the retreat" is still a classic in industrial music.

Silence is sexy!

Silence is sexy doesn't count.

I agree with Soilodge. I like being able to see that progression of ideas, and it's become a part of my own work. Plus, I've never listened to bands whose live albums interested me as much as their studio work.
My personal favorite is Foetus though. Mr. Thirlwell's work just gets better and better with age.

"FLA, no project to me has been as consistently futuristic sounding with each subsequent release(futuristic for each albums respective time it was released in)."
You think FLA *still* sounds futuristic?

Except for that last album, yeah I concur. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was really good, but soundwise it was pretty much current electro EBM and nostalgic metal intonations. They could have done more with it.
Mad props to FLA though. That project really is a band and it is always excited to hear how the pieces work together to form the whole construct.
I am anxious to hear what is on this Plasticity re-release. I just hope it is not a bunch of current scene bands doing shitty club remixes.

Psychic TV
Coil
Front 242PTV because of their Origin of the species series, acid house of this period with an experimental approach is truly enthralling to me.
Coil is Coil, nuff said. I am particularly fond of their work with Boyd rice as well as the album Time Machines. That album enhanced my perception of music one hundredfold.
....Rerun time by front 242... will I ever stop listening to you at least twice a day?...

1. Cabaret Voltaire
2. Throbbing Gristle
3. Nocturnal EmissionsPosted 3 months ago # -
Laibach, Nocturnal Emissions, TG/Coil. All had a consistent worldview which informed their music. The music could change but the concept remained consistent (in a way which wasn't the case for Test Department or SPK, for example).

Blimey, Nocturnal Emissions simulpost. Not often you get to see that in this day and age...

I have never Heard of Noctunal Emissions. Nice name. Could someone please post a few tracks??
Neubauten for me. Nothing comes close to their sound. Organic Industrial.
SPK and Test dept are pretty nice...I only have an album of each tho.
And I actually fogot about laibach...I have to listen to them again :SPosted 3 months ago # -
